1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Magi |1st PoS-II | 1st PoM | Fair Distr | M7M CPU only [Tor wallet] on: November 01, 2014, 04:56:38 AM
That's the point. We are still lack of sufficient promotions of XMG

The question is: What makes XMG unique? What's the value, the unique feature that makes it better than other coins? We mostly spoke about the CPU mineable thing. That's cool for miners, but we need to explain the non-mining people, why they should invest in XMG, how we will increase the value.

Do you have a list or graphic for that? I'm gonna do some research, finding blogs, websites that might want to write about XMG.

Additionally I'm doing some research and brainstorming finding more promo ideas. Already have some ideas in my mind but not a finished concept.
We still should know who in this community can help developing tools, features, ads (programming skills, no matter what language; doing graphics, videos).

Also, like I suggested before, you might want to think about increasing the PoS rate.

- At Bter I can deposit my coins and get (only for some coins) a daily interest payment https://bter.com/myaccount/interest
- I mentioned a thread at bitcointalk called High Pos Journal. They are not interested in XMG due to too low %

1022  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Magi |1st PoS-II | 1st PoM | Fair Distr | M7M CPU only [Tor wallet] on: November 01, 2014, 04:41:42 AM
That's the point. We are still lack of sufficient promotions of XMG and XMG is yet to have "big" exchange, which are quite critical to get the coin and miners a hype. Despite this, the multipool will be a good start for people who want to get XMG by mining scrypt/x11 coins.

I agree but let me point out another point of view:

When listed on a big exchange like Cryptsy or Bittrex, people (miners, traders, investors) are making pressure on the DEV. Cause price will only increase when new features are on the way. So there will be a lot of pressure on you. With the current situation, you have more time. There's a still lot to do, website, spreading the hash (currently PoS has 66% of all blocks, Nonce-pool 28% and suprnova only 6%) and much more.

XMG has a steady value of 2000-3000, that's more than many other new coins have. Not bad for a new coin in the "early days". Lemurcoin for example has 10x the value but there will only be 100k coins in total, so not to compare.

With giveaways, a multipool and more pointing out the CPU mineable fact, we will attract more people, making them interested in finding out more about Magi, staking their coins or exchanging them which leads to more volume.

The problem with the China market is there are so many coins that people won't trust any incoming coins. Based on what happened to the subforum, XMG may get an opportunity, while we'll need sort of good promotion strategy.

Like I said, a representative/advertiser for the chinese market, who knows this market, would be awesome. Let's add this to the to-do-list.

btw, I only have currently around 400 XMG (so I'm not one of the top coin holders, just a simple miner) but I'm willing to help making XMG a great and valueable coin. That explains my commitment  Smiley

I don't understand everything, but it's interesting

http://cointelegraph.com/news/112782/blocknet-is-like-the-mega-man-of-altcoins

Is that something that might be interesting for XMG (I like the ATM feature)?

I heard blocknet is a scam ... so popular things are sort of making people additions to that, get things boring, and comes with scams too likely. I would say
Code:
rm -rf *net
Grin

Oh come on Joe, linux noob here. Just had to google what this command means  Tongue

Ok, in this case let's develop our own ideas and features ^^

Do you know if there are any active XMG community members from china?

Not sure active members here, but we have connections with them (thanks to 111magic). The ANN thread was going well in the Chinese subforum:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763187.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=786053.0

Recently we had posts in http://8btc.com/, and the giveaway goes nice:
http://8btc.com/thread-10795-1-1.html
http://8btc.com/thread-7626-1-1.html

I am not sure other ideas to further boost promotions, any ideas?

I recently read that China plays an important role in the crypto worls. So there must be dedicated chinese mining pools. chinese miners probably prefer them more. It's just a thing to find that out and find a "representative"/pool operator for that audience.

That will be nice. The problem with pools is the high rate of DDOS attack that is the most concern.

Currently exchanges are being attacked regularly, btw.

Yes, as far as I know Coinking is DDoS protected but that could be discussed.

I have just the ideas, you are the one who decides which way to go  Smiley

I will drop him a message and see how this is going; running pool more or less get my vps server/vendor complaining about that.
Edit, is this pool a reasonably good one, since the thread was opened in August, but only few posts there; also can't see any complaints since thread is self-moderated.

I found it when looking for a EXCL pool. Don't know more about it but will keep my eyes open.

Just had another idea, probably even better. Coinking.io is a well known multipool and provides payouts in different coins (they usually exchange all 6 hours). Maybe talk to them if they would add XMG as payout option. This way you have no additional work.
1028  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Magi |1st PoS-II | 1st PoM | Fair Distr | M7M CPU only [Tor wallet] on: November 01, 2014, 03:10:21 AM

Ok. In case he won't do, there's a great pool software that soon launches a multipool feature. Don't know what server specs are required but I can find out (don't think a huge box will be needed for some Scrypt and probably some SHA256 coins).

This is an awesome multi-function website which I demonstrated to the King already since OC has one from there, problem is it's expensive last I knew. I was not the person who got OC signed up. Do you know how much, offhand? Someone would have to contact the site if you don't know.

Quote from the site:

What is required to host an Explorer here?

We require a client wallet with a Bitcoin-compatible RPC API, that can be compiled from source code (preferably on github or similar) and that will run under Debian 7

We also currently ask for a contribution to hosting costs equivalent to $120 in BTC per year for young/short blockchains, and $150 for older/larger blockchains.
Hosting contracts are on a yearly basis as we do not have time/will to bug people about late payments. The yearly contract also allows to amortize costs (early on most costs come from explorer setup, later on they come from CPU/RAM/Storage costs)

One thought about your "spare" hosting capacity - a repository for XMG software resources in one place might look more professional than the various places we have atm. I use Dropbox for my distributions, but would prefer to have them hosted on a "named" place for kudos.

I agree. Your website http://cryptomagic.com already contains a "get started" section. Or create a new menu "mining" and next to tutorials put the tools there.

Right, having these will be nice, especially the multipool. I have faucet.cryptomagic.com working before, I might bring it up sometime; btw is this one http://multipool.bit.diamonds/ same as the one you posted?

Other provider but same concept.

The provider I mentioned hosts all multipools at http://thepool.pw/

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=733216.0

Edit: One time fee in 0.75 BTC, not 2 BTC like I stated
1032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ZeusMiner] GEN III MINER-VOLCANO Pre-order Now!! on: November 01, 2014, 02:50:25 AM
That really sucks. Was looking forward to the blades to upgrade my blizzards.

But watching the market it seems to be more profitable for the companies providing a cloud mining service, paying mining reward in BTC and charging maintenance fees in USD with the option to adapt if BTC price should go against them.

Pmsl. Priceless! I still don't get it though. People donate coins ... so I can just grab them and walk away Huh What do I have to do to deserve that? So will I be donating any coins? Absolutely not! To me this sounds as pointless as "proof of burn". I must be missing something somewhere ... Maybe I should smoke something green and it might begin to make sense Cheesy
This is wow:
http://faucet.xeno-genesis.com/

Side effects: get traffic on their site like the above one; I would keep clicking the faucet  Cheesy

Looks simple but good. Not messed with a lot of ads.

btw, do you have some free ressources on your Magi webserver in order to create services like Faucet, Multipool and so on there.

Yes, my servers can host many stuffs if you like, and any domains available upon your request, hosted in either my server or domain vendor, Smiley any ideas along that?

At present 3rd party services are ok. But with the time, we should do that "on our own" instead of trusting other people.

There's a provider for multipools (mine other coins, get paid in i.e. XMG). But he charges afaik 2 BTC one time and the 2% pool fee.
Example: http://thepool.pw/EXCL/

Tools like multipool, faucet, block explorer, classifieds/market and so on could be added to the main site as a subdomain
faucet.cryptomagic.com, ...
1034  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: LTC Pools on: November 01, 2014, 02:31:47 AM
You'll get problems with LTC, too. Regarding heat and electricity, it would be better to mine an algo like X11 than Scrypt.

Check out those pools (Multipools with profit switching)

Guys, need a slogan for XMG. Coin Magi - last land of CPU mining? ... Cheesy

Magi - turns CPU power into Coins

Magi - CPU mining 2.0 (or 3.0?)

Magi - the ASIC resistant CPU mining Coin

I'm missing a 2 cents icon ^^

Currently only 3 donations. Come on community, give some coins (even if it's only 1 per member).

I had a look at this and am struggling to see the point of it. Would someone please explain it to me? Preferably in words of one syllable so I can understand. I'm getting old yeah Cheesy

You mean the sense of a faucet?

Yes ... please. I'm English and I know that a faucet is the US word for what I know as a tap which you turn anti-clockwise to get water out of it. Beyond that I am rather confused. It might be something to do with my age and inexperience Cheesy

I'm german and had to google what the words means Grin

Enter your wallet address and get some coins for free. Kind of distributing coins to become more popular. Visitors who get some free XMG will search for information about the coins, places where to spend them or exchange them to BTC,...
