381  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase is restricted to cell phone users only. on: August 11, 2017, 09:11:37 PM
These days that's a $15 investment. Hardly bank breaking.

Regardless of that I thought they were moving away from SMS type verification. Perhaps this is just for registration, if it isn't that's not good security practice.

Amen. I cant really be mad at them for this, its too easy nowadays to subvert sms/sms provisioned 2fa via social engineering. tying this to a personal sms reduces their liability; its damn hard to claim someone got access to your mobile that long, multiple times, without you knowing (if you have call of activity stamps, you have no claim).

as stated, just get a phone for this. you can even use a virtual phone number but beware; if you lose access to that specific number you will be locked out of your account in certain circumstances. a sim costs 40 bucks in the States, I assume they are much cheaper elsewhere. if the phone is more value than the assets you are trying to protect, perhaps you should reevaluate the situation Wink

Yes... considering how many people are getting scammed these days still (just read the forums for an hour and you will see them every day), while this is annoying it is the best method to prevent their users getting hacked.

Hopefully someday Bitcoin/crypto will evolve to the point where this is not necessary. Think about online banking... essentially the same as crypto where if you hack someone's credit card info/pass you can quite easily steal their money, but we never hear nearly as many stories of people getting scammed in this way.

I think it just has to do with the maturity of crypto as it really isn't even 10 years old yet and most of the companies don't have resources that banks do to keep their clients secure.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Scammers have stolen my money on: August 11, 2017, 09:15:02 AM
You shouldn't share your words phrase with anyone.
If your bitcoins have already been sent to their address, You can do nothing. You lost them forever.

I checked the address. They have received 65 BTC just in 3 days.

Wow, this is unbelievable.

This site scammed $200,000 from people in just 3 days. That would be over $24,000,000, if they do it every day.

What a shame their are scammers in Bitcoin - it is really the only issue we have in this community.
383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hacker tells Bitcoin creator, 'You are not safe. Get out.' on: August 11, 2017, 09:10:40 AM
It is virtually impossible to truly hack Bitcoin. 99% of the Bitcoins which are hacked are from users who do not secure their accounts well enough and leave their coins on public exchanges and 3rd party wallet sites which inevitably will go down.

If people used paper wallets instead and only used trading sites/exchanges to trade rather than store their coins then the risk of getting exit scammed drops very low and crypto would be a safer place.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Scammed 16 coins taken on: August 11, 2017, 01:29:27 AM
Dude I feel so bad for you. My family lost over 20 Bitcoins from scams and it sucks to think about how much money that is. What I recommend is if you have more money wait until this bubble we are in pops and then go all-in and buy more than you had before so that you will not look back in regret about this for the rest of your life. All the best to you, man.
385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cyber-heisted myself for (1.001 BTC) on: August 10, 2017, 06:50:52 PM
Dude it is seriously unbelievable how many hacks/scams there are in Bitcoin.

And also do people think stealing other's money is going to make them happy or their life better?!

What is wrong with people these days...  Undecided
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What people are saying about the surge in bitcoin price on: August 09, 2017, 05:00:23 AM
Simple.

After all of the drama subsided, people were confident enough to put their money back into Bitcoin/altcoins.

Everyone was hesitant to wait and see what happened, but not that all is clear we are back on track to cross $5,000 this year.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can the Most Powerful Computer on Earth Hack Bitcoin? on: August 08, 2017, 11:00:46 PM
Obviously not.

On a sidenote, I remember reading about some guy that used his supercomputer at work (some huge tech company, forget which one) to mine DOGE a few years back. I think he got fired? Anyway, pretty sure he got caught, but not before making good bank. (DOGE was worth way more back then)
388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 Bitcoin ? Segwit , Segwit with 2MB , 8MB Bitcoin Cash on: August 08, 2017, 10:16:48 PM
with that definition there are at least 200 bitcoin because about 200 (give or take) altcoins have forked from bitcoin. a lot of them have actually given airdrops like BCC to the users and hodlers of bitcoin.

a correct definition however is, bitcoin is what the consensus says it is. and you already know what the consensus rules say bitcoin is.

I like how your username is Bitcoin Hodler and you mention Hodling Bitcoin in your posts. Grin

That is the definition of staying true to your name. Smiley
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is amazing on: August 08, 2017, 09:12:01 PM
My question is for long term is it better to wait or is the price going to keep rising. Maybe we have a new bottom?
I know it's speculation but curious what people are thinking.

I am 100% certain that it is going to go to $1,000,000 per 1 BTC in the future.

I am so certain about this, that I am willing to commit to pay you 10 BTC if it never reaches an exchange rate of $1,000,000 per 1 BTC.
This is a bet? Are you sure that bitcoin will increase to that level? I do not have faith in it. Can you give more convincing evidence, such as how long bitcoin will reach such a level. I need a specific time to place my trust in it. Thank you.

It's very possible. The question is.. When? It might be 80-100 years from now. Whereas you, DannyHamilton, the people that's joined in on the bet, and I would be probably dead already.  Cheesy

Anyway, back on topic. I too, got in bitcoin, or cryptocurrency in general, a year or so ago. I still have huge hopes on bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies but take note that bitcoin also has a chance of failing. Yes. Not spreading FUD here, just being very realistic. In the future out of nowhere an altcoin could just beat bitcoin in every other category and steal the number 1 spot from bitcoin. That's the main reason I always suggest diversifying investments to people, and not only invest in bitcoin alone.

IT is just a joke... no one would honor such a bet which will only happen in 80-100 years. Grin
While the price may hit $1,000,000 people forget it maybe will go higher too...
But I think we should focus first on $10,000 and worry about 1 million after. Smiley
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How strong is Bitcoin compared to others cyptocurrency? on: August 08, 2017, 04:59:03 PM
Simply look at the markets. Bitcoin does and always has outperformed every other altcoin by an extreme margin. It isn't even close. I don't think any coin has ever got to even 20% of the value of Bitcoin, at least in the past few years.

The only downside to this is trading isn't as wild. Although it is hard to even say that considering the price regularly fluctuated 5% multiple times every day... compared to other altcoins that is actually a small number, though.
391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BREAKING NEWS]: SegWit Lock-in Today 8th August 19:50 UCT on: August 08, 2017, 04:55:12 PM
Everyone hang tight and brace for... nothing!

All this FUD and realistically nothing bad is going to happen.

Look at the price now up $600 in 48 hours. Grin
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about the other crypto currencies that exist? on: August 08, 2017, 04:51:51 PM
THey are second to Bitcoin. Period. Bitcoin is king and always will be. The only one which might be able to surpass it is Ethereum, based on the fact it allows for token creation for ICOs, etc. Otherwise it is all Bitcoin full steam.

Something interesting to note... I was watching a MArk Zuckerberg lecture and he said Friendster had the same problem Facebook did with connect friends to each other in terms of who interacts most... after a few magnitudes, it gets extremely tough. They perservered whereas Friendster did not, and here we are today.

What happens when we look for a solution for Bitcoin, yet it never comes or gets rejected? Well, then, another coin could take its place!
393  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin rate on: August 08, 2017, 04:48:27 PM
Why not? According to my calculations, the price will continue rising to between $5,000-6,000.

We are only half done with this exponential climb.
394  Economy / Lending / Re: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ SKYLINE247's EASY MICROLENDING SERVICE ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ on: August 08, 2017, 03:24:06 AM
This account is currently being used as collateral for a loan, and should NOT be returned to previous owner.

Repayment: 0.175 BTC to address: 1FZVJsSkCGbnr2n7kkCsaGVhuTpidZZ4YR before August 8th, 23:59 UTC

* This message will be deleted upon repayment.

Im sorry but i don't see the original owner coming back for the account. You should have more strict ruled about taking account as a collateral.

I do not mind if the borrower does not want it back, as the account is worth more than was loaned. (that is the point of collateral)

396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 8Ball Pool - The Game where you will become a millionaire - ICO 12 AUG on: August 07, 2017, 09:31:25 AM
Lunching a game app. Where it will be same like 8ball pool.
But in the place of coins there would be dollars and Bitcoins that people will play each other on that. Lunching ICO will be tomorrow

Rules:

Sign up for free.
Membership members will get reward daily 0.00020BTC.
After 1 hour there will be spin for dollars and cash.
Game will be based on 8 Ball pool.
Bots account will be strictly banned.

Before you make an ANN, please make sure you provided all information needed.
Your ANN very bad, absurd and just lead people to say you not serious with your project.

The spelling is horrendous - not to mention barely any info, lack if signature campaign information (despite that it is apparently starting in a few hours). I think there needs to be more info.
Also, the game design looks very basic compared to the Miniclip version so I don't know if that will go over so well. Good luck with the project in any case, will keep watching here.

Now regarding my loan. I still need it in the next 14hours

Hi,

Your account still has negative feedback. Unfortunately, even if you are telling the truth I cannot accept it for this reason.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: World's Biggest AIR-DROP in History happening! on: August 07, 2017, 02:53:44 AM

Hello BCT,

So as of now most of you (who is holding BTC) have already got AIR-DROP of new BCC/BCH/Bitcoincash
What are you going to do with this new coin?
Are you going to Hold , Sell, already Sold? What is your prediction about Bitcoincash ?

I think people will sell all BCC and forget about Bitoincash

What is your opinion ?

I just want everyone to take a moment to appreciate the quality of your posting format. It looks great. With that said, I will be selling Bitcoin Cash is I get it, but unfortunately my Bitcoins were on an exchange...
399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York City Employee Disciplined For Mining Bitcoin at Work on: August 07, 2017, 02:52:15 AM
This reminds me of the story about the guy who used his work (or school's?) super computer to mine Dogecoin a few years back when it was actually worth something. It went viral.
The guy got caught and I don't remember if he was punished, but imagine how much he made. lol
400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People should get the full story of r/bitcoin, one of the strangest subs on: August 07, 2017, 02:46:53 AM
Well then, by your theory if it is true then your thread will get deleted, so let's see what happens now... Grin
