1061  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yay MtGox and the panic buy on: May 15, 2013, 07:16:51 AM
It's back up to $116 already. I'm impressed with bitcoin's resilence. I figured a much larger dip. Still made some coins on it at least. It pays to watch these forums very closely for news like this.

I bet it will dip tomorrow again, but probably not as much, and then bounce back again at night.

As a US bitcoin investor, Dwolla was GREAT! Only $0.25 per transfer and it could be done in one step right from MtGox's website from your bank account to MtGox (you never even had to go to dwolla's site). I'm not happy about using bank transfers now. I'm not sure you can even do them online.
1062  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: DO NOT BUY GPUs to mine! You will not get your money back! on: May 15, 2013, 06:43:47 AM
Look at all the fortune tellers battling it out. IF you asked someone a few years ago if Bitcoin will go to $250 almost everyone would have said NO. LOL Just keep mining fellas and stop arguing.

Bitcoin isn't at $250 right now. It's not even half that. It wasn't even at 250 for a couple of hours.

Don't mine because you expect bitcoins to go up. Just buy bitcoins instead.
1063  Economy / Speculation / Yay MtGox and the panic buy on: May 15, 2013, 06:05:55 AM
Price is shooting up so fast there is major goxlag.

Bitcoin never ceases to amaze me.

I guess Asia doesn't have the same MtGox money transfer problems that we have in the US Wink.
1064  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: if i order 10 000 avalon chips today... on: May 15, 2013, 06:00:04 AM
... is it a good investment?

will they really ship within 11 weeks?

will i be able to get the chips mounted and ready to go within 4 weeks ?

will those 2800 GH/s make me smile ?

will the difficulty in 4 months be more or less than 80 mio ?

will this 160 k $ investment pay ?

is this a best case szenario ?

- good investment, maybe, but only because you will probably end up reselling many of the chips on ebay and making a couple of bucks

- no, def not, not unless you are willing to pay. to get boards made and assembled for that many chips could cost you over 10k

- yes, it would make me smile

- I'm guessing more than 80 million, but I could be wrong

- maybe, but it's very risky, and it's a lot of money to risk

- best case scenario for you is that is that BFL doesnt ship for another 3+ months, and ASICMiner somehow falls apart and doesn't add more hashing power. And Avalon doesn't ship batch 2 until after they start shipping their discrete chips. And you find someone to assemble miners cheaply and quickly.
1065  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How long does Mt Gox Dwolla deposit take? on: May 15, 2013, 05:27:37 AM
Forever if you're going to use dwolla...

lol good one
1066  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinabul is gone? on: May 15, 2013, 05:26:53 AM
I don't think it has anything to do with mtgox, i've been hearing alot about it being a scam for a while now.

I've used coinabul before and only had good experiences with them.

I know they can be a little slow, but definitely not a scam.
1067  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Department of Homeland Security Shuts Down Dwolla Payments to and From Mt. Gox on: May 15, 2013, 04:54:38 AM
Up until now I was keeping meticulous records of my botcoin transactions and was planning on declaring all gains as short-term capital gains on them.

Now that I see how the US govt is intent on fucking over law abiding citizens of it's country, I am less likely to go out of my way to pay extra taxes.

yeah, whatever. bitcoin will win in the end.
1068  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinabul is gone? on: May 15, 2013, 04:38:53 AM
Something weird is going on. It's not like the website is just down. It is simply gone.
I was just on there earlier today.

Does it have something to do with the dwolla/mtgox fiasco?
1069  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just when we see a stable price... on: May 15, 2013, 03:24:00 AM
F you W. and F you homeland security.

I'm beginning to think that the US's AML laws are as outdated as their copyright laws.

Napster and bittorrent destroyed the music business.

Bitcoin will destroy the dollar.
1070  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox account in the USA has been seized by the DHS? on: May 14, 2013, 10:51:22 PM
I'm really shock bitcoin price hasn't crashed with this news. $119 to $114 isn't really a crash.

I wonder if we will see a slow decline over the next few days as this gets reported in the news.

This could be very bad for bitcoin if it is a sign that the US govt is cracking down. If they manage to shut down the exchanges or prevent anyone from sending US dollars to them, if could effectively kill bitcoin. And no, I don't think bitcoin can survive as a currency that exists everywhere but the US. This is scary and I'm surprised the market has not reflected this yet.

Hopefully this was because of some misuse of MtGox's dwolla account when it comes to AML regulations and not a sign of things to come.

1072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So DHS is meddling with exchanges and people are SELLING into USD?!? on: May 14, 2013, 09:55:59 PM
The US government can kill bitcoin more easily than bitcoin can kill the US dollar right now.

At the end of the day, if you live in the US, you will have to pay your taxes in US dollars. That will always be true.
1073  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Now that Dwolla is gone, what is the cheapest way in US to get $ in/out of MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 09:35:47 PM

Bitcoins Direct doesn't seem like a good deal at all. Especially if it costs $50 to wire money and it is more expensive than MtGox. I'm trying out CampBX and I just created an account and the site froze at the login screen for 5 minutes trying to logon. Not a good sign.

I still have my Camp BX account from 2 years, it looks like a good idea to still utilize Dwolla.

Camp BX doesn't seem to have the liquidity for the size of the trades (in the 100's of coins range) I want to make though. It seems like I'm stuck with gox for now.
1074  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Now that Dwolla is gone, what is the cheapest way in US to get $ in/out of MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 09:27:01 PM
Some banks allow sending bank wires online.  I know for a fact that Bank Of America, USAA, and PNC Bank allow online bank wires.

If you are looking for a MtGox alternative ... Bitcoins Direct.
Timeframe: same day
Cost:  0.89% + your bank's wire fees
Minimum Purchase: $1,000

I'll have to inquire about online transfer with my bank (Citizens Bank). It doesn't seem obvious from their web page though. I only can transfer to accounts that have a routing and account number or certain select brokerages. No way I am going back to B of F'in A.

Dwolla was great, only $0.25 for a transfer and only took 3 or 4 business days.

What our other options and how much do they cost.
I know OKPay costs at least 1%. I think bank wires are about $50 or so and you can't do them online.

What do people in the US use. Post here what you use, how much it costs, how long it takes, and how easy it is (i.e. can you do it online).
1076  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 08:27:48 PM
Looks like it already bounced back up. I bought back in at 113. Oh well, net 6.5 coins is pretty good for no work.

There might be a slow decline as the rest of the bitcoin community learns of the Dwolla news. But I don't have the patience for that.

Seems like there are too many interested in not letting the price drop too much right now anyways.
1077  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 08:04:23 PM
Good news is that if you managed to sell on word of this news at 116+ like I did, you'll be able to buy back in some cheap coins soon.

If you haven't sold yet, sell now!

Bitcoins will be on sale, probably just temporarily though.
1078  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 07:48:24 PM
How much does a bank transfer in and out of mt gox cost typically?

I've only ever used Dwolla.

What about OkPay? Is that a better option? How much does it cost?
1079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dwolla can no longer process deposits or withdrawals to MtGox on: May 14, 2013, 07:40:26 PM
This is very bad.

I used Dwolla exclusive for getting money in and out of MtGox. They were great and cheap as others have said before.

We need a US-based exchange to open up QUICKLY. This is not good news for bitcoins. It's only becoming harder to acquire bitcoins now.
1080  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hash Rate Jumps Up 39% In 10 Days. From 71mil to 99mil on: May 14, 2013, 04:19:37 PM
ASICMiner is the only ASIC company that is doing it right!
Unlike BFL and Avalon, they have hit their deadlines. They are doing a great job and more power to them, I say.

It's smart that they are selling their hardware now instead of mining with it.

And even though I personally believe that the price is too high and won't buy their hardware, people seem to be going crazy for them.

I think we don't have to worry because Avalon and BFL will get their acts together and catch up, especially when the hundreds of thousands of Avalon chips are shipped. ASICMiner will stay have a healthy chunk of the mining power out there, but there will be plenty of competition.

Disclosure: I own ASICMiner shares, I also have BFL machines and Avalon chips on pre-order.
