Maybe Regression theorem is just wrong? It's a hypothesis that can be falsified.

Simply general difficulty in accepting something new.
The Verge, Slashdot, Arstechnica are techy as much as Hacker News. Slashdot was the first to cover bitcoin, even. Yet, the evolution of their views are different.

I have the impression that in most comment sections, there are usually no more than 2 or 3 VERY outspoken individuals who dominate the discussions by quickly throwing out as many arguments against Bitcoin as possible. They seem to prefer quantity over quality. They also often use the typical vocabulary like "buttcoins" etc. that was introduced by the SA forums, which has always had a vendetta against Bitcoin. Maybe that is where they are coming from, i don't really know.
Which will get you downvoted quick. Trolls don't live very long there.

I do not quite understand where the hostility towards Bitcoin and Bitcoin users that I see in so many comments under different articles comes from. It seems like some people try very hard to discredit Bitcoin in any way possible.
So why does Hacker News like bitcoin or at least neutral about it and other sites hate bitcoin?

Gold sucks, it is irredeemable
Thinking about money is hard! It's one of the strangest fiction ever invented by mankind.

Everybody forgot that namecheap.com is run by Zhou Tong, the embezzler of bitcoinica?
Edit: sorry, I got confused memory.

Is slashdot supposed to be for tech geeks or am I mistaken?
It seems lately its more for tech ignorants and "empty" people who are afraid of progress and automatically dismiss everything that does not fit their point of view. Or perhaps, is it just envy ? They envy us and they cannot reconcile that WE are the early adopters, not them. No, they were one of the first wave of immigrants into the bitcoin. Nowsday, they're just old farts who refuse to update beliefs.

Isn't New Hampshire also considering to make gold and silver legal tender again?
They should make everything legal tender! Although, I don't think the NH likes receiving trucks for tax payments.

In freaking New Hampshire? Damn it, my area never gets anything cool... That's where all the libertards live. If you want anything cool that libertards likes, you better move there.

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5242268A hacker news discussion on silk road. Everybody on Hacker News already knows about silkroad, though. It just so happens that hacker news want to talk about bitcoin today. The article itself is a fairly old one from 2011, although it has been continuously updated since then.

Hah, I think he was just trying to get a chuckle out of the masses.. most people still don't understand why that's funny/not possible.
They can, if they know where you live. Even if you have a brainwallet, they can resort to torture.

If everybody knows "The Innovator's Dilemma", why do they act like it's not true?

When the asteroid miners come back with the gold and silvers, we'll be the one who's laughing. MUHAHAHAHAH.

If it's not the 3 guys who wrote the paper, it's Bram Cohen. Bram Cohen doesn't like bitcoin.

Back before I joined Bitcoin Magazine, I was writing (really, the sole writer) for a site called Bitcoin Weekly. When the owner of the site (kiba) ran out of money to maintain the site and pay contributors, I came up with an interesting business model. Every week I would write two articles, and kiba would release summaries of the articles together with a Bitcoin address and "ransom". When the ransom was paid, he would release the content. The mechanism actually worked pretty decently, earning me about $3-$6 per hour for my work. There are actually lots of cool and untested business models that Bitcoin, especially together with Bitcointip, can make possible. Just go out and try it!
"I came up with an interesting business model"?

I highly doubt that Sirius is Satoshi. I know Martti personally and I've talked to him many times, and my impression is that he is not Satoshi and he also doesn't know who Satoshi is. My opinion is that with a 95% certainty it's not him. I've also met Vili Lehdonvirta whom has also been suspected of being Satoshi, and for him I can say with a 100% certainty that he is not Satoshi.
Personally I think that Satoshi is either someone from Trinity College in Ireland or a group of people from there. That is the most plausible lead I've seen on the hunt for Satoshi. I could be wrong though.
People suggests everything from a group of people to individual as "most likely".
