It's 4:26am in Japan, this could go on unnoticed for hours yet
Does that joker over there at gox really not have a cell phone? I could believe that level of incompetence from what we've all witnessed multiple times.

It's official. Gox goxxed itself.
(When your name becomes a verb, you know you suck.)

btc-e now appears to be leading the way on the recovery.
Can gox please just go away? They are as incompetent as it gets.

One of these things is not like the others. One of these things doesn't belong.

Thoughts on this theory going into the weekend?
Usually we see a decline in price on the weekends, especially near in time to reaching an ATH. I believe most people attribute this to a lack of new fiat being able to be pumped into the exchanges to purchase BTC with.
But in this case, with a decline preceding the weekend, there is plenty of fiat already on the exchanges. People sold btc and are now holding fiat on the exchanges. Therefore, everything else being equal, isn't it just as likely that we see a rise over the course of this weekend as it is a decline?

Anytime any coin dips the least little bit, I try to look at the trollbox on btc-e. I laugh hysterically. It's like a convention of these guys:

Am I the only one completely unfazed by this drop? Perhaps it is a sign that I have been involved with BTC long enough to understand that what goes up must come down but will eventually go up again? As a newbie I pretty much panicked in April and was depressed when the price dropped after that epic rise but now it just feels normal and almost welcomed to have some drops. Corrections have to happen in the growth process I believe. The great thing I am seeing is that the drops are getting smaller percentage wise. Perhaps due to the larger number of holders and less whales that can manipulate prices?
No. Everyone else is completely unfazed as well. Well damn. I thought I was just personally starting to become "cooler" to these swings. Apparently everyone else is as well.

I just banned OP.
I lol'd. And then I was sad because in this case, it wasn't true.

lmao the one day I decide to sleep a little late and cut my phone off so I don't get any notifications everything goes to hell. Actually it looks like I missed the scary part and we're recovering now. So maybe that was a good thing.

Capital Gains. god damn it, i should of never sold anything i need to learn how to hide my Capital Gains, should i dump it in BTC? Dude, we have a $750k capital gains personal exemption here in Canada....use it. I'm going to move to New Zealand (from Australia) for a year when I sell mine. Fuck giving 45% of my BTC to the government. If anyone wants to throw out a good tax strategy for an American, I'm all ears. I'm dreading having to pay on my BTC profits. Long term capital gains. Keep your bitcoins for a year, and they qualify. Rates are far better than regular income tax, and are based on your tax bracket. If you manage to keep your regular income low enough, there is even a 0% rate. Most likely you will be paying 15%, unless you do quite well with your regular income . . . also, if you don't have income or any other money coming in, you won't be taxed (after it turns long-term.. as in 1 year) on up to $35k if you're single, and $70k if you're married. i posted a link for this under the legal subforum. I'm going to have to hunt that thread down. I'm self-employed, so I can legally manipulate the amount of income I personally receive every year. Might need to pay myself nothing in a year if there comes a time when I need to cash out. Although this only applies to the first $70k in capital gains? (I'm married.)

The constitutional republic known as the United States of America folded up in 1913. There is no binding social contract with the corporate state set up at that time. I'll write you a letter from federal prison and let you know how that worked out for me.

Whatever the unit is for daily transactions it should just be called "Coin". That seems to be a fairly popular way of referring to bitcoins.
I'm actually a fan of "bits", referring to a millionth of a bitcoin. So at a $1000/BTC exchange rate, a $3.50 cup of coffee is "3500 bits" instead of 3.5 mBTC. Seems more suited to everyday life than "millibitcoins" anyway. Especially considering that by the time we're paying for coffee with it, it's gonna be closer to 35 bits for the coffee. History repeats itself.

I try to keep roughly 80% BTC and 20% LTC with only very minor numbers of smaller alt coins. Thoughts on these numbers? Too much LTC? Not enough LTC?
I think LTC has the chance to grow at a higher % than Bitcoin over the intermediate term and maybe long term as well, simply given the price ratio. I think smaller alt coins have a higher % top as well. Riskier investment though. I think your distribution should be relative to your risk tolerance. Cliche, but true. Agreed. To be honest I think that's why I've settled on a more conservative approach of 80/20 right now. Or atleast I wanted to confirm with others that 80/20 was conservative. It's so hard to know what is what in this new age.
