645  Other / Off-topic / Re: There are films. And then there are films. on: September 22, 2012, 11:12:51 PM
At the risk of going OT, I get tired of people saying that the book was better. I doubt that any average Joe has a better imagination than the great directors, DPs, lighting, makeup, talent, etc. Their cumulative efforts are often quite astounding. Sometimes it seems they compress the information of a thousand words into 24 fps.

Actually, here's my take on it. Let's say a film is coming out, and it's based on a much loved book. The following scenarios, among others, present themselves:

1. You haven't read the book, and you're looking forward to seeing the movie. In such a case, watch the movie first, and then read the book if you so wish.

2. You have read the book, loved it, and now you want to see the movie. The movie might disappoint, because you have your expectations of what should be in the movie, and how the characters are. Film is a different medium. It cannot, nor should it, try and be exactly like the book.

I never read the Dragon Tattoo books, but I hear they're good. Instead, I decided I just wanted to enjoy the movies. Nor have I seen the Swedish versions. So I watched Fincher's version with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. My view of the film is not tainted by the books or the Swedish films. And I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

there are many restricting factors.

i've read a book called jurassic park, and if someone somewhere in 1991 had decided to make that into a movie, it would probably have been 8 hours long and rated R.

3. You must reply to this threat when you deposit.

most people don't respond well to threats.

stephen, can you let me know which of your domains are still available and if you're still interested in selling, or link me to a more recent list, etc?

um, now that that's out of the way, i thought in this case the term "dead man's switch" would have applied to the owner of the wallet service dying.

i think the best idea would be to give half a password to your lawyer (without telling him what it is), and half to your beneficiaries.

Payb.tc, I for one, wouldn't mind throwing a few BTC your way to put something together where only the people who elect to give Pirate their information gets passed on.  It would have to be contingent on a few things though.  If Pirate paid only those accounts, only those accounts would be paid out and the people that chose to not give information would have to wait until further action is taken and their BTC are refunded.  There would also need other people to throw BTC in.

The other thing we could do is put together a list and have you sign off on it as accurate and we can forward it on to Pirate.  I know this was done before but I'm not sure it was ever verified by you before it was forwarded.

Also, given the fact that BitcoinMax's userbase is so large, I would imagine if everyone threw in a little there would surely be enough to get a lawyer involved and pay for payb.tc's time.

I can state with 100% acuracy that it was not signed off by payb.tc.

I highly doubt it would help but if paybtc wants access to the list I will give it to him, as stated in my orig thread.

payb.tc:
how much btc would you need to check this list, sign it and pass it to pirate?

BrightAnarchist is collecting this information to give to lawyers and maybe LEA. If you would like please pass it on top him. We are trying to collect coin back.

yes, got PM from him, will reply soon.
653  Economy / Auctions / Advertise on BitcoinClock.com for 30 days - Round #2 on: September 14, 2012, 05:41:13 AM
congrats again to Cory for winning the first auction.

this auction is for 30 days' worth of ad space on http://bitcoinclock.com
starting from 2012-10-12 03:00 UTC and ending at 2012-11-11 03:00 UTC.

ad space is suitable for a regular 468x60 banner, where it currently says "Cory was here."

the site now gets 250-300 visitors a day, but i expect this to ramp up significantly over the next ~76 days as we approach the reward drop.

starting bid: 0.2 BTC
minimum bid increment: 0.01 BTC
auction ends: 2012-10-11 03:00 UTC

thanks!

655  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer Tags- Pirate Pass Through operators ? on: September 13, 2012, 02:45:13 PM
but want him to see to try to get some money back from pirate - which he refuses (except we pay him)

i don't have much choice in the matter... i'll do what i can, but i have to pay the bills, ya know? that likely means focusing on something else totally unrelated to bitcoin.
656  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer Tags- Pirate Pass Through operators ? on: September 13, 2012, 12:45:23 PM
And paybtc had no right to deprive me of the opportunity to negotiate or whatever directly with pirate.  That's why he deserves a scammer tag.

i have the right to get paid for my time.

those of you demanding i do something have never actually offered any kind of compensation, they just make demands of me like i'm some kind of charity.

go negotiate with pirate if you want to.

if you want me to do it on your behalf, make me an offer or STFU.

Charity?
you passed an estimated 110000 BTC to pirate. Your cut was 0.1% or ~$1,200 per week. Not too bad for such a basic website, most people dont earn that much from a full time job. And that is assuming you did indeed pass the money through to Pirate, I would like to see some transaction IDs to validate that claim because for all I know, you knew exactly what was going on and pocketed a portion or all of those coins yourself. which would give you a very good reason not to want to give pirate your customer list.

my 'cut' was non-existent pirate money. i'm not sure how many more times i need to say that before people get it.

i wish i actually cashed out $1200 a week.

Don't you have already been paid with a cut of your pass through? Or that was a payment just for you to pass BTC to Pirate but not for getting them back?

Anyway I offer 10% of my Bitcoinmax deposit if you find the way to get my BTC back -or 10% of whatever fraction of it you get.
How about it?

unfortunately no, i haven't been 'paid'. not with anything that can pay the mortgage anyway.

same goes for a % cut of your bitcoinmax account sorry... i have to put food on the table, so my time available for chasing magical pirate money is very limited.
658  Economy / Speculation / Re: another hype before halving or not ? on: September 13, 2012, 05:40:17 AM
during the 50-25 changeover, i expect to see the price go to at least $16.81 temporarily.

What? not $16.82?

that's crazy-talk, it couldn't possibly get that high.
