962  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone have a good remote access system for their mining rigs ? on: September 04, 2012, 02:57:47 PM
My mining rigs run BAMT and so I have used SSH. I just wish I were better with the linux command line. :/ Its been a trail and error learning experience the past month or so.
I think that is the point of this thread.  If you want something simple and will take little effort either logmein or teamviewer for free.  If you want something that is light, custom and could take some time to setup the way you want then there are many command line and windows/linux formats you can use for free too.  It’s like this, if I want butter I can go and see how the land-o-lakes works out or I can take some cream and churn away.  Sure I will know the butter in and out along with any special things like adding some vanilla for a fun taste but at the end of the day I don't care about butter that much I just need some for something I am trying to eat.
My deal is that when something is wrong with the rig I want something that will get me in fast and fix the problem fast.  I will admit it here first; my name is HDSolar and yes I use an iPhone.  There I said it so burn me at the stake now for not having a droid or some Chinese knockoff phone that I programmed to make a call (or text or whatever people prefer over talking on a cell/smart phone now a day).  Logmein has a free app for the iPhone that works and when I am at work and really need to get something done fast because I need to be working at work, logmein is there with no questions asked.  Teamview is good too but I have my reasons for one over the other as my primary.

Understood. My point was going to be that the OP did not state if it was windows or linux, however re-reading his post he does say he is running windows 7. My bad...

I used Logmein for a long time and just recently switched to teamviewer. both are great easy to use programs if your trying to connect to different machines behind a router from somewhere else. If you and your machines are on the same local network then I would use UltraVNC/WinVNC.

Cool. I'll be in contact.

Will the mod miners be taking a back seat now? Any chance of the firmware/bitstream bringing them to 1Gh/s before your ASIC ships?

Thanks to Bitcurex for sponsoring this Mint race!

Agreed! Thank you!!

Ah, That makes sense. After watching it for awhile I did start to see them jump up to 200. Is there a way to tell what the clock speeds are at anytime or do you just have to watch the status window when it over/underclocks?

I thought maybe it was temperature dependent so moved it directly infront of the AC, but I dont think it made a difference.

Thanks for your hardwork in this!! I'll send ya a tip once I make enough to matter.

On your wiki, http://wiki.btcfpga.com/index.php?title=Software, there is a link to BFGMiner compiled for the raspberry pi. Is this the only version for the pi or can the latest version work too?

Yes you can use the latest version of BFG and I would recommend it if you don't mind compiling it yourself

I was just providing a binary which I really need to update.

Ok, Ive never compiled anything in linux before, but it cant be that hard, I'll give it a try.

With regard to ModMiner Quads, what does BFGMiner use to decide when/howmuch to over/underclock?

Ive only been playing with the two together for a few hours but have yet to see it clock up to 200.

Also, is each addin card treated separate or can one "under performing" card bring down the clock for all 4?

cgminer also has a "--target-temp" option that you can adjust, the default is 75 i think.

Cool! Smiley

Yeah, I really have a very very minimal idea as to how bitcoin actualy works, Im still pretty new around here...
974  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT and Wireless - why does it drop, how do I fix? on: August 29, 2012, 12:17:59 AM
Nancarrow, after looking at this I realize that I have no clue how or where to add your code.... Care to explain a bit?

lodcrappo, is there any data you can use from us to help identify the issue? How would one setup the network via command line if we were to remove te gui? I want it to boot and connect to my network automatically ( and stay connected ). If that means use the command line then fine, I just need baby steps to do it... Smiley

So.... what?
Im lost as to how this works... Do we just mine as usual and as we submit shares at random the lowest "number" is the winner? Therefor the only thing we can do to better our chances of winning is submit more shares, aka mine more?
976  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT and Wireless - why does it drop, how do I fix? on: August 28, 2012, 03:42:25 PM
I'll give it a try when I get home. Thanks!
977  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT and Wireless - why does it drop, how do I fix? on: August 28, 2012, 03:06:47 PM
I actually have that setup already, it is connecting my second rig via ethernet (the one that stays connected) as well as my Directv. I didnt want to run a cable from there to my wireless rig but i may have to.

I heard that BAMT 0.6 is planned to come out soon, maybe it will address this issue?
978  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT and Wireless - why does it drop, how do I fix? on: August 28, 2012, 01:24:36 PM
All weekend I was home and not once did my wifi drop. This morning Ive been at work less than an hour and its not reporting on my pool... Nancarrow, you said about creating some type of script, What if you could setup something to ping your router and if the ping fails it can attempt a reconnect?

Im at a loss as to why this is happening (total linux noob). I cant see it being a signal strength issue because the router is just in the next room, 10ft away. and the same setup worked flawlessly with the exact same hardware in the same location with WinXP.

Aggravating to say the least...
979  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: August 28, 2012, 01:14:24 AM
Is it possible to update cgminer to the latest version on BAMT? Im a total linux noob as well as new to bitcoins. So far I have used the guiminer in windows and then switched to BAMT where I use the gui to set everything up. My command line experience is minimal, however Im eager to learn.

I want to use cgminer 1. just to try a different miner 2. to experiment/learn 3. to use the autofan feature to automatically adjust the fan speeds up and down as needed.

I have no idea how to even setup/use the cgminer thats included with BAMT so maybe thats a first step? But I figured the latest version might be more stable/faster/more features?

Where do I start?

you may wish to hold off, some changes in the upcoming version will make things easier.

as for using the latest version, I don't know if it's a good idea.  We use the version we use because there were stability issues with newer versions.  I have heard that version 2.5.0 is good, but not sure on versions after that.  Also don't know if there are any performance improvements or what features might be present in versions newer than the one we use.  Someone else might be able to comment on that.

in any case, get the included version working before working with something else, since you are at least working with a well tested and known stable version then.

I saw your post about the upcoming version, very cool! Thanks for your work on this project, by the way!!

Is there a tutorial somewhere for cgminer on BAMT? I saw in the conf file a comment about it but all it says is "see full version to use cgminer instead" or something similar... where/what is the full version?

look at /opt/bamt/examples/bamt.conf for the full set of options, including those needed for cgminer

Thanks, it took me a lot of trial and error but I think I got it working!
