1441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2.8 btc transaction fee paid, help please on: May 14, 2014, 08:11:19 PM
I love blockchain.info, but I think that one should have to enter some "Advanced User" section that is annoying to get to for the wallet to *ever* sign transactions with such astronomical fees.
this

The fee should be automatically inputted, or there be at least an option to auto-fill in the correct fee. It's a minor annoyance that you have to manually put it in and it would definitely stop things like this from happening. New users also often don't really know how much to correctly send.

Indeed it is not only blockchain.info. I have heard of people accidentally mistyped the fee amount in Electrum as well.
IMHO, all wallet clients should warn the user when the fee amount is too big, say 10x more than min fee.

1443  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is kraken.com a scam? on: May 14, 2014, 07:57:25 PM
Update:

Just right now i got a response (remember this is after more than a month delay).

I'm truthful and fair person, so here is the response. I think you all feel that Kraken looks solid.

Still didn't get my funds back though.

=================
Hello,

I'm not actually handling your case, but I can see that it is still unresolved. I'm going to alert the agent who is aware of your case to respond to you as soon as possible with an update. I truly apologize for the long delay here, and I assure you that this delay is not by our choice. We'll get back to you as soon as we can with an update.

Best,

Ulf
Kraken Support

Thanks for your alert, and luckily I haven't used Kraken myself.
Sorry to hear your experience, and I hope you can get your money back.
1444  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is kraken.com a scam? on: May 14, 2014, 07:55:01 PM
MtGox was the unsinkable Titanic, right ?

Indeed, it is pretty much the opposite.
Months before mtgox officially went down, people have already suspected mtgox was in big trouble due to the terrible delay in fiat withdrawals and have kept telling others to stay away from mtgox.
1445  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting paid for signature space? on: May 14, 2014, 07:47:59 PM
What are the minimum requirements for selling your signature space to advertisers?

Most of them require you to be a member (60 activity), while a few others have higher or lower requirements.

I'm curious as to how this actually works and if you actually get paid? All it basically comes down to is, your promoting they're services right?

It is simple. You first need to enroll in a program and put the ads in your signature space.
The business (usually a casino) can then get more attentions when you make posts here.

There were a few scammers that didn't pay the participants, so you should better join one of those popular programs (rather than a new program offered by a newbie). Smiley
1446  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Change Location of Armory's AppData Folder on: May 14, 2014, 07:41:49 PM
Edit: By coincidence I figured it out by myself: On the troubleshooting page of the Armory website are some command line options listed, included the one to change the home directory.

The link should be https://bitcoinarmory.com/download/troubleshooting/

Can you explain how you did that? Thanks!

You could find the following in the "Command-Line Options" on that page.
Quote
You can get a full list of terminal options by running Armory from the command line with “--help”. Here is the output with abridged comments

--settings=PATH # Path to Armory settings file
 --datadir=PATH # Armory home directory
 --satoshi-datadir=PATH # Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind home

1447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First steps to take with bitcoin on: May 14, 2014, 07:36:52 PM
Hi all, Im new here.  I found out about bitcoin a year or so ago and recently have been bored (as well as frustrated looking for a better job) and started really looking into bitcoin.  Im sure this has been posted 1,000 times at least but could you all explain to me the first few steps and choices for bitcoin?

The first step, from what I understand, is getting an address.  Is that correct?  How would I go about getting one and whats some choices out there?  Also, is the next step getting a wallet?  What are some choices of those as well?  Side question too-is an account an address or a wallet?

Thanks for the help.

Mark

First, you need to pick a wallet.
Some have more features (eg. Armory), some are easier to use (eg. Electrum), some are more safe (eg. paper wallet).
You need to understand how to protect your wallet then (eg. use strong passwords, enable 2FA for web wallets, make backups).
1448  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Here! on: May 14, 2014, 07:31:10 PM
Welcome.

Just enough time to try and work out which ones I want to go for... Excuse the pun, but it's a minefield out there! I've heard that something with low difficulty might be good to go for right now - something like Unobtanium or (relative to BTC at least) Peercoin...

You could check Coinwarz (http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency) from time to time, to check the difficulties and profits of different coins. Smiley
1449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The price is going low on: May 14, 2014, 07:16:50 PM
The price is going low and stable.

The price is stable now, but it is not going low lol.
Don't forget the price was around $100 a year ago, and around $10 two years ago. Smiley

Will it rise again?

The market price is determined by demand and supply, which are determined by tons of economical, political and psychological factors.
It is never easy to predict price movement of any kind of assets, and bitcoin is probably among the most volatile markets. Smiley

1450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The price is going low on: May 14, 2014, 07:10:39 PM
you just can't predict the price of BTC

Watch....

The price of bitcoin will be somewhere between $50 and $50,000 on December 31st 2014

You can quote me on that Cheesy

Are you sure it won't go beyond 50000?  Grin
Just kidding. Wink
1451  Economy / Services / Re: Affordable Cloud Mining with Free Bitcoin Nodes! Vault of Satoshi on: May 14, 2014, 07:08:39 PM
That's assuming that the price of Bitcoin isn't going to rise. People often forget to take that into account when calculating profit, if you are going to buy Bitcoin and wait for the price to rise you'd be better mining.

With C$ 900 (US$ 825), I could have bought 1.875 btc now (bitcoin price is $440 at this moment on bitstamp).
With C$ 900, I could have bought a 150GH/s contract from you, and it will generate ~1.15btc in a year (with no fees and 10% difficulty increments everytime) or ~1.78btc (5% difficulty increments).

No matter bitcoin price will be $100 or $100000, it is still better to buy bitcoin directly.

That's irrational logic; because the price of Bitcoin changes, where as the fee we charge does not. If Bitcoin rises even a fraction in price then you are better getting a mining unit.

Even at the $500 mark for Bitcoin you'd make more Bitcoin with the $900 in mining contracts, and still have the upside potential to make more on the returns.

I can't really follow your argument here.
How did you get the conclusion "If Bitcoin rises even a fraction in price then you are better getting a mining unit"?
1452  Economy / Services / Re: Affordable Cloud Mining with Free Bitcoin Nodes! Vault of Satoshi on: May 14, 2014, 07:05:42 PM
Plus our hash rates are just as competitive as anyone else, if not better.

I am afraid that the hashrate on PBmining is much cheaper than yours, though some believe it is just a ponzi scam...
1453  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A QUICK READ OF THE NEWBIE README on: May 14, 2014, 06:58:17 PM
What is activity?
  • Increase activity by staying logged in OR posting.

I believe logging in your account won't do the job. The only way to increase the "time" is to make a post in the period.

time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
1454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A QUICK READ OF THE NEWBIE README on: May 14, 2014, 06:54:40 PM
Ok, I have one question. I see that one of the forum rule is "NO REFERRAL LINKS", Is It true really? Because I often see referral links posted by other member in all kind of forum sections?

You can put them in your signature and provide them when people ask for links, but you can't start threads just to post them or spam your referral all over. If someone asks for a good betting site, I think it's ok to use it then, but all over times; no.

^^^ Pretty much this! ^^^

The only time it's really acceptable to post referral links is if someone is asking for a website recommendation.

Ok, so this one is unacceptable i guess? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=609108.0

Not only it has a referral link, that thread also is in wrong section (gambling) and that person got negative trust for being a scammer lol.

EDIT: That thread has been removed by a mod now. Smiley
1455  Economy / Services / Re: ▶▶ Luckyb.it = SELL YOUR SIGNATURE = up to 0.1 BTC A MONTH = HIGHEST RATES! on: May 12, 2014, 11:30:48 PM
The good news is that the campain is still on, and that we got somebody that we trust to run it!

stingleword is now officially running this campaign on behalf of LuckyBit.

All conditions and people confirmed previously in this thread are still valid, of course.

Okay, thanks for the update. Smiley

1458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Stay safe. on: May 07, 2014, 08:17:45 PM
Paper wallets isn't the saferst way?

IMO, paper wallet is one of the safest way to keep your bitcoin as long as you set it up correctly.  Smiley
1459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: transaction hash on: May 07, 2014, 08:15:11 PM
Why were you asked for a transaction hash? You should know that ordinary users have no need for that information, and it's only useful in very specific situations, such as investigating why a transaction failed. If you are asked for a transaction hash for any other reason, the person asking is probably doing something wrong.

Maybe OP sent bitcoin to a wrong address, and is now asking the receiver to kindly send the bitcoin back?
1460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has anyone played at everydice.com on: May 07, 2014, 08:11:41 PM
why they dont have auto bet option I did not found auto bot.

Not a problem to me as I don't use martingale or similar "strategies".  Grin

but mostly love using strategy like me.

I have checked the official thread of everydice. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=476334.0
Though a number of persons have asked for a auto bet function, it seems the site owner is not really a big fan of it Smiley
