61  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: April 02, 2020, 01:42:07 PM
all technical stuff aside (that is way above the very limited brain power i have left) i knew he wasent as soon as i saw his blog byline:

Quote
Creator of Bitcoin – Satoshi Nakamoto.
Eternal student & researcher. nChain Chief Scientist. Lawyer, banker, economist, pastor, coder, investor, mathematician, stats & world curious.

bold and italics are mine.

satoshi was not any of those things, he built something completely outside of that system.

on a personal note, thats neither here nor there, what really sticks in my craw is his claim he is a pastor. as one who has a deep faith, i find that he calls himself a pastor laughable and insulting.

EDIT: btw he seems to have toned his blurb down a bit, it used to be longer and more grandiose. gonna try to find a copy on the wayback or something. revisionist history and all that.

In the UK the term "lawyer" is not protected.  Anyone can technically use that term.

In the UK - Solicitor and barrister are protected titles under law and only people that are registered legal practitioners are allowed to use those terms.

Banker is meaningless. But "Chartered banker" is a protected profession in the UK. It may be an offence to use that term if you are not a member of the Institute of Financial Services or Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland.

Anyone can be a pastor. You can just claim to be one or join a church. https://www.themonastery.org/ordination
62  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Three Ways the Coronavirus Market Correction Could Play Out on: April 02, 2020, 05:15:38 AM
It is no secret that the outbreak of Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on the world and its economy. The stock market has taken and continues to take a massive hit, and we are only just beginning to see just how bad things are going to get.

While things may be bad now, there is a light at the end of every tunnel. Eventually, the pandemic will simmer down, and the markets will begin to recover. Here are three ways this could play out: https://itsblockchain.com/coronavirus-market/

Which way do you think it will go?

The economy is the last thing to worry about. If this virus over-runs the healthcare system there will be systemic failures. People won't be able to afford to eat. Production and distribution of essentials may stop. Potential systemic failure, mass unemployment, starvation and in some countries lots of angry citizens with guns.  Some cities / countries will have riots, looting and horrendous death tolls. Other countries will beat the virus.

Politicians need to work together - otherwise it will be too late. No point fighting over ashes.
63  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Anyone else feels that US didn't take COVID-19 serious enough? on: April 02, 2020, 05:07:05 AM
in hindsight
chinas firt case was a guy with mild flu symptoms Dec 10th. just went to a local clinic and got normal flu meds and went back to work.
december 18th he was hospitalised with breathing issues. it was still an isolated single incident so no big panic.
it took 3 weeks of other people with similar symptoms and then looking back to find th pattern about the wetmarket.
but even then they were not sure if it was some localised infection contamination via food only affecting those at wetmarket.
it was then on january 9th that they realised it was contagious/transmittable that they informed the world

3 weeks from first hospitalisation shows china did work fast.

however UK/USA also knew about it on january 10th.. yet USA 2 months later are now only just making temporary hospitals
UK/US waited until march.
UK/US tried to continue to get people in china back to home UK/US countries thus bringing it to UK/US.

so yea china 3 weeks vs UK/US 2 months.. i feel UK/US took too long

I agree.

It is pointless pointing the finger to China. They were dealing with a unique and unknown case.

Everyone else could see it coming much more clearly. Containing it within your own population is the responsibility of the leadership of the affected country.

Blaming others is just an immature way of dodging responsibility. True leadership takes responsibility and action.

History will write about the heroes, cowards, competence and sheer incompetence.
64  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Does Covid-19 comes from Bat or Because of Installation of 5G towers? on: April 02, 2020, 04:55:29 AM
I have watched a video from an anonymous page, and I wasn't able to remember the exact name of the page.
The Video explains that Because of  the recent installation of 5G Towers in Wuhan China was the reason why The Virus was Discovered
The Video Explains also, that 5g Towers with 60 ghz causes Respiratory Failure in other words NCOV or Covid-19.

Now, I would like to know if somebody here could Explain what Really Happens if, the News was Fake that the virus came from bat or was it because of the 5G networks.

and if ever could somebody explain what can 5G networks cause to our health, it would be a great Help.

Illuminate me.

P.S. The video I've watched recently was deleted by facebook, and Can't be search through any of Search Engine Applications.

5G or 5th Generation cellular is misrepresented by a lot of conspiracy theorists. It is not much different to 4G except that it is able to transmit more data.

Currently most 5G operates on the low band of 600-700MHz med band 2.5/3.5GHz and high band 24-39GHz

Cellural phones currently operate in the following common frequencies: GSM 850/900/1,800/1,900 MHz UMTS 2,100MHz (2.1Ghz) LTE

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_frequencies
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_5G_NR_networks

High band has a very short operating distance (around 1 mile) so more towers are required. 5G is an upgrade of technology and requires existing towers to be upgraded.

The same nonsense was said about 3G and 4G.

The higher range frequencies have been used for decades already for commercial broadcasting, military and satellite communication.

In science you cannot prove a negative. You cannot prove conclusively that something is NOT harmful.
1) If something is not yet proven to harm someone in a properly constructed study - the assumption is that it is not harmful
2) That something is harmful if in a properly constructed study it is proven harmful

Context is also important. Water is harmful. You can drown. But you also need to re-hydrate in order to remain alive.

Covid-19 is an RNA virus.
RNA viruses only have a single strand of genetic material (unlike animals which have DNA -which have two strands), RNA is much less stable than DNA which is why they combine and mutate easily. This produces new variants which our immune system don't recognise. This is why we get different colds each year.

Corona viruses are a type of virus which affects the respiratory system in humans. It can affect mammals and birds. Viruses often don't cross over species unless they mutate. The first corona virus was discovered in the 1960s.

Maybe start a new one, from scratch? That's what I would do.

Also, congrats xtraelv! Our greatest historian here is himself a legend!!!

Nice.
It would be useful to add "Legendary not earlier than:" column.
In that columnyou would find  the next activity cycle for member with activity>775 or minimum date with activity>775 for the others.
In my case that date would be 29Jul2020.

I made a little update, which I was thinking to do but forgot when I post the list. Now those with 775 and above a separated Smiley

BTW We have another truly deserved Legend!! xtraelv! Amazing after so long time waiting Smiley
Took him away from the list and now he is on the OP Smiley

I went through a bunch of candidates briefly, and the only one I made this cycle is Goran_, who’s made it to Legendary from Full Member (when the Merit System was introduced). He's active on the Russian local board.

Edit: Ok, he's not self-made, which is the scope here really (there are x2 more non self-made on their way).

I think I'll follow every rank up to Legendary no matter the initail rank. I not sure if I'll keep this thread or just lock it and make a new one following all Legednary rankups from scratch.
What do you guys think?

Thank you.

Initially I never took too much notice of bitcointalk. Owlcatz helped me in the very beginning understanding some of the dynamics of the forum.
This led to some exciting scambusting with a huge amount of help by Cryptodevil.

Eddie13 made a comment a few years ago now that got me to take an interest in the history of Bitcointalk.

taikuri13 has helped me quite a bit with some of the historical threads.

Despite the rank up I don't quite feel that I am in the same category of OG legendarily like Suchmoon,  hilariousandco, BitcoinFX and qwk.

It is an honor to be able to chat with some of the people on here (many who I haven't mentioned and including some whose opinions I don't necessarily agree with).

Unfortunately I will not be posting much for some time. Despite the country being in full lockdown - the busineses I am involved with are classed as an essential service so will be focusing on a combined effort in trying to beat this pandemic.

In 2008, just six months before the anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto appeared, Wright made a public post stating, “Anonymity is the shield of cowards, it is the cover used to defend their lies. My life is open and I have little care for my privacy.”

Wright once said that he is an “academic coder” who has no idea about “real world coding” but Satoshi has said, “I’m better with code than with words though.”

Wright once said: “At no point have I said that Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency,” and yet Satoshi called Bitcoin a cryptocurrency on several occasions.

Wright once said: “I am a lawyer and this [financial law] is my area of speciality,” whereas the real Satoshi, when asked about how a financial law applied to Bitcoin, said, “I am not a lawyer and I can’t possibly answer that.”

If you believe Wright is Satoshi, then the founder of bitcoin is skeptical enough of his creation’s intrinsic value compared to hard assets.

What could this mean? Is the Wayback Machine not a bulletproof historical record after all?

He will have requested (or demanded) to have his content removed. It probably also means that he has excluded bots from scraping the posts.

You can still use archive.fo and archive.today. You can also save it as a pdf and as a screenshot.

I find your signature interesting because Lauda and Timelord2067 dislike each other. So definitely not a farm.

Lauda's just changed both his email address and his PGP keys.

(and he also removed one of the two negative trust feedbacks he'd previously left for me the same day he's telling others to ~Timelord2067 - Lauda is becoming increasingly confused about what he's saying and doing)

Newbie accounts that appear to know a lot about the forum and have a grudge against DT usually means they are a sockpuppet of a tagged older account.

* nullius doubts that this “democracy” thing ever really worked as advertised, or ever will.

Name one true democracy. There have been compromised attempts but it has always been a compromise.

Norway, Iceland, Sweden and New Zealand are the closest but still are not "full democracies".

Only Swedish police routinely carry firearms.

Norwegian, Icelandic and New Zealand police generally only have firearms in their vehicles.

Interesting also that both Norway and New Zealand had supremacist attacks which have affected freedoms.

I invite libtwits to explain away the foregoing in 140 characters or less. ;-)

Wonder how it is going to go with Corona virus. With people who have no health insurance or worthless health insurance that doesn't cover much.

They won't be able to afford medical care or to remain in isolation so will probably just infect others.

High performance computing firm SGI has denied any involvement with Cloudcroft Supercomputers Australia, a supercomputer firm that was founded by suspected bitcoin founder Craig Wright under his parent company DeMorgan.

In a letter featuring the SGI letterhead and the supposed signature of SGI APAC service director Greg McKeon, SGI acknowledged it would be assisting Cloudcroft Supercomputers Australia in the development of hyper-density machines and supercomputers.

The letter for some reason has been REMOVED from wayback.

Which made me just more curious what it contained.

This is the alleged text of the letter that has been removed. (URL blocked on wayback)

To whom it may concern,

SGI, the trusted leader in high performance computing, is pleased to work with Cloudcroft Supercomputers Australia in assisting the development of their hyper-density machines and supercomputers. As a global leader in high performance solutions for computers, data analytics and data management, SGI considers Cloudcroft a worthy partner in the goal to accelerate time to discovery, innovation and profitability.

Cloudcroft’s proficiency in information technology is highly respected by SGI, particularly in the domains of cryptography and computer security. Cloudcroft brings this expertise to the design of its sophisticated supercomputer-based applications.

SGI and Cloudcroft have worked together with SGI’s flagship ICE platform for powerful distributed=memory supercomputers to build Sukuriputo Okane, Cloudcroft’s first supercomputer currently ranked #327 in the world. You can find more information about SGI’s ICE supercomputing platform here: https://www.sgi.com/products/servers/ice/

This super computer was tuned to 939.67 TFlops which would see it pushed into the Top 100 systems in the Top 500 HPC realm. This could have only been achieved through commitment to cooperation. SGI is very pleased with this alliance in pushing the boundaries of distributed-memory systems.

Next we must perfect the integration of Nvidia Tesla and Intel Xeon Phi accelerator cards to reach new heights in supercomputing excellence in Australia. SGI offers both accelerator options for its products thus working with Cloudcroft to ensure the next supercomputer stays green, reaches the highest ranks of the T500 list, and continues to perform through innovation is very synergistic. We look forward to a long, sustained relationship with this highly-focused Australian firm.

Yours sincerely,

Greg McKeon - Director

It could have an innocent explanation.

But a LOT of coins were attacked with 51% double spend attacks that led to losses.

Very few coins are immune from 51% attacks and a lot of the coins that were attacked kept it quiet.

A large majority of POW alt coins are guilty of the same.
