What coin were you guys thinking about?  BTC?   If say, we decided to merge mine with a coin and it failed would we have to hard fork again to switch to another merge mined coin?

When a coin is merge minable, the user can choose almost any SHA256 coin to mine it with, not just BTC. So no, if any coin fails it makes no difference to TRC.

So, if you have not heard yet there is another serious vulnerability for anyone running Unix based machines.

A severe vulnerability in the Gnu C Library's DNS client has been discovered and it affects just about EVERY bitcoin implementation.

Info here: http://linux.slashdot.org/story/16/02/16/1724222/red-hat-google-disclose-severe-glibc-dns-vulnerability-patched-but-widespread

Patches are available, but you must update.

For Debian/Ubuntu:

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo reboot

The reboot is important.

Thanks for the heads up windpath - done.

Recently I was under the impression that merge mining made it look like the coin had already failed, what do you think?

Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Some of the oldest coins in crypto are merge mined: NMC, IXC (mining completed), I0C, DVC, CLC, GRP, XGG to name a few, plus more recently UNO, MYR, CRW, HUC, RICHX, WLC etc have all adopted merge mining. With BTC diff going through the roof, miners are looking for ways of providing much needed income & merge mining not only provides this, but also introduces them to other altcoins as well as providing those coins with the security of large hash rates. I'm not aware of a single altcoin that has failed due to merge mining, in fact the opposite is true - it provides stability & a firm user base to build on.

As far as POS is concerned, POS coins come & go every other day for a reason.

These are supposed to be p2pool nodes:

http://miner-control.de:8000/getting_started - Pooled Mining and P2Pool Node (German)
http://p2pool.e-pool.net:8932/static/ - P2Pool Node

Tell me if they work and if not I will remove them from the OP and Reddit sidebar immediately.

Miner control doesn't mine TRC & I'm unable to connect my node to e-pool. I noticed they are using an old version of p2pool for their node, so tried using the same version but to no avail. I've also tried using the latest p2pool version as well as the rav fork, but still am unable to connect to any nodes to download the sharechain. Maybe a PM to forrestv (p2pool dev) would provide more info - but I fear it's a wallet issue, not a p2pool one.

Do you mean worldleadcurrency.conf?

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood your question...... Tongue

Good to see this coin getting some overdue attention & hopefully some updates  Smiley

For even better stability/security, I suggest making the coin merge minable?

Are there any TRC p2pool nodes out there? I'm trying to set one up but am unable to find any nodes to download the p2pool sharechain from.

As far as I'm aware it's a straight swap - no changes needed. I tried the classic client for a few hours, but the latency was higher & a bit erratic, so I reverted back to core again.

however, can you please check if you have set some min tx fee with your mining?

According to the getinfo command:

Code:
"paytxfee" : "0.00"

This is with both the older client & the latest git version with commit 31cac2d, which compiled & is running fine btw.

Oh right, I thought it might have been c-cex..... Wink

Hello world,

i was informed, that the code has a rounding error, after going into the "stationary" phase. The rounding should now be fixed. Everybody that is running into some error while mining, please download the new sourcecode. Fix is not included in the windows wallet jet.

Rik

This breaks the daemon for me running on Xubuntu 64bit - it compiled fine but crashes instantly when started. I've reverted back to the previous version & everything is fine again.

Who told you this change was needed?

Nice to wake up to a long overdue BLOCK!  Smiley

Hopefully there will be a few more before the halving, when I'll be switching off my miners  Sad

Interesting factoid: The last p2pool block was the first one found by a Bitcoinclassic node.......

guys why cant we have exchange?
dev this coin is way better than many.

whats stopping us?

The pre-mine. No exchange worth their salt will add a heavily pre-mined coin - especially one over 50%.

Unless they are paid to, of course. But it will cost.

I contacted C-Cex a few times but no reply by now. Maybe they checking their Backdoors after the cryptsy event?

I finally got a reply from them:

Wallet has issues. We are working to put it back online very soon.

Pretty vague........

Where can I download the source for the latest version of Bitcoind that might work? 0.11.2 is useless.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin

Maybe toomin was loading up classic on his nodes...........

What about the performance cost? The server is using resources for an alt coin, slowing down the server = less BTC.

My node efficiency very rarely goes below 105% - although looking at it now it is at 102.8%. It pretty much stays like that weather I merge mine or only mine BTC.
37  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 11, 2016, 11:46:20 PM
1) What % of the BTC earning is that?

I have no idea, I never bothered working it out.

2) What % would it be today now that altcoins are all pretty much worth nothing as people slowly realise the scam - free coins, that people only get to sell them, should be worth nothing.

I have no idea about that either, for the same reason.

I don't much care for altcoins either, & am in complete agreement with you about them. However, if I am able to merge mine them at no extra cost to myself, then cash them in at exchanges for BTC when I feel the price is right, then why wouldn't I? After all, that is what merge mining is for & what attracted me to p2pool in the first place, amongst other things. Alt(shit)coins are simply a means to provide a little extra income - the fact that I merge mine them with p2pool does not mean that I like/trust/care about them. Without merge mining them I probably wouldn't be able to afford to run my node, so they serve a purpose to me, nothing else. It's a pain having to keep checking the prices on all the different exchanges, but if I get it right, it's nice to get those little extra satoshi - it just helps.

Well, so far this year I have earned an extra BTC1.4194942 by cashing in some of my altcoins that I merge mined with p2pool. It's a matter of perception kano, it might be almost zero to you, but for the hobby miner like myself it goes a long way towards paying the electricity bill, as well as providing income during the lean "luckless" periods  Wink
39  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 11, 2016, 07:30:58 PM
I ran a year-long test comparing NastyPoP to standard p2pool payouts.  I had 2 identical S3s mining - one configured to get standard p2pool payouts, the other configured for NastyPoP.  At the end of the year, the data shows that the S3 getting standard p2pool payments made 96.99% of expectations.  The S3 on NastyPoP made 91.04%.

I calculated expected earnings by figuring out how much 440GH/s should have made using the following formula:
Code:
reward / (2^256 / (((2^224 - 2^208) / difficulty) * hash rate))
All data is available in an Excel spreadsheet for examination here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vv7r7ejq2pquynl/pop_vs_p2p.xlsx?dl=0

Let's not forget the potential to merge mine 14 other coins on top of Bitcoin with p2pool (I'm currently only mining 11 though), with more on their way. It all adds up.
40  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: February 10, 2016, 09:36:59 AM
I know its a noob question but I am new at it.

Trying to compare p2pool with any other pool after only 8 days is pointless & will only give you inaccurate & misleading information, hence your apparent confusion. In order to truly compare you should mine for a much longer period, then you will see the difference. P2pool is for people who understand & care about the future of Bitcoin & a decentralised network, so coming to this thread & telling miners to move to a different pool simply because you are impatient & don't understand the workings of p2pool won't work, you'd be better off spendinding your time reading up on the basics & digesting the facts.

If all you are after is a quick profit, quit mining & start buying/selling. The profit train left the mining station a long time ago.
