42 is heading to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

It passed the moon long ago.

Ha this is the new epitome of crowd manipulation. I have to say I really adore the extent to which these schemes are developed.
While it is not exactly humane to execute such intensive fraud schemes, I am still in awe of the obvious intellect that sits behind these projects.

At the current price of around 1150 BTC there would have to be over 48000 bitcoins invested into 42coin... this thing is going to plummet so hard that it won't take long until we will see the next attempt to squeeze out the pockets of naive investors  Grin

Your math is a bit off. It will be atleast another week before there is 1 whole coin mined.

Also, talk bad all you want but this is real. There is no dumping going to happen.

Your post happens to be one of the first negative posts in this thread.

I have mined a few but the cryptsy listing so soon for such a small community above other new alts smells of manipulated scam. Wtf made cryptsy list this above other new alts??  They said they would never add one that had tons of zeros infront. Hence why the refused the onecoin even though it was far more popular than this. Smells pretty bad to me.

I see people getting burned with this and this kind of stuff is bad for crypto.

Good launch but sneaky tactics from cryptsy. They only do things for profit.... i wonder what their angle is here.

I dont think cryptsy has an angle, but I haven't talked to them directly. I just posted the add 42 to their helpdesk.

I think 42 even broke cryptsy lastnight, it was really screwy.

As for why its at the top of the list. Its in alphabetical order.

It got listed over the other new alts because they were all instamine messes.

205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LECTURE] Why Instamining is BAD and why you shouldn't allow it when you Launch on: January 13, 2014, 07:44:26 AM
this doesn't solve anything

what if miner A have 700kh/s..
and miner B have 5Mh/s

shouldn't miner A be awarded for being an early adopter ?
over time miner B will still get a lot more than miner A... and will dump more (duh)

people without lot of hashrate won't dump something that was so difficult to obtain.. usually

with the low rewards at launch - people with low hashrate are out of the game completely. and the coin will be monopolized by the hashrate monsters

but HELL YEAH anyway for trying to make things fair - but it won't solve anything Smiley

If miner A and miner B both get on at launch. Miner B will cause Miner A to have a ton of orphans. Just the way it works with the blocks being solved so fast.

How many coins have been mined so far?

I wouldnt say even close to one

Exactly 0.3231057 coins have been mined so far.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I'm solo mining for only about 30 minutes and I've found 2 blocks but both were rejected.  Is a high number of rejects normal for solo mining?  This is my first attempt at soloing.

Do you mean orphans?

CGMiner showed:
 [2014-01-12 18:45:34] Found block for pool 0!
 [2014-01-12 18:45:34] Rejected 636fbde6 Diff 169K/92772 BLOCK! GPU 0

I haven't tried the newer cgminers soloming but they used to just show accepted if a block was found. I don't remember rejects. lol

Ofcourse they screwed cgminer up a bit in that I notice when mining on a pool that it shows Found block when in fact you have only submitted an accepted share. lol

Pardon my noobery but... wtf is a Dent ? Grin

1 Satoshi ?

Petition to call 0.00000001(42) a dent (instead of a satoshi), after Arthur Dent.

Why should I mine this coin? If you can give me a god reason I will throw a lot of hashes at it

Because only 42 coins will be mined... 1% premine 99% community opportunity. Fair launch. Lots of value for such little coins. Satoshi validation of btc model.  There is 5 out of 42 reasons why.. Now its your turn to deliver hashes. Go.

Alright. Ill mine it. You tiwsted my arm Tongue.

1 question (for hendo420). Do you think you should add some more units to the wallet? Like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_prefix scroll down to the list of SI prefixes.

I think it would be awesome to add units such as nano, pico and femto to the QT, and would allow us to measure better. It wouldnt take much to implement it into the qt i wouldn't say.

I added Dents which is 0.00000001
There is already u42 which is 0.000001
and m42 which is 0.001

I added Dents to the newest wallet. If you got your wallet at launch please download the new one. You dont have to worry, your balance will still be there when you upgrade wallets.  Cheesy

I partially agree...but HELL YEAH  Grin

While it does lessen the impact of insta-mining, it does not alleviate it enough IMO.  There is still a fair rush on mining as the block reward changes to it's higher level and this creates an "insta-mine" of sorts.  I think having a step-up block reward would be a better option.  Something like this:

Blocks 1-100 = .00001
Blocks 101-200 = .0002
Blocks 201-300 = .004
Blocks 301-400 = .06

But just like you said, depending on your block time and difficulty retarget time and % up/down you will have to modify your coin to hit the sweet spot.

Nobody wants to mine something with an incredibly low block reward only to be shat upon when the real rewards kick in and everybody jumps on it.

There are many ways to go about it but the end goal is the same.  Grin
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LECTURE] Why Instamining is BAD and why you shouldn't allow it when you Launch on: January 12, 2014, 08:09:54 PM
I have been part of many coins release that had no premine and many of them have succeeded,  if you need  alot of premine your already in alot of trouble.

and all that stuff about needing things,  the developer should just mine like everyone else and use that for giveaways, that way no one can confuse their motivations.

j

Wanna guess how much Aliencoin I have mined since launch?

40.0087 total

Its a good thing I'm not the one running the giveaways. Its a good thing the guy running Aliencoin has a small premine for giveaway/bountys because he tells me he hasn't mined any yet. So I guess I'm lucky  Grin
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [LECTURE] Why Instamining is BAD and why you shouldn't allow it when you Launch on: January 12, 2014, 07:50:31 PM
Instamining(defined by me because its not in the dictionary): Launching a coin at low difficulty with the normal block reward and having a weeks worth of blocks mined in 20 minutes leaving only a few lucky miners with a ton of coins while the rest are left with a high difficulty and low amount of coins.

This happens with nearly every new coin launch and it must STOP.

Here is what normally happens.

A new coin launches called Fcoin.

Miner A has 5mh/s and starts mining Fcoin at launch. It is an instamine. He makes 500,000 coins at a difficulty of 0.002 or less in the span of about 10 minutes. Miner B has 5mh/s and likes the new Fcoin but is finding out about it 30 minutes after launch. He gets on and mines for the next 3 days and mines only 5,000 coins.

All of the Miner B's push Fcoin to an exchange because they think it has promise and that other people will want to buy it.

When it gets to the exchange it gets some cryptocoin buyers attention and they put up multiple Bitcoin buy orders. Some as high as 0.0001btc per coin.

Miner A is a pro and he watches the exchanges like a hawk so of course he notices the minute it goes to an exchange. He then waits until those big buy orders are set up. Then he Dumps all 500,000 Fcoins on the exchange dropping the price to a fraction of what it was.

Miner B misses the boat and feels screwed.

I have seen this same situation happen on atleast 100 coins.

Instamining hurts a coins long term potential and hurts its short term value as well.

The way it should be done.

Depending on your block time and difficulty retarget time and % up/down you will have to modify your coin to hit the sweet spot.

Make the first so many coins a minimal block reward, something like 0.0001

This means that the network has time to reach its optimum block time before any blocks pay out and the 0.0001 allows miners to know that they are set up correctly to mine and the pools are working.

This is done by going to the main.cpp file and adding a few lines.
Code:
	if (nHeight < 1000)
{
nSubsidy = 0.0001 * COIN;
}
In context
Code:

static const int64 nDiffChangeTarget = 600000;

int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
    int64 nSubsidy = 40 * COIN;
if (nHeight < 1000)
{
nSubsidy = 0.0001 * COIN;
}

    // Subsidy is cut in half every 1051200 blocks, which will occur approximately every 1 year
    nSubsidy >>= (nHeight / 1051200);

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

If every coin that launched followed this procedure I believe that we would not see as many coins becoming just pump&dump right out of the gate.

If you agree with me can I get a HELL YEAH?

thats not it. this coin was straight out of coingen.io . its was open source. and open wallet. yup, open wallet. other people started mining this from yesterday

rolf stop deleting this post OP

I dont know if he actually deleted it or not. lol

but it was not a coingen.io created coin. Check the debug window. coingen.io doesnt fork worldcoin. lol

Does anyone know what is happening with happyminers.net pool. Lots of rejects. I restarted cgminer and now all accepted... but the Est. shares is at: 3517 (done: 11621.24%). And Time Since Last Block: 4 hours 42 minutes 52 seconds.

Arghhh 4 hours without mining... Shocked

take a look at pool hasharte (3.35 MH/s ATM) - only several ppl are minig there. it explains Est. shares,

but I'm wondering myself what is the reason of happyminers troubles. I've been minig with them for two days

Thanks, but that I know, that is why I posted the "11621.24%". Being that one of the reasons so few people are mining  at the moment... and the rejects. Also,, its been over 5 hours... When I notice this issue, I had more rejects than accepts, lol. Never had a problem with this pool.

Also, I tried to cash out and got my coins, it took longer than usual but got it.

Update 1: It seems something changed at the pool. It now updated the blocks and it says 2 hours since last block...

Update 2 : Error message - Unable to connect to wallet RPC service: Connect error: Connection refused (111). It seems that they are trying to fix it.

There are 2 other pools. You might try one of them if you are having difficulty's.

The Developing team has made a major flaw. The coin was pre-mined 100% on mistake on the first block instead of 1%. The coin will either be destroyed and re-launched or a third party trusted member will need to receive the 99% of the coins that was pre-mined and then destroy the wallet/private key.

I'm pushing for a restart. We can still do this right. 2 or 3 changes and this coin could be perfect.
It would take a couple hours to do the changes and generate the genesis hash and we would be good to go again.

Just for the record, the 200m thing was not all me. I didn't even get to mine the first block.

Ok, so when? I am willing to give this a second chance, but that has to be now or never...

Well I'll join only if the 1% premine goes to Hendo, noone else.

I like his idea. ^^

has anything happened to the network? Diff is changing from 50 to 160 back and forth.. do we have a fork??  Huh

Difficulty will change alot. It has never been as high as 50 or 160 tho. I think it reached 8 or 9 at launch.

Difficulty changes every 7 minutes.

42 is not forked.
