421  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Development Project] A New Era: IPv7 on: January 03, 2014, 05:19:59 AM
I recently moved house and organised an Internet connection and was reminded of the litany of associated protocols. The phone/internet system is a botch of systems all working together. Think ADSL1/2+, Naked DSL, VOIP, Fibre, Cable, etc. Another example of this protocol mess is the internet. We have HTTP, FTP, SSL, DNS, TLS etc. and on the p2p side: BitTorrent. Delve deeper you get thousands of old protocols. If you go and look at the Wikipedia page for Push technology, there are about twenty different ways to longpoll.

The point I am trying to make is that computers are becoming increasingly complex and maybe it is time to rebuild from a clean slate. Vint Cerf (Chief Internet Evangelist for Google) proposes something like this in an article here, where he suggests an "InterPlanetary Internet", a delay-and-disruption-tolerant network.

I'm starting a new project, a new operating system that will attempt to standardize all aspects of computers, and be adaptable to any device. Specifically, I'm interested in:

* More Secure DNS (maybe based on NameCoin)
* Standardised Protocols for Voice, IM and Email communication
* All communication is encrypted.
* Etc.

If you want to look at this another way, there have always been those who have stayed two steps ahead of the authorities. A few years ago, those users were Tor users. Now it is time to move on and pioneer a new network.

Comments, criticism, assistance and suggestions requested needed. I also need developers. The purpose of this post is to attract such help.

Interest piqued.

Does that include power cost and everything else ?

Everything except a small fee to cover power. Each trusted host will likely have their own rates.

PLease help me understand and clarify if I have my numbers wrong. for 5400Khs X .90 it would run me $4860.00

I currently have a set up which runs 5400 khs and cost me roughly $5000 GPUs, the power costs me $5 a day, but I can control and switch to whatever scrypt I want at any time... Am I missing something? and Alpha which I am thinking about pre-ordering is providing 25000Khs for roughly $9000.

Please clarify if I am understanding wrong, thanks . Huh

Pretty sure that about sums it up, time of delivery is key for both this project and Alpha, as it is with most mining...though as far as I can tell...we're all early.  Even the damned usb miners are delivering ROI for people that got in when they first came out, and I suspect anyone buying the hardware today will be greatly awarded for doing so ten years from now...probably much sooner...but especially in ten years.

The beauty of early adoption.

5400khs*0.90=4860-10% = would be $4374 if paid in LTC.

You can also control and switch to other scrypt coins. If you would prefer to use Alpha, I suggest https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=2859.0 doing some research first. We do not view Alpha as viable competition.

seems to be a very good idea ,but wont litecoin(and other coins ) end up like bitcoin then? only can mine with elite hardware ...making it  out of reach for the common people ?

That will be addressed also, we have discounted hardware options in the works also.

You would keep it for as long as its hosted and afterwards you would be shipped the unit. So as long as you dont overclock probably many years.

0.90$ per khs unless paying in LTC at which point it gets a 10% discount.

We will be none of the above, this is going to be a whole new way of dealing with the crypto world.

Dear Jasinlee,
When Will you provide PCB design, schematics, firmware etc for the users?
Where can we buy just the chips?

All the designs will be public long before we ship the units. We will be making some of the pcb designs open source. We will probably sell chips also by themselves, but that will be again once the competition is on the market.

Will these work on any Scrypt chain?

Yes, unless they have made some larger modifications to the coin.

Hope the coin dev's make these changes to their coins to circumvent your miner.

Crypto should remain in the domain of the average guy in the street to mine with GPU's that can be bought comparatively cheaply at the corner store & not controlled/owned/mined by big business, whales, or corporations.

That is right, they have stated once the FPGA/ASIC miners come out they will be changing things up. Power to the people!

You guys obviously have no idea what we are doing and have not followed our project at all.

When will the website be up approximatively ?

The site would have been up today.....but my team seems to think they have a life sometimes and want to visit with family or go drinking on new years. I keep explaining to them that this is not the case, but sometimes my slaves happy team members do not follow those directions.

time to crack that whip.

when I used to work in the oil and gas, there was something called Work Life balance.
Sounds inefficient.

And will there be any other fees on top of the miner purchase for the hosting?  If so, any idea what they are and the cost?  Or is the purchase price all-inclusive?

Thanks.  Doing a great job answering questions on this thread.

Thanks, I try to answer as fast as possible so I dont get behind.

The only fees will be calculated out to cover electric and a small amount for the host (we wont be the only ones holding the hosted units as discussed before) I would like to keep it at 1% or less if possible. The actual power draw is so small compared to the speed that it should hopefully have no impact for a long time.

I wonder which will be more overall cost effective. If this Scrypt ASIC miners or the traditional GPU's.

We will have to wait and see. There are so many factors that impact this its insane.

Price, difficulty, power cost in your area, heating, cooling, learning curve, availability, etc

Cool.  Thanks for the quick reply.

When we order a configuration, we will have to pay 100% for it up front?  If so, what happens if a catastrophic event occurs that incapacitates your facility/business?  Will there be a refund?  I.e. what will be the return policy?

Cheers.

We will have a return policy in that we would just refund the coins the user paid for the unit. We are still working out the kinks on this part, but it will bleed into the exchange we are finishing up now. So for example:

1. User A purchased 1 unit and was first in the queue but wants to sell his unit (which is hosted).
2. User A places the single unit up for sale on the exchange just like any security.
3. User B places a buy order and takes over ownership of that unit.
4. User B is then issued the mined coins from that time forward.

We are missing a couple of important steps to this, but this wont be an issue initially, I think we should have any kinks worked out before the exchange goes live.

Just to clarify, when the website comes up, we can start ordering one of the mining configurations to be hosted?

Will there be limits on purchases? -- e.g. one per customer.  This to prevent one person from hoarding all the supply.

And when each mining rig becomes hosted as they are produced, what determines whose miner gets hosted first?  Will that be first-ordered, first-served?

Cheers.

Correct, once the site is up, we will start offering them in stages.

There will be a limit, we do not have a figure yet.

First come first serve, that is correct. But the time period between the 1st miner and last miner being added to the hosts and pools will be minuscule, probably 1-2 days between their times from production to hosted.

Ok, I got the go ahead, Hauntingshade suggested I distribute the miners initially.

awesome, so I can order and get them in hand straight away, thanks.

Its in reference to hosted mining.
