I just updated the Mini 3 to the newest fw (from June 2025) and it has some improvements,
including a web browser GUI!

Canaan, you should maybe more promote the FW updates for these Home series gear.

which FW is it?

Wow you bomb me both here and via pm... Cheesy

I'll just paste what I said in pm.....

Hi!

https://www.canaan.io/support/file_download
Firmware Avalon Mini3 Release 2025061801

It does, since it has the web browser GUI.
But functions there are limited and sadly it doesnt have all same things than the android app.
The android app also works with this new fw, so I recommend you to try the update

For the model name, do you guys know where the "XP" comes from..?
I'm curious. Cheesy

I wonder if it is maybe "extra picked" or something -- in another words a model for which the best extra good quality chips have been picked for.
Or maybe it is "extra performance"...

Perhaps, extra pricey?!  Grin
That's a good one, thanks. Cheesy

The Avalon Mini 3 is what I have currently as a home miner, and so far it is running quite ok (knock the wood).
Small down sides are annoying "rattle noise" from the heat output protection steel net in "Mining"-mode and the lack web GUI (you can only meddle it with the android phone app "Avalon Family").

I hope the hardware lasts a little better than in Antminer R4 I had in the past. They had few hashboards going broken.

I think Avalon has it best currently in 1kW ish range.
For other home miner sizes GekkoScience are known to be good and handy.

Hello everyone, I set up a proxy and my ping is 70. I want to see if there are any special settings I can make for the WhatsMiner device to get better results? Sad Sad

It's all about your network setup and why would you add such proxy in your setup? Of course it brings more to latency.

In Whatsminer settings there ain't things you can do to make latency better.

@pigfarmer
Do you see the Mini 3 in your local area network if you look at your router's web user interface?

^
Wow, that is really unfortunate. Sad
I wish the best for him recovering from the fire.

Reading this and other stories in the past, I feel very fortunate that during the most active part of my mining "career", I only had one serious close-call incident. The psu which I got originally with BW-L21 miner was a bad quality one with shitty dc side wiring, and I woke up in the middle of the night to my smoke detector alarm when the wiring failed.

And remember the basic rule. If something seems too good to be true,  then it probably is not true.

See this reply I gave to a guy who also had a1246 problem.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The most profitable crypto/software to mine with a gaming pc on: January 10, 2025, 03:40:14 PM
You are asking about altcoins, since with PC it makes no sense to mine btc. Btc mining nowadays is only carried out with ASICs.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Canaan Avalon mini 3 & nano 3S [unofficial thread] on: January 09, 2025, 05:18:43 PM
I grabbed one of these (the Mini 3)! It was from a distributor which was listed at Canaan.io (Mineshop).

I see this one as a very interesting continuation in 800-1000 W power area home miner. Previous very common one in these was Antminer R4, and a lot of time has passed after that.

I plan to use my one for a solo 'lottery' mining.

I may even do a write-up for this,  which I haven't done in a long time. Smiley

15  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon A1246 Repair Manual on: December 18, 2024, 12:06:54 AM
Hi there,
you can check my rather old Avalon troubleshooting guide if it helps a little with the Cgminer API log codes (link is in my signature).

Also found this info about Avalon 10 series.
After the 10 series it seems that they have stopped updating their public git at the Github.

edit:
I also found the Avalon 1246 manual at Zeusbtc. They have archived lots of documentation which can be useful.

Please take things like this with a grain of salt, and very carefully.

Based on what I've seen here, doesn't give me reliable feeling yet.
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ordered a s21xp today. Problem arose! and fixed! on: December 11, 2024, 04:43:18 PM
Phil, I came from my 'hiatus' to say that I noticed via a LinkedIn post that Bitmain is going to manufacture the S21 in the US. Any thoughts on that?  Smiley

You can use your PC only for mining some altcoins. Not BTC.

20  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 1246 PSU CABLE WARMS UP on: August 08, 2024, 06:57:18 AM
I found few C19 -> Type F 3x2.5mm2 cable options (presuming that you live in an area in Europe where you want Type F plug).
They are a bit special and only crypto mining operators use them.
For "regular" server guys, the 1.5mm2 cores are usually enough.
