201  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 6? Any owners out there? on: November 07, 2015, 03:02:49 AM
I just noticed a few sites are starting to sell these like the one below.  Just wondering if any bitcointalkers have anything in their hands to review?

TIA

http://www.mybtcpool.com/product/avalon6-3-65ths/

$1650??? too high....  Undecided

I think it was like 1300 originally but blockc is now 1500 I believe on buying one.  So if they are selling at that rate that is pretty fair on re seller.

But I have never bought from that site.  So I can't say how good/ or not good it is.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your opinion? Are you getting one as soon as possible or are you waiting for reviews from others, or not even on your radar at the moment?
Seeing you pictures and hearing the description of your farm, you probably have to consider how much you reinvest back in the farm, and when. Obviously the S5+ purchase had to be quick, but as such looks like it has turned out to be a fantastic investment for you. I think that was a right time right place scenario. Regardless of those situations where you must decide quickly, do you mind sharing how and when you are determining to replace more miners, or if you have a set financial amount you reinvest in some fashion?

I think some of these types of things may be items some people won't share, but I also think there are others who will share the way they may handle something without discussing a specific dollar amount. The experience from being involved in something many others, many who are new, look to see what they are doing.

Touching one last time on that topic I think little things like that we can work together somehow and share more details with each other to make a "Plan B" for halving. Way off topic here, but think about a plan b where people who want, people in the community, have plans on how to continue and expand on involvement in mining.

Anyway, hope to hear from you
202  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 07, 2015, 02:52:50 AM
I considered it heavily before this mini model. Now, yeah, may as well wait and see what else pops up.
The S7 is the dominator, but who knows, we could get lucky and see something before the end of the year that stands up and costs less.

Although, it doesn't matter, they will sell out fast.
I'm thinking more along the lines of leaving a little in the pot to see what might jump. There has been a lot of talk about the renders going around, heh, but who knows, the S7 is shipping. Gotta still give bitmain that. Albeit, it is about time to start seeing that delay payment coin.

Hello Guys,

I have some issues with my S5. I have sent board to Bitmain RMA and when they came back after putting them together and starting the miner, all asic are detected but it won't stop mining.
Even after multiple resets to default setting, lowering clock frequency etc..

Do you have an idea what can be the cause and how to make it mine again?

You had it in to bitmain rma, it came back and will not hash, right?
Check connections
Test power
What lights do you see?

Here is a guide for how to check the hash board, but tell us more about your particular situation.

204  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S5+ - Notlist3d on: November 07, 2015, 12:12:02 AM

I will second the statement the S5+ has been a solid performer so far.
The hashrate on mine runs 7.64ish.

I have never seen anything which displayed hashrate stay as close as this S7 does.
485x on the dot every second.

205  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 06, 2015, 11:45:50 PM

People were talking about a white sticker on the portion of the hashboard protruding from the aluminum case. Right where you connect the PCIe power connectors. It was matched to the frequency by people posting about it.

Yes, there is a revision # on the PCB as well.

I will toast the same to everyone bringing in the hash, especially canaan we appreciate it.

"No shave" November is starting to look pretty good. I may never shave if it keeps up.

207  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 04, 2015, 04:16:07 AM

I want to throw this out there as a reminder to anyone.
I had a static discharge with an S4 which isn't kept in my mining area, it is kept closer to me for heat.
Over 6 hours or so it lost hash, I'd forgotten about the static, I rebooted and everything was good.
4 hours, same thing, less and less until it wouldn't run at all.

I remembered the static.
I pulled everything down, cleaned, inspected, tested the PSU, everything looked good.
I could not find a burn mark, finished cleaning.

She has been running for two hours now. Cover is still off. I think the static did something to make a connection poor.
I'd previously checked power, and swapped power.

It would show 2TH+ on the average, the 5 sec would ramp up with the fans, but after X amount of time the 5 sec would be 0 and the average might be 1300, or 1500. I think it was the PSU making a poor connection.

I'm not out of the woods yet, but it is looking up and I thought I'd share if that helps anyone.
Sometimes they want to be straightened out and moved around a bit.
208  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin mining 117 blocks solved! on: November 04, 2015, 04:07:37 AM

Congratulations.
Slow Clap seriously. Fantastically amazing things like you guys going out of your way to be generous, no way of knowing anything, and still being generous, I think that is one of the many things which happen with this currency and way of making more, a different way of helping each other with a great bunch of people.

I am proud of just being able to follow you around and post.

Thanks for doing things like this.
This is the kind of thing that should be shown on the news.
That changes lives.

I could see the community supporting that in a big way. Especially if it is a vetted family or individual who needs assistance. Just like fredi is I have no doubt, and that is what I'm saying. Phil you are a busy guy and you should talk to some people who might make a story...

"Bitcoin community of home miners to big players solo mine for charity in the 10 minute race for 25 bitcoins"
People would line up to participate.
Easy for me to sit back and throw stuff at you huh Phil?

Seriously, great job guys, makes me proud to come read the stuff you are doing every day with bitcoin.
209  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Weekly pool and network statistics on: November 04, 2015, 03:52:40 AM

Followed @oocBlog
I enjoy reading your descriptions of the charts.

Is there a defining value to make it simple for some of us who look for simplicity --statistically speaking mining pps will have a higher probability to do X based on past performance? OR some derivative which is a canned response for someone who doesn't know where to mine?
Say make the most bitcoin mining at X if mining in western US
or X if mining in Western Europe? China?

Or, are there too many variables to be that specific, it is too much of a personal choice?

What keeps you going week after week publishing, now three times per week right?

I appreciate it and enjoy what you do. I use your information as a reference and spotting trends. I don't do anything with that information but it is great fun.

210  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: November 04, 2015, 12:31:05 AM
It is in that area of Game of Life, but sidehack will explain it much better than I.

This may be the same as the original link he posted.

I am damn excited to read about onboard hardware temp sensing displayed in software.

Quite a few miners have to run close in the hottest of their summer, and somewhere people are going through that now. Giving good temp numbers is important when talking about a collector's item as this is sure to be.

211  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 03, 2015, 12:07:36 AM
Hello all,

I'll preface this post with a small disclaimer - I haven't mined since the GPU days and the Compac is my first ASIC. The solution to the problem therefore is probably really obvious!

Today i received my bitshopper.de version of Sidekick and Novak's compac. I've installed Zadiag and changed the driver to WINUSB and i've rebooted (oh so many times!). I'm running Novak's CGminer from the first page of this thread. I'm using the bat file included as administrator on windows 7 and also windows 8. Currently i'm using the bat file as is (i'm aware that it is linked to Novak's bitcoin address) and i've also tried dropping the fequency to 100mhz. I've tried different USB ports, inserting/removing the compac at different times before/when CGminer is running, two computers and have had the miner through my USB doctor currently which is showing 5.03V and 0.19amp draw.

Essentially CGMiner reports no miners, but on looking through the USB menu and listing the devices it does find it as "Bus 2 Device 3 ID: 10c4:ea60 bitshopperde Compac BM1384 Bitcoin miner". CGMiner then reports "USB init, open device failed, err -3, you don't have privilege to access - GEK device 2:3", and then Gekho detect <2:3> failed to initialise" I'm guessing the second error is due to the first.

Is anyone able to advise? Help is much appreciated.

Try the compac in a different usb port, and / or a different PC.
Narrow it down by piece if it isn't admin mode.

Yep, this is a really old thread. It was replaced almost a year ago and left to the archives. I'm also not sure what you mean by back-order mentality, but it sounds like something I don't like either.

Being as I've been out of stock on these boards for a while due in part to cost and in part to limited demand, go right ahead. But when you announce your product, please do so in your own thread.

sidehack, i do not know what you and novak are going to do...

prof.hell, is in town, and that is 2 L's in hell

I know I cannot wait to see what product comes with my very own prof.hell wrapper. Roll Eyes

215  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: antminer s3+ controller board on: October 31, 2015, 05:28:21 PM

I do not know where you can get that board at a better price. Did you ask Bitmain US - Colorado?

Another thought is you can probably pick up the entire S3 in good working condition for $70.00 in the marketplace.
216  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: s5 not hashing full? on: October 31, 2015, 05:21:52 PM

I have one S5 that is guaranteed to give me:
oooo first line all the way across

second line xxooooooo

Lower clock and soft boot corrects it on reboot sometimes.
Hard boot almost always corrects it.
Either correction, lasts 5 mins to a couple of hours

A severe underclock will correct it for the longest time, hours, maybe more depending on how low.

Checked connections
I have not swapped any parts yet.

My money is on the second / right hash board, but I understand it could be the controller or cable.

Simple, good information provided by Bitmain at their zendesk site:

https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204875015-How-to-diagnose-S5-hashing-PCB

Some people may find it useful to pull these down locally and grab one when needed.
It never hurts to remind experienced brains.

A side note:
Bitmain has a quick video giving the steps to address these types of issues quickly. Props for doing so to Bitmain.
I want to make sure I show I have affection for Bitmain's good points as well. I hope to always discuss the good and bad regarding the choices of miners.

**--If you find incorrect information in the videos which you think are serious enough to require discussion please post me a PM about them and maybe we can make a new thread somewhere. I have not vetted every inch of material by any means. Use your common sense and be safe. -period- and if possible be more safe with live power. Do not work with live power unless it is necessary. Personally, I do not think it makes anyone look cool because they worked with blah blah volts times amps. Why would you want to? It isn't on my list of goals to work with hot high amounts of anything which will kill me, but I tolerate the 120 / 240 / 480 pretty well.

If you do not understand everywhere the power may flow, do not change a circuit, install a breaker, or in general don't do anything but look, take pictures, and write things down at your main panel without some qualified help. Give the forum some details about your rig and people will be happy to give you many great suggestions on your S7 with a wide variety of side products and options.

If you do not understand where the power will flow when you flip the breaker / switch, or circuit on, then have someone qualified, even if you must pay. Start reading and practicing small time. Learn how to respect power even if you aren't interested in learning everything about it.
217  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain on: October 30, 2015, 11:12:47 PM
Bitmain sold Sidehack a batch of chips they knew were going to be outdated shortly after the sale.
IMO just part and parcel of their "dump all the BM1384 gear we can, dump all the chips we can however, before we start selling this BM1385 chip-based stuff we just started building".

KNC has zero interest in home miners, they burnt themselves too often trying to deal with folks that actually expected specs and timeframes to be met - keeping their stuff for themselves avoids all that hassle, at a small cost in potential profits (and a MAJOR net profit gain in lack of lawsuits for non-performance and broken junk shipped etc.).

Avalon seems to have a competent design team - my only issue with them is they think they are Apple or Rolls and can price at a significant premium for perceived quality when the quality doesn't matter that much to a unit that will be obsolete in a year or two.

What would be interesting is if someone with a large chunk of change decided to get into the market and hired Sidehack and Novak and a good semi design team (too bad they're way too small potatoes for Berkshire to get interested in)....

That would be great, but you probably already know how many times Sidehack has said they would never give up creative control, and knowing Sidehack even a little from a few posts, he probably isn't giving up much control of anything except with he and Novac.
Hey, could anyone blame them? If you are in a position to answer to yourself, a partner, and maybe a bank at times, why be in  any other position.

I'm confident there are many creative, talented, smart people working at Bitmain, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the founder also the driving engineer and wasn't there a recent interview where he stated he did most of the design work?

The S7 has been a solid performer for the most part. I do not mean to detract from anyone who has, is, or will be having issues, there have been some major complaints about heat sinks falling off. Well

In the S5+ guide, easily confirmed by posting a pic if it isn't laying around, but it clearly states to inspect the heat sinks prior to starting the unit. It did not say you could not dismantle the unit to check the heatsinks. I am talking about my S5+, not my S7s, but wouldn't it make more sense for most people to do that very thing?
IT is so minor to slide the boards out and do a light look over the heatsinks.
Are people going to swap boards between units?

If so, how were S5+ owners supposed to comply with SOP re: warranty compliance?

I think that is where people need to use common sense and make a choice, but do not turn the unit on with a loose heatsink.

I'm not telling anyone what to do, I am commenting in this thread regarding the topic of Bitmain, but wanted to throw that out there.

That lady luck is going to keep on bouncing along, she rewards and she goes on a dry spell but when she comes it is pop pop pop. The chances are as good one way or the other of course, but things do seem to randomly happen that are great sometimes as well as anything else.

All in for a long time coming.
220  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: October 30, 2015, 12:16:11 AM
Evening all,

First post and all that, but have been following this thread for months now,

Do we know of the possibility of a group buy being set up? or is that out of the question.

I currently run a number of Spondoolies-tech SP3x series and would like to keep buying their kit due to the unrivalled build quality and form factor.

Kinda a guessing game when buying second hand kit.

Regards
Alex

I would LOVE to setup a group buy, as I think that is the only way I would get my hands on one of these machines.  The problem is that 1) without a published price, it would be impossible to arrange 2) without having all of the group buy participants and money together, SP won't acknowledge that I want to place an order and give me the necessary information 3) without SP giving their approval, I can't even say that they will sell to me if I did get 15 buyers together who wanted to purchase.

It appears the impression is that the units will sell for between 30-45K each and will be available in Q1 of 2016.  I would say if there's genuine interest among a dozen people who have that kind of $, I would love to host a group buy.  Unfortunately, I think it would have to be done blindly for the buyers, without knowing the actual price until all the BTC is collected and a deal has been made with Spondoolies.

In short, if you want 1 of these units, have ~$40K sitting around, and want to pledge it for a group buy of one of these machines, feel free to drop me a PM and let me know.  If there were a dozen people, I think it would warrant a conversation between myself and Spondoolies.

As mentioned, jtoomim would make for a great choice to host a GB as well, and I would be interested in joining that if it were made available also.

I would definitely be interested at some level. Obviously for many of us timing is everything. As much as I love my SPTeam I have to keep things moving more like a business lately and that isn't quite as fun, but still requires the appropriate decision. I will not be running anything over the S5+ efficiency. What is it .44 or .46? But I cannot wait until March of next year to be there.
I'm still working my SP20s and S5s I haven't sold but I am looking at exchanging that + cash to the best I can get. If that is S7 so be it. I believe the bigger the hash can be more important than the efficiency if it is within a reasonable amount because I am a dreamer. heh

I am defintely interested in doing something along this way, be it any size, but I would be as thorough as anyone if I don't see my miner, and if I don't have choices on mining locations that would be important. It could be difficult to rent shares from an SP50. Each person really needs one to themselves and then they work out deals with friends.

Keep me in mind though!
