1261  Other / Meta / Re: Merit rewards for Signature Campaigns! on: January 29, 2018, 02:19:01 PM
Bad/lazy campaign managers and sig campaigns are a big part of the reason why the forum is a cesspool of spam right now...

I believe the merit system is in place partly to combat bad/lazy campaign managers who are not doing their job.  It would be truly stupid to then give them the power that essentially makes the new merit system useless.

I would say based on the earliest of evidence that smerit distribution is probably still a little bit low.  But given time we can hope that it will be adjusted.  Finding the balance point of making merit useful and useless will probably take some time but adjusting that balancing point to much before data is available also seems stupid.

I wonder if we will see more copy and pasting so farmers can appear to have better quality posts.

Computing power is often bundled together or "pooled" to reduce variance in miner income. Individual mining rigs often have to wait fir long period to confirm a block of transactions and receive payment. In a pool, all participating miners get paid every time a participating server solves a block. This payment depends on the amount of work an individual miner contribute to help find that block.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_network

This looks like a typical shit poster.  Is he now using someone else's material as his own in order to get merit for a quality post?

I've reported this idiot and this one was super easy to catch as his reply was completely off topic and vaguely familiar...  What about someone who's a little more sophisticated about it?  I hope the community will continue to aggressively monitor this as stealing someone else's work is LOW really really LOW.

Simply give this guy a warning about plagirism. That's enough, if he/ she did it again, he/she will put the account under high risk of permanent ban from admin and moderators of the forum.

Dude, I just wasted over two minutes gleaning the Net for some content to plagiarize as a reply to your post above in the name of humor but no joy. I'd say performing said feat on a regular basis is time consuming unless one has master the Fine Art of Plagiarism.

The above content can be purchased for either seven bitcoin, 4 sM, or a Reuben sandwich with a spear of Aunt Bee's homemade pickles on the side.

I think I've highlighted the problem in your case!!!   Wink Wink Grin Shocked Roll Eyes

You could have a point about finding an on topic reply, but I bet such a sophisticated fella like yourself could find something to start a topic with pretty easy?  Hint Hint! Maybe even a deep dark Necro from within??

I haven't seen it mentioned or requested.  Would it be of interest to anyone to have some kind of indication of topics/threads with lots of merited posts/points awarded in them?  Something similar to the hot topic, very hot topic indicators in the left columns of the topic pages?  Maybe highlight one of the pages with different colours for different levels of merited posts or points awarded in the topic?

If it wasn't to hard to implement it might be cool to be able to see threads that people feel are merit worthy! If I saw a thread with lots of merited posts/points awarded I might be inclined to check it out instead of blowing it off.

Here you go.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg28929461#msg28929461

I was thinking more at the subforum level, I prefer to just cruise around a few subs and don't really want to wade through a big old list of every sub here!

Thanks for the link though I will check out the top merited thread link!

1266  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Difficulty Increase what's going on ? on: January 27, 2018, 06:29:07 AM

What amount would you consider to be a low overhead per S9?

I can't give you a hard number bud!  Those with the lowest capital cost of equipment and the lowest electrical rate in the simplest of terms.

It is entirely plausible that in the future bitcoin mining will only be done by manufacture's as they will have access to the lowest possible priced units.  It's also plausible that at some point manufacturing costs begin to approach the unprofitable mark.  That is assuming tech flat lines as well as coin price.

Think about Bitmain and their cost to manufacture a unit.  That cost is A LOT lower than current retail pricing.  Combined with sub $.05 usd/kwh and you can see how easily they could outlast any retail purchasing miner for a LONG time in the event of declining coin price and a prolonged low coin price.  What happens if coin price falls to 4K and sits there for 5 years.  Most miners are betting against that as are most folks in this forum in general but it's not an impossibility!

It's also entirely plausible because BTC has the possibility IMO to go a lot higher in price that we see a much larger profit window for a long time to come!

Until we can predict the impossible we can only speculate and ENJOY the fuckin ride!
1267  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Do you shut down your miners in a lightning storm? on: January 27, 2018, 05:27:25 AM
You guys have covered the issue of a lightning strike affecting the power to the devices - but you must also consider a more vulnerable issue - the network connection. I have seen lightening strikes wipe out entire networks through the ethernet cables initiating through the internet connection. A voltage spike to the network connection to a miner will fry the controller. The best way to protect from this is to use a fiber link somewhere between the Internet connection and the miner farm. Electric surges cannot pass through fiber.

How to use a fibre link? Can it be used in a cable modem setup which uses cat 6 cables? I am not using fibre internet.

I assume he's talking about using a media converter, going from UTP to fiber (and back) is common in the structured cabling world.  I haven't used one in a long time but they even have coax to fiber media converters if you have coax and you wanted to protect the modem as well.

If this is a "home" type set up I would avoid the media converters and would just get an inline ethernet surge protector.  Avoid the real cheap ones make sure to look at ones that are rated for "lightning protection".

Something like this one: https://www.amazon.ca/Ethernet-Surge-Protector-Gigabit-1000Mbs/dp/B00805VUD8
Please note I have never used that actual product I just did a quick google search on ethernet cable surge protection and that was the first one from amazon that popped up!  It is just an example, do your own research as that one is probably overkill for a home miner.

This looks good but can I guess I cant just attach the green ground wire to my metal shelf. https://www.amazon.com/APC-PNET1GB-ProtectNet-Standalone-Protector/dp/B000BKUSS8/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1517026095&sr=1-4&keywords=ethernet+surge
Grounding is not convenient.

I guess this would be best since it does not require grounding https://www.amazon.com/APC-Protection-SurgeArrest-Performance-P11VNT3/dp/B0012YFXSW/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1517028300&sr=1-4&keywords=ethernet+surge+protector

First one the green wire needs to go to an actual earth ground, metal shelf won't do much.  The second will be connected to the earth ground via the input cord.  As long as it is plugged into a 3 prong wall outlet you should be fine.
1268  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Difficulty Increase what's going on ? on: January 26, 2018, 05:42:50 PM
I am afraid with the level that difficulty is increasing it will be hard for the little guys to really benefit from mining in the future. I have debated on buying S9's now or just wait for the next generation of miners to come out and save my money in the meantime. Id hate to buy 20k worth of S9's and then something new comes out. Looks like the E10 is 18Th/s . Certainly other companies will have to step up to compete with that.

People have been saying this since 2013!!  Cheesy

Seriously though difficulty will follow price in the long run.  The reason diff has increased exponentially is quite obviously because coin price has as well.  If coin price was still $100 do you think we would have this much hash rate LOL?  It's not hard to see that the more profitable mining is the more people want to do it!  As it becomes less profitable less people are inclined to mine.  If coin price ever stabilized for a long period of time we would hit a soft equilibrium where only those with the lowest of overhead prices would be able to mine profitably.  Believe it or not the system was designed as a near zero sum game and is working exactly as intended.

The problem is that this motion of diff following price is really really slow compared to how fast coin price fluctuates.  Diff is always trying to play catch up.  With such massive volatility in coin price the old slow train diff just can't keep up.

You can't predict what will happen to diff because you can't predict what will happen to coin price.  What we do know is that if coin price explodes or trends up for a "long" time that difficulty will move with it... eventually.  2017 saw both, it makes a lot of sense to predict diff is going up.  If newer machines are made available it will only go up faster!

I still can't figure out why the demo is only behind closed curtains?  Huh

Is it for scamming purposes?

Or is it to keep in secret that Innosilicon has participated in this miner manufacturing? (see my previous posts in this thread)

One can obviously only speculate at this point but if it is an Inno design or similar situation to the A1 days then maybe they do fear competition, not from Bitmain or Avalon but from others who may have access to Inno's chip/design or whatever.  Perhaps they don't have or couldn't get an exclusive with Inno?

If they own the IP they have I can't see any logical reason to be soooo secretive.  If Inno owns it and has or is selling to others then perhaps they don't want their competition to see how they made it work?

I don't know, this whole thing is so fucking weird TBH and with the limited information around it does make it hard to figure out what exactly is going on!

Some of the signature campaign just ask 80 or 100 characters length and that's only a single line post and that's a very simple rules.

Signature campaign rules are not the same as forum rules/guidelines, but I highly doubt that actually means much to you shit posters.

Can you send me that link of rules? I don't read that part yet... you also do a single line post that's makes you a shit poster too!

I just read this part and no single line issues: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

You are more than free and welcome to go over my post history.  If it does not meet your standards feel free to leave me neg trust.  DT'ers as they also know are free to do the same if they so wish!

As you can see I do not wear a signature and especially not one that's paid for, EVER (to date).

1273  Other / Meta / Re: TRUST ABUSE BY NEW DT MEMBERS.. Theymos should review the trust system. on: January 22, 2018, 03:24:41 PM
I love the red paint getting splashed everywhere!  It's about time TBH.  It is refreshing to see the slew of butt hurt shitposters crying!

Signature spam is already out of control and it's because theymos won't act on doing something about it that people are using the trust system to fight against it because it's the only thing they can do. I actually hope people do keep leaving negative for the worst posters and I people also keep complaining about it because it might force theymos to actually think about what he can do to curb spam because it got out of control a long time ago and it isn't going to magically get any better.

A lot of viable easy methods exist to virtually eliminate the current shitposting plague but they stop once they hit the top of the ladder, why is that exactly?  Why is banning account sales or paying member fee for signatures off the table?  I get that they are off the table but why?

I am left to surmise (quite possibly wrong) that implementing these options would significantly reduce traffic, thus the traffic generated by the plague is highly valued?  For example, on the vast majority of the forum the plague is running wild.  The staggering amount of users here only for a paycheck is sickening. A test solution is to set up a little tiny quarantine corner for those actually here for learning and sharing about BTC...

So if we look at the traffic as "highly valued" then we need to retain the traffic and improve quality of the posters.  As we can see from the current state of things this does not seem to be an achievable goal?  Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too!

Perhaps their is another reason for taking some of the more effective methods off the table.  If we knew this information it might make it easier to provide useful suggestions for fixing things?

The risk I see in letting this go unchecked is that eventually the plague takes over completely.  When the only people left are the plague the value of their traffic will dwindle.

Anyway that's my rant!  Keep up the red paint Dt'ers hit em where it hurts!

I googled.  Would they risk it with PAYPAL?  The seller is obviously new, as is the product.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/KryptMiner-Cryptocurrency-Mining-Rig-20THash-FASTEST-MINER-ON-THE-MARKET-/122908289166

Edit: they may be in very early stages of development.  I'd suspect selling optimism rather than outright scamming:

https://www.upwork.com/job/KryptMiner_~018755c82728dd1e42/

If someone told you that they had a pedal bicycle that could go faster than the fastest motor cycle on the planet would you call that selling optimism or a scam?
1275  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: KryptMiner - 20th/s @ 800w (a new magical miner / scam?) on: January 22, 2018, 01:01:22 AM
No cc charges out of place. Noob is gonna let it ride. (edit - I set up an alert to my phone of any charges are made to that card)

If Chinese mining conglomerates are buying powerservers bitmain is screwed, and maybe us too. Like server blades instead of asic units. If that's real, it's like Baiukal Giants for btc.

Just wait till credit card bills start to show up at you place for CC you don't have.  They have your address, name and a valid CC #, do you have any idea how much they can do with just those limited pieces of information?

Dude FPGA K, nuff said yet?

LOL OMG Bitmain killer these fucking things DO NOT EXIST so ya LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Clearly no amount of logic will get you to see straight at this point, your desperation and FOMO have gotten the better of your logical reasoning because holy fucking shit man what they are saying is literally impossible...

Anyone else reading this don't fall for this really really bad scam, You've been warned!

1276  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: January 21, 2018, 05:49:56 PM
I just asked Blokforge if I can cancel my pre-order and what fees, if any, would be charged.  If Blokforge agrees to cancel my order without penalty, there will be one more first batch 821 available.

Nick at Blokforge got back to and agreed to cancel my Avalon 821 first batch pre-order for a 10% fee ($355). On principle, I could never pay such a fee to stop an order that has not shipped.  So I have put it up on eBay at

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232638317514

However, if any forum member wants the unit, I will sell it for my cost plus any accrued transaction fees.  Depending on how you would like to complete the transaction, the transaction fees vary.

If you would like to use coins (BTC, BCH, ETH, and LTC accepted) then the cost is $3580 (the forum price plus the $30 for my original wire transfer) plus shipping
If you would like to use PayPal there is an extra 3% for the transaction fee so $3687 plus shipping
If you would like to use ebay there is an extra $250 on top of the PayPal so the cost is $3937 plus shipping.

I live in Iowa and will only ship to within the US. The options for shipping are:
Overnight - $150
2 Day - $75
Ground - $30

If interested, send me an email at matt@eematt.com

Thanks,
Matt

A forum member has reached out to me and the miner is sold pending payment verification.

Thanks,
Matt

The forum member backed out after talking to his or her partner and now the unit is available again.

Regards,
Matt

Kind of a douchey move to try and jack the thread to sell your unwanted gear...

You should think about deleting and making a post in the marketplace.
1277  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: KryptMiner - 20th/s @ 800w (a new magical miner / scam?) on: January 21, 2018, 04:50:20 PM
I emailed them asking for more info and pictures or video to prove it is real.

They sent me an email saying that they have no pictures of any of their units yet, and that their lab was busy working on it. When I asked how they got the specs, they said that's their targets.

The contact ("Zy") said that their first chips and PCBs come in the first week of feb. However, they would send me images. I told them that sending a review unit to trusted people here would be the best thing to do.

Haven't heard back yet, except for putting pressure saying the price will be going up soon.

Its not fucking real, seriously anyone questioning the validity of this vaporware neads their head examined...

As was already pointed out the picture of their miner is actually an Avalon A6.

I can't believe anyone thinks for 1 second there is even a .001% this is real, I mean holy shit its a bad scam.

I'll let you know, I ordered one. Supposed to arrive early February. I never heard of these things before, and I've been shopping ASICs hard. Suprisingly, they had a website, there were units available, they allowed me to order just one unit, and they let me use my amex, with all of the awesome buyer protections that entails. They can't really rip me off. Not like those BTC only sites where your BTC is gone forever once you hit send. The site description said 20T, and so did the "profitability calculation" page, but the specs said 15T. Cost me 5k USD including overnight shipping. They expect it to arrive first week of January and ship it right out to me. Built in 110/220 power supply. It even comes with a cord.
*****I do not vouch for or endorse this product, and I'm not even saying it exists. If I get my hands on one, I'll post a thread unbox/setup/demo thing, unless somebody else beats me to it.

LOL Lets ask ourselves one question.  If the product is not real (and its 100% not real) why would they allow CC payment???  You should cancel that CC fast, and let AMEX know their may be a fraudulent company accepting their CC's.  You should also watch you CC statements as you just gave your vitals to a scammer!

Theymos the Forum Admin that runs the Banner Ads on the forum
has rejected the coin BiblePay for being an ICO, when it is just a Masternode coin (like Dash).

BiblePay OP: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2388064.0

Is BiblePay an ICO for being a Masternode coin?

===

Feedback:
"I noticed this time that your ad is for an ICO, but we do not accept ads for ICOs" -theymos

"Hmm, I'm not sure... I see that it's not a traditional ICO,
but since the architecture is maybe quite centralized (with the orphan fund and masternodes),
perhaps it could be considered "an ICO with more steps".

For now I think that it's too close to an ICO. You could create a topic in Meta requesting public comment,
and if there's consensus that it's more like eg. Litecoin than an ICO, then I'd probably allow it." -theymos

Or maybe just call it "time released CO" I don't think its anything like LTC. LTC did not take 10% of the block subsidy. It relied on donations, volunteer man hours and users/investors...  ALL LTC ever created were equally obtainable by anyone that wanted them.

By reserving 10% of the coins over time it looks like another shit coin. Trying to word fuck it's way around the rules?  That's a pretty deep rabbit hole to go down IMO.
