1084  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambling Site Life Span on: October 21, 2014, 02:35:20 PM
I am planning to make a bitcoin betting site.

But one question (for old timers and knowledgeable people)

How long does a bitcoin site operate until it close down?

Give example of the site and its life span. Smiley

Thanks!

SWC was created in Aug 2011 and is still operating in business as the most popular bitcoin poker site. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=40077.0
SD was created in April 2012 and is still operating in business now. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=77870.0

So these two are the longest running bitcoin betting sites to date?

Not really sure about that. After all, I joined bitcointalk in 2012 and have little knowledge of the early bitcoin world. Smiley
1085  Economy / Gambling / Re: MoneyPot.com -- The Social Gambling Game on: October 21, 2014, 02:28:42 PM
Not a wise thing to do.
What isn't and why not?

Not a wise thing to copy the source code. Why Not ? Because, if you build something, and make money out of it, and some other guys comes in and copies that and starts making his own, and starts making money of it. Would it be right?

You obviously aren't a developer. There are a lot of upsides to making code open source.

The owner of MoneyPot can now use the changes ToTheMoon.is made to the code. For example ToTheMoon.is rewrote the withdrawal/deposit system to use bitcoind instead of a 3rd party, Coinbase. This wouldn't have happened if it was closed source.

MoneyPot always has the advantage of being the first and copyright holder.

So if someone used the same code as moneypot, therefore this site already is cheating us. They did this without asking permission? What did espringe said about this?
It is not cheating. Someone can legally use the source code provided by espringe, as long as they comply with the terms of the license.

True and true.
But unfortunately, ToTheMoon is still struggling to comply with the license and as a result received a negative trust from doog.
It looks like a lose-lose situation to both MoneyPot and ToTheMoon.

1087  Economy / Gambling / Re: ToTheMoon.is -- Moneypot in space on: October 21, 2014, 02:21:28 PM
I heard this guy just copied moneypot's code for his site. Douche.

Which is perfectly fine, even encouraged. The problem is that the license is not being complied with, i.e. ToTheMoon.is's source code is not made available to visitors of the site in a prominent location.

Exactly, the source code is released by espringe under AGPLv3, in which you can find the details in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.html

It seems it only takes PerfectMoney for deposits and withdrawals.

1090  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is faucet necessary for a dice game? on: October 21, 2014, 02:04:46 PM
I'm making a simple dice game with php, i'm thinking about implement faucet but I don't know if its necessary.

Should I add it? If i add i will give 250 sat/10 min or like this.

Is it a must? No, a number of sites are or were working well and successfully without a faucet.
But having a faucet will help you get more users, especially for a new site.
1091  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitPots.Com - A whole new game - Low Fees & New Game - Pot Gambling! on: October 20, 2014, 06:56:16 AM
what is the different between 1-hour, 12-hour, and 24-hour pots. ??

I believe the lottery will be drawn once every 1 hour, 12 hours and 24 hours respectively for the 3 games.
1092  Economy / Gambling / Re: ➫ ➬ ➫ ➬ LUCKYB.IT ★ +10k BTC wagered ★ the best onchain game on: October 20, 2014, 06:45:51 AM
When exactly does the site turn 1 year old?

The first bet (may be testing by the owners) was made on Oct 20, so the programming and preparation works are done probably on Oct 20.
This thread was made on Oct 31, so the site probably starts taking bets on Oct 31.
1093  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitPots.Com - A whole new game - Low Fees & New Game - Pot Gambling! on: October 20, 2014, 06:32:13 AM
We take 5% when you deposit it into the site, after that we take no more fees. The winner is determined by the following process:
Say player #1 puts in 10 BTC, #2 5 BTC and #3 15 BTC.
#1 owns 33.3% of the pot.
#2 owns 16.6% of the pot.
#3 owns 50% of the pot.
And they have these chances to win:
#1: 33.3%
#2: 16.6%
#3: 50%

Say like in your example, there are only three persons playing and they have a 33.3%, 16.6%, 50% chance to win respectively.
What are you going to do exactly to determine the winner? Is the process provably fair?
1094  Economy / Gambling / Re: Grab two BTC from Dice site, Make headache to Dice site owner, Real or not ? on: October 20, 2014, 06:23:15 AM
martingale method is good but for me, i experienced 12,13,14 and 15 straight losses using it... its scary bro Smiley

The only good thing about martingale is that it offers you a chance to play extremely high win chance, extremely low return bets. But it won't help you win the house at all.

Any celebrations with the "2 pizza's" your site has as a "total wagered"  Grin ? Or with the 1 year old celebration? (Happy Hour , Crazy Hour).

Might come soon  Roll Eyes

Is there any update on the "might-come-soon" celebration event?  Grin

6 consecutive losing bet isn't that rare, and I have personally experienced 12 or 13 consecutive losses.
Don't risk your 130 btc unless you feel you can afford to lose it.

The newly added faucet system doesn't work for me. I keep getting the message "You BTC balance must be 0.00000000" when my balance is zero.
