721  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 20, 2013, 08:43:01 PM
A friend in China mentioned today there's growing curiosity about BTC there after it was featured this weekend on CCTV.  It's made it to the daily hot topic on sina weibo.  Anyone want to speculate on whether/when this might be reflected in the exchanges?

We've discussed this quite a bit since the first CCTV news.  Word is that the latest news was neutral to somewhat positive. I think we are going to see adoption in China, both as a speculative investment but also because of the world economic situation. Something we have to consider also, is that people may start to get behind it as a big FU to the USD. That is probably why the government has been pretty open to it.

I imagine that over the next 6 months to a year that China will be the biggest holders of BTC. Just on population alone, it only takes a few thousand wealthy people to make that happen. Just a feeling of a guess.

As the price of BTC goes up, we either need to go to another term e.g. mBTC or do a split (if that is possible). With the latter no one loses holding power as with creating new shares. I just don't see people being as game to buy when the price is high. But, if it truly starts to grow and is seen as valuable, then mBTC will be the new term.

IAS

I agree.  It's psychological as much as anything.  When we start using mBTC as the standard, I would be surprised if the price didn't increase almost immediately.

If you're a nobody investor without much money, would you feel more comfortable bragging to your friends that that you bought into the BTC market for .1BTC or would you rather say I bought 10,000 mBTC?

722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Update] Root (4-Week Altcoin Announcement) on: May 19, 2013, 06:25:01 PM
At first glance this looks good.

One problem is that the word Root is a swear word in at least one english speaking country. I as far as I know anyway. Maybe it's route that's the swear. An Australian will be able to correct me if I'm wrong. But from what I've been told it's worse than f*ck.

Otherwise I like the higher start difficulty and the fewer rewards for early adopters. That should stave off the normal pump and dump crew and might allow the coin to survive.

I would like to see something innovative though. Like maybe a way to have super fast, safe transactions without having any blockchain bloat. I can think of at least two ways that might just work for how to do that. One is having a mini-chain with a few second confirm time that gets reset every block of the main chain. Another is to have some consensus system like ripple. Both would take quite a bit of work to implement, but if they work it would make your coin much better than any other.

Seems I've heard that before as well.  Glad I'm not a math teacher there.  "Today class, we're going to learn about how to do square fucks."  /giggle giggle giggle

723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Update] Root (4-Week Altcoin Announcement) on: May 19, 2013, 06:15:50 PM
Yes Nolo, it's another innovative coin. Even 15y old kid can do better. I'm tirred of 5 new coins every day. Just make something inovative or keep it for yourself.
Someone change 3lines of code and call it a new coin.

Can that same 15 year old child use proper grammar and spelling?

If you don't like the coin, don't mine it.  Vorksholk has been a long time member of this community and I'm anxious to see what he's able to produce.

The post two posts above mine (by crymo), is why you have to make self-moderated threads these days.  You can delete the complete troll posts yourself that add absolutely nothing to the discussion.

On topic, I'm looking forward to it. Looks really well thought out.

728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The Nibble - Real Currency - 5/19/2013 12AM UTC [UPDATED RELEASE] on: May 19, 2013, 06:07:31 AM
For all questioning the low difficulty, realize ALL coins start at this difficulty.  I have found none that didn't.  When I messed with the difficulty, odd things happened.  Like the difficulty jumping may too much on re-targets, etc.  Its not just a simple change as everyone seems to think.

Name the scrypt coin that started at difficulty 1+

What I did was equalize the difficulty/reward for the road up to difficulty 1.

Anyone crying about insta-ming or pre-mining: You have to realize that someone with 10 - 20MH/s was mining in the early stages and would have received a whopping 2016 NIB for their 1st 2016 blocks (if they got them all).  Again let me spell this out: Worldcoin 1st 2016 blocks = 64,512, Litecoin 1st 2016 blocks 100,800, Feathercoin first 2016 blocks 403,200.

I didn't get a single coin for the first 5000 or so blocks and I released the coin.  Don't see me crying...  just sayin.

I'm a big supporter of alt coins, and normally my biggest criticism of the new ones is the disastrous launch due to orphans and low difficulty.

Like you say, to my understanding mining a genesis block at difficulty of 1 is a nightmare.

Short of doing so, this was a very good method to approach the low difficulty problem.

Yes, I got nothing but orphans in the beginning, but it just didn't matter, because those blocks were practically worthless.  I am getting them now at 32 coins per block.

In short, good job on the launch.  Keep it up with the development and promotion of this coin, and it'll go far.
729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Firecoin˛ Exchange - Google Docs on: May 18, 2013, 11:30:38 PM
I'm not adding that amount to the exchange.  Not without some kind of evidence he actually has that amount.

yea i would like it whats the price of Firecoin to Litecoin atm?

Roughly 1-1.5 LTC per 1k is what the last few transactions that I've seen have gone for.  Not great, but still a fresh new coin.

735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 86 BTC buy wall for BBQ on bter on: May 18, 2013, 12:53:52 AM
In theory someone could make a whole lot of BTC off of these coins.  Most people like using BQC because they are so liquid, quick to confirm, and difficulty is quite low to mine.

Since it is such an old coin, there are only so many BQC that are still active.  I believe many were probably lost or accidentally destroyed during the time the coin was dormant.  Whoever purchased a bunch up to .0001 had the right idea, but he would have been better served buying all the way to .0002.  That way he buys all the cheap coins, and then can start selling them at who knows what price, because there aren't many on bter that are listed above .0002.  The bulk seem to be in that .0001-.0002 range.  And these are the dumpers who don't really care about the coin.

For example, I have alot of BQC, but there's no way I'm selling them this cheap.  Just believe they'll eventually rise.

736  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] We need LiquidCoin pool 25 LQC bounty on: May 18, 2013, 12:48:10 AM
I agree.  Even though difficulty is really low, some people just have trouble solo mining.  Plus it's a good way to be able to keep an eye on all of your miners in a centralized place.

737  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Firecoin˛ Exchange - Google Docs on: May 18, 2013, 12:38:18 AM
is there also a casino for firecoins?

Not to my knowledge yet.  This would be a great addition though.
738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Firecoin˛ Exchange - Google Docs on: May 17, 2013, 09:47:30 PM
Selling at 10 LTC/1k ... yup

How many are you offering at this price?
739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Firecoin˛ Exchange - Google Docs on: May 17, 2013, 06:46:45 PM
Is the new wallet working?  Also can we transfer coins from the old Feathercoin2 wallet to the new Firecoin2 wallet?  I downloaded the new Firecoin2 wallet and it doesn't sync with network.  Did I get a bad copy??

The new wallet works.  But you don't have to use it.  It's mostly just cosmetic changes.  The blockchain never changed.  So your Feathercoin2 coins are Firecoin2 coins.  It's just a name change.
