I've been watching it pretty closely the past 48 hours.
The price has remained completely stable and pegged to BTC. .002-.0025 or so.
There are big buy walls forming on BTC-e. Which indicates to me that people are about to take advantage of this low price.
As far as the difficulty swings go, it looks like they are flattening out a bit. I haven't seen the super low or the super high difficulty. It's staying relatively quiet.
Looks like the storm may have been weathered. Sure there's more work for the devs to do, but I'm not as worried about the survival of this coin anymore. It could use more miners though, especially since it's more profitable to mine TRC than BTC (on average more profitable. Sometimes it will dip slightly under.)

How can there be an exchange when nobody can even download the blockchain?
I've been trying for like 2 weeks now...
The quickest way is to download the blockchain here: http://www.filedropper.com/bbqcoinblockchainThis will get you partially there, and then you only have to download like the last week's worth. I'm not having any trouble connecting now. I was about a month or so ago, but now there appears to be enough people, that I've installed the client on several different rigs, and they all connect pretty easily. So try that, and see if it helps.

BBQ is being implemented into one of the exchanges as we speak. Get to hoarding!
Which exchange? When?

The way it seems, their solution is working very well given you don't have a stalled network like some other chains being borked with right now... with that said I only see a couple solutions to this kind of attack off the top of my head...
1) Implement merge mining and coordinate with a larger merge mine pool or two to pick you up right away to get a much higher base hash rate making this attack less profitable thus less desirable (but still not impossible and potentially not worth it given other attack vectors scummy players have taken by abusing the merge mining capability)
2) Change some mining parameter around so that ASICS are completely broken on this chain, I would think something even as simple as changing the hash algo to use SHA512 instead of 256 should do it no? There are also the next gen hash algo's that could be looked at and there is a "fall back" to try scrypt or a scrypt merge mine.... asics are not very friendly to change given their nature so the change to break them would be easy. Collude with any exchanges to halt trading and you could even 51% them back by breaking them and mining at a point before they started jacking with the chain and overwrite their blocks with newly fairly generated blocks.
Can the hash algorithm be changed without jacking up the current blockchain though? Would that require a hard fork?

Bear with me, I am thinking as I type, so basically miners will increase the difficulty, then stop till the retarget code decides it needs to go down? And when it goes down it gets exploited by the miners with the most hashpower again?
The main problem is the code allows the difficulty to drop by 90%. This is highly exploitable. This isn't the first time an alt-coin made the mistake of asymmetric difficulty adjustment problems. For now the temporary solution is for those of us who support this coin, to keep mining it regardless of difficulty or profitability. Let the dev's work on a more permanent fix, but in the meantime we can protect it by consistently pushing high hash power onto it, to minimize ASIC jackassery.

i personally moved my miners away from p2pool for now, it really looks broken, nearly every found block gets orphaned and stale rate is incredible, i gave a try to multipool.
I'd suggest you check your own p2pool stats (& graphs) page and maybe logs, it can still be coming from my setup.
i'll check my stats tomorrow and then decide if i try solomining or not.
I'm having a good bit of success solo mining. Sure I'm getting some orphans, but that's to be expected.

I've moved 6GH/s to TRC. We need an "Altcoin Rapid Response Team" (ARRT) to fight off jackasses like this.
|
|
|
Looks like (according to P2Pool) -- the blocks seem to all be coming from: 216.69.248.251,9323
Sorry wmikrut. I was wrong in the other thread.

Neither. 102977 is the last block found.

I'll just say, thumbs up for thumbs up guy,
and I do hope my coins can move again, soon.
I hope the same walter. I'm afraid it will be another few days to make it 18 blocks though What's a few days? I'm buying cheap TRC right now. I see it absolutely skyrocketing once the difficulty fix goes through. TRC is a better coin than most of the other altcoins (in my oh so humble opinion).

The market takes care of most things. Even if transactions stay very slow until the problem is fixed and prevented, high difficulty might support terracoin's price, because it obviously will limit the money supply. Lets remember that there are only about 2,032,260 terracoins (it's not like litecoin that has about 16,490,000 or PPcoin with more than 27,000,000; make no confusion, I like these coins very much too). The price went up too much for high difficulty to be a serious threat. Right now, slowness of transfers is even supporting the price, because is preventing traders to sell at btc-e the coins bought at vircurex. No doubt, when they all arrive, that will put pressure on the price. But many (including yours truly) are waiting that to buy thousands of cheap terracoins. Will the high difficulty drive away some miners? Perhaps. But I doubt that, because scarcity and its consequences on expectations of future prices will have their weight. The fact that many terracoin miners have many terracoins will also force them to keep mining to support the coin. Namecoin has much more serious problems of revenue, but despite that it is still kicking. Most people will support terracoin because of its value even if for more than a reason the slowness of transfers last or kept occurring. If this price lasts, you will see places accepting terracoin popping up, including, for the best or the worst, a "Terramit" and a "Terra Road". At 0.008 btcs, one terracoin has more value than the green bag (1.38 USDs, with BTC at 173 usd).
+1. TRC is an excellent coin, and once this little hiccup gets sorted out, I expect more adoption.

I manually deleted a couple of dll files in the windows\system32 directory. Opencl.dll and amdocl64.dll. Uninstalled the drivers. Reinstalled the drivers. And now it works.
|
|
|
Fresh Windows x64 install.
Tried Drivers 13.3 Beta 3 & 12.8.
Tried SDK version 2.6 & 2.8.
Tried multiple versions of cgminer. All give the same result. Immediate crash.
It just crashes immediately, and gives no other details, even when using -n. I have 6 other rigs running cgminer and the same driver setup. So I know it's a problem with this one particular rig. Just not sure how to fix it.
Suggestions?

Regardless, TRC is pretty worthless now. X_x
I'll be more than happy to take your "worthless" coins from you if you feel that way

can we get an update on this could some1 look into this is it forked is it 51% attack are there new blocks
There's nothing to look into. No fork. No 51% attack. The difficulty is just too high right now. It will come back down soon. No need to worry or panic.
|
|
|
I guess it could be an attack, OR simply by this diff ("difficulty" : 66974.93661016,) just no block is found in the last 4 hours and miners abandoned
Hmm... so miners are still hopping on and off depending on the difficulty... Possible I suppose. But even at this difficulty, 4 hours seems a little excessive for not finding a block.

Do you ppl get the trc wallet to sync??? Mine is stuck on "3 hours back" (when syncing the blockchain)
I'm having the exact same problem. I'm glad to see someone else is having it. I was worried it was just me.

Hate to be the legal Debbie Downer, but regardless of the "permission" of your teacher, you're likely going to be violating school rules for misuse of school property and committing theft of electricity. Also possibly vandalism. Your teacher most likely does not have the authority to consent to such an act, and in fact the two of you have now likely committed the crime of conspiracy.
This is a bad idea, for very little gain, and I highly recommend against it.
But do what you want. I couldn't care less, just wanted to let you know what possible consequences you could face if you got caught and the school got pissed enough to pursue it.

Has BTC-e said when it is adding TRC? I can't help but think that that will immediately drive the price of TRC sky high.

I'm interested in everything But no response from PM yet.
