61  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: September 02, 2013, 12:19:19 PM
*before* i attempt this, just wondering if anyone has ever tried it yet:

armory within vmware

virtual machine set to '12gb RAM' but host pc only physically has 2gb

...of course in the end the experiment/discussion will become moot if newer versions of armory use less ram

time for a bump to add bitmessage to the list. what a great little program

Uh. The OP is the author of Bitmessage Wink

wow coincidence, didn't even know that

so he finds out about bitcoin, then discovers all this other cool technology he didn't know about, and then invents bitmessage

nice one

Additional layers of encryption inside this full disk one are pointless, it degrades convenience and performance with no real additional security.

well duh, but like you know, i never said anything about 'additional', because i don't do WDE.

i always wonder why people do large buys.

maybe from the buyer's perspective, it was a small buy, because maybe they don't want to spend their 15 million all at once

For the web developer: There is a bug that's preventing Delete (X) to work under "My inbox" on the home page. When the button is clicked, the server is returning "Sorry! For security reasons you're unable to use the Back, Forward and Refresh buttons in your browser." instead of whatever JSON response the Delete button is expecting, hence the item doesn't get deleted.

their reponse (my emphasis)...

Dear Ian,

My name is Alyssa and I am your Online Specialist for today. Thank you for your email enquiry regarding deleting your inbox messages.

Ian, I am sincerely sorry to hear that you are experiencing technical issues when attempting to access our NetBank Website to delete these messages.

I have contacted the NetBank Technical Team on your behalf and they have confirmed with me currently there are no known issues.

However in saying this, they have advised me NetBank often requires using a troubleshooting technique in order to best find a resolution to the technical issue you are experiencing.

What I can suggest for you to do is to first, reboot your modem and clear the cookies, cache and temporary internet files on your browser.

A guide on how you can do this on the most commonly used browsers can be found here: askcba1.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1057

Also I kindly ask for you to login directly to NetBank either via Commbank.com.au or netbank.com.au. Please do not use your Favourites or Bookmarks to access NetBank.

Please also complete an optimisation check on your computer to ensure that your operating system and the browser are compatible with NetBank:

my.commbank.com.au/NetBank/UserCompatibility/SystemCompatibilityAdvisor.aspx

If you continue to experience technical difficulties, please contact the NetBank Helpdesk directly at your earliest convenience on 13 2221, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where a specialist will then complete trouble shooting with you to improve your NetBank experience.

Although I may not have been able to assist you, I do hope the above information I have provided you will assist you to resolve your enquiry. If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to reply to my email.

I have lodged your feedback and dissatisfaction under reference CF-xxxxxxxx. Please note that no further action will be taken, this is for reference purposes only.

It has been a pleasure assisting you Ian and I wish you all the very best with your future endeavours.

Sincerely,

Alyssa

so i typed up a reply...

Hi Alyssa,

You say there are "no known issues" but I'm trying to make this issue known Smiley

It has nothing to do with cookies or cache - My primary browser is Chrome, however I just opened a completely fresh instance of Firefox, which I've never opened Netbank in before, and it has the same problem.

It's also not a router/modem issue, as this affects both home and work accounts and everywhere else I've used Netbank over the past 12 months.

If you can forward this to technical staff, they may reproduce the issue by using  Chrome's Document Inspector, and specifically the "Network" tab. Open the network tab while on the Netbank home page, and click Delete (X), there will be two connections made to Netbank's servers, returning the "Sorry! For security reasons..." page, instead of whatever response the "Delete (X)" link is supposed to connect to.

As a web dev, I would expect the server to return some kind of JSON response or equivalent.

Thanks,
Ian

...but their reply system is bung and always results in...

Sorry!

The page you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable.

Please try again later.

so i can't even submit bugs properly because their contact system is buggy

tl;dr version:

me: you have a bug
cba: no we don't
me: yes you do, here's how to reproduce it
cba: talk to the hand

67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Could You Use "Sandboxie" To Run Your Client? on: August 28, 2013, 02:11:45 AM
For isolation of dangerous processes full virtualization like VMware Workstation is required. And virtualization will not protect secrets in event when host operating system is compromised by malware.

and keep all your vmware or virtualbox images inside truecrypt containers
68  Other / Off-topic / Re: Claim your Bitcoin Rank of Nobility on: August 27, 2013, 09:48:49 PM
someone should make a site for this, where you can fill in the amount of coins you have Smiley

bitcoinnobility.com Smiley

yes and forward IP addresses to the ATO / IRS
69  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Escrow list on: August 27, 2013, 09:41:03 PM
I've been looking for a reputable escrow service and nothing - John K is away, Great didn't reply to my PM and is going away too, theymos doesn't reply too.

Can you recommend someone, who I can trust?

Thank you.

mc_lovin purchased 'thrucoin.com', presumably to continue running it... i'd pm him
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: getreceivedbyaddress JSON on: August 27, 2013, 09:39:08 PM
Does getreceivedaddress count the change received from outgoing transactions?

yes, if the change is going back to the same address. change amounts are no different to other inputs in that respect. normally though, change will go to a newly generated 'change' address each time.

71  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Withdrawing BTC from MTgox 'Invalid bitcoin address, please confirm your input' on: August 27, 2013, 05:21:48 AM
still an issue on aug 27... can't even withdraw 0.4 btc :/
72  Economy / Speculation / Re: Date for 12.5 BTC per Block - autmn 2015 on: August 26, 2013, 05:03:42 AM

example: right now it says

Reward-Drop ETA: 2016-10-20 19:35:08 UTC (165 weeks, 8 hours, 40 minutes)

...let's see what it says in a few weeks Cheesy

well look at that, it's already crept ahead by 19 hours over just the last 3.5 days Shocked

Reward-Drop ETA: 2016-10-20 00:50:45 UTC (164 weeks, 2 days, 23 hours, 50 minutes)
73  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory no worky... on: August 22, 2013, 04:15:38 PM
12GB here and *sometimes* it crashes

usually depending on how many million chrome tabs i have open and how many months it's been since i rebooted windows
74  Economy / Speculation / Re: Date for 12.5 BTC per Block - autmn 2015 on: August 22, 2013, 04:11:58 PM

this estimate doesn't take gradually rising network speed into account

if network speed keeps increasing, then the real reward-drop date will creep further and further forward, compared to that estimate

(as you can usually see if you keep checking bitcoin clock's estimate over a few weeks)

example: right now it says

Quote
Reward-Drop ETA: 2016-10-20 19:35:08 UTC (165 weeks, 8 hours, 40 minutes)

...let's see what it says in a few weeks Cheesy

This is true, but I'd say its the closest estimate you can get.  I do not think 2015 will be the next block rewarding, that would be way ahead of schedule.  How long do you believe ASICs will keep folding over the hashrate 100%/month?

well, just going by the experience of seeing the clock's first reward-drop prediction (early december 2012) creep ahead by about 2 months in the time that i watched it, my personal guess for the next one is may 2016

edit: wow i just noticed birdy predicted the same Cheesy

Thanks, and let me know what you think!

i think you should put a link to your site in the OP
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Micro Jobs - Fivecoinn on: August 20, 2013, 09:26:14 AM
so it's basically a fiverr clone. correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there one already?

'forbitcoin.com' looks like it was abandoned long ago
78  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Network synchronization - future problem? on: August 20, 2013, 05:27:22 AM
this could piss some people off that need to do urgent transactions but don't have a pre-synched account handy.

tx urgent? import a private key into your blockchain.info wallet
i'm sure there'd be other solutions too
79  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Did difficulty go up a couple of days ago? on: August 16, 2013, 02:56:31 PM
Why is it now estimated to go back down?

who is estimating that? i think vlad and cyberdyne are joking around, next difficulty estimate is sitting on 53-55m according to bitcoindifficulty.com and bitcoincharts.com

80  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FirstBits.com - remember and share Bitcoin addresses on: August 16, 2013, 02:47:26 PM
Shortening a hash, especially a Bitcoin address is just asking for trouble

it's more like a 'shortcut'

just like we don't type c:\program files\bitcoin\bitcoin.exe -datadir=g:\data  every time we want to run bitcoin, we just use a shortcut that knows where to find it
