Corporates pay corporate tax rates on profits.

Except pass-through corporates that pay personal tax rates on profits.

As of December 31st, it held 0.09181239 BTC per share. We're about to have a stock split, though, happening tomorrow, so this figure will no longer be accurate per share, but the amount of BTC will still be proportional to this after the 1 to 91 stock split.

1,916,600 shares of the Trust issued and outstanding as of the date of this press release

So they should have about 176k btc now.

And replying to myself, Polk says that Authy uses your phone number!?!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBVCn7q_fSI  08:15

They use it for some stuff, but it doesn't appear to involve the actual keys, so should be fine.
544  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2018, 01:33:13 AM
Text message 2fa is not true 2fa for the very reason hackers can port your phone number.
google authenticater or authy  is true 2fa in that no phone number involved.

Is there any way to stop Authy from keeping a copy of my secret keys?

Replying to myself, Authy backups are encrypted locally. Yay!

Also people going CRAZY over GPUs. People basically paying $1500 for GPUs and Computer Stores either Out of Stock on PSUs or REFUSING to sell PSUs without a Mobo+CPU combo.

People are mining on Nvidia these days?

Where can I get those, are those old phones? How about more recent Nexus (Google) phones? or the Pixel 1 or Pixel 2?

I might get a Samsung Galaxy, old model, if I find one. They seem to be decent enough.

It's an old Google phone, available on Ebay/Amazon/etc.

The Pixels are great phones, I just don't think you can build your own firmware straight from AOSP.
548  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 24, 2018, 06:40:13 PM
Get a Nexus 4 ($100) and build AOSP yourself.

Like the last 3 movies I watched included a gold digging wife that stayed with their shitty husband because he made money and then as soon as he loses the money they want to get a divorce and take the children.

Where can I find a wife like that?

If they print money to keep the btc price low, then we print tether and buy more bitcoins. Get rekt.

That's what MtGox did.

Can someone confirm this? Is trading locked or anything like that? This seems like a massive oversight if I could just dump my one share now (at roughly the same price as yesterday) and still be able to get the 90 free shares.

We're in some weird territory. The split should be locked-in, but the price hasn't dropped. This is an interesting detail in the press release:

Shareholders contemplating a transaction in the Trust's shares between the record date and payment date should consult a broker regarding their entitlement to the split shares.

It seems to imply that the bonus shares may transfer with the sale of a share. Very strange.
552  Economy / Speculation / Re: GBTC Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: January 23, 2018, 04:09:37 PM
I guess we need to see what people will trade GBTC for tomorrow since the record date has already happened, but say I sell a share tomorrow (when it is still roughly 0.1 BTC) - won't I still get the free 90 shares even I go ahead and sell my one share?

Yes, that's how I read it. The shares are now split. You now own 91 shares, even though you only see 1 share in your account.
553  Economy / Speculation / Re: GBTC Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: January 22, 2018, 11:27:14 PM
I don't get the separate record and split dates. So for those holding today (Jan. 22) they can sell before Jan. 26 and then get a free 90 shares?

Sure you can sell them, but people will only pay 1/91st for them if you sell them post-split. You won't get to sell post-split shares at full-price and then get free 90 shares.

Think of it more as just a delivery delay of the free 90 shares for whatever reason.

Figure software RAID under Ubuntu is good enough (?)

Yup, works great and is easy to recover from failures. You have to install the Server version if you want to set up the RAID config during install, then you can add the desktop GUI if you want after install.

Can anyone recommend a decent i7 or Xeon based system, smallest form-factor possible, capable of housing at least 4 x 3.5" drives ?

Chenbro makes a nice case (4x hot-swap bays) if you don't mind installing your own CPU&motherboard.

555  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you check Bitcoin price everyday? on: January 18, 2018, 06:05:41 PM
I have a window open on a second monitor with the price chart. I always know the current price.

And I've used my crypto profits to book everyone here in for an involuntary sex change.

Would it be a stretch to say that there are too many people on the planet?

Yes. Estimates are the planet can support about 10 billion, which we should reach in about the year 2100.

CostCo taking bitcoin would be a big deal :-D weee ~ got pizza?  Cool

We're within about 10x of a pizza costing 10,000 satoshis, instead of 10,000 bitcoins.

Now you tell me! I'm already at work. I wondered why no one was here yet.

HitBTC supports a lot of the fork coins (deposits and withdrawals of crypto without ID verification and ok for USers).
