861  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]█▅ AurumCoin AU ▅█ Welcome to Aurumcoin(AU) Project █▅ 2014-2017 ▅█ on: December 25, 2018, 12:37:38 PM

you gave the coins yourself to the hacker, this is not network, no one can withdraw coins by network not even cryptopia.

Not true. Aurumcoin network nodes confirmed payment. These confirmation blocks were orphaned later. The confirmed blockchain transactions were reversed.

Blockchain transactions are supposed to be immutable. (irreversible)

you could prevent this, for sample you can demand ID from any user to know who he really is, you have to do this with fiat money.

You don't have to do that with fiat money.  There is a threshold.

Are you saying that you can trust crypto less than cash ?

So when the blockchain says you have a confirmed deposit you shouldn't trust the blockchain in case the balances disappear due to a blockchain based exploit ?

Because blockchain is not secure ?

Privacy and anonymity are one of the basic fundamental principles that led to the creation of Crypto currency. The whole idea of blockchain immutability is so that it is a trustless system and that trusting the sender or receiver is not necessary.

Aurumcoin breached one of the fundamental principles of what makes crypto valuable - immutability.

If you cannot trust the blockchain to be reliable then you have nothing of value. Because it can be taken away from you.

The attack on network was aware by cryptopia (more than 100 coins not just AU)
your security team did nothing.

Bullshit ! Please list those more than 100 coins.

<snip the crap not worthy of a response>
And one more thing Bitcoin is not compliant with your T&A please remove Bitcoin from Cryptopia

Please explain how bitcoin is not compliant.
862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]█▅ AurumCoin AU ▅█ Welcome to Aurumcoin(AU) Project █▅ 2014-2017 ▅█ on: December 25, 2018, 11:16:21 AM
@xtraelv I don't understand what you mean.
You say that @rossen & @Althor49
Are supposed to give cryptopia 15,750 AU?
1. Why? This is open source, they are probably not the attackers.
2. Why do you think they have so many coins?
3. Why cryptopia don't buy from someone or give BTC compensation?
Even CryptoHub compensate us investors.
More than 100 markets are stuck in cryptopia's exchange after 51% attack, this is not just AU problem. Why should any one of us your victims will ever invest in your cryptopia exchange?
I really don't understand you please explain yourself.

1) Being open source is irrelevant. It just means that the code is not subject to copyright.
The Aurum blockchain got attacked and that resulted in deposits being deleted.

2) I don't know how many coins the developers have. A fork can be created to replace the ones that the blockchain didn't credit.

3) Cryptopia doesn't own the coins bought or sold - nor caused the loss. Why should they replace something that they didn't cause the loss of in the first place ?
They clearly warn in their terms and conditions that 51% attacks are a risk and that they cannot prevent such an event.

Cryptohub was hacked - that was an event under the control of Cryptohub. An entirely different scenario.
https://twitter.com/cryptohubonline/status/1043163502628798464?lang=en

Cryptopia wallets are not compromised. Cryptopia was not hacked. The Aurumcoin blockchain was exploited.

a)
In order for a 51% attack to occur the coin blockchain is exploited. Definition of 51% attack: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/1/51-attack.asp
Quote
51% attack refers to an attack on a blockchain

Because the blockchain has insufficient hashrate and the code does not prevent such an attack from occurring the Aurumcoin nodes have confirmed payments to Cryptopias wallets and later those blocks have been orphaned and replaced by the blocks generated by the attacker.

Cryptopia didn't lose any funds due to anything Cryptopia did. The Aurumcoin blockchain was exploited resulting in previously accepted transactions by the blockchain being removed and replaced by those generated by an attacker.

Cryptopias wallets didn't get compromised or hacked. The blockchain got hacked and the balances were removed on the blockchain. The funds were credited and then removed on the blockchain.

Other coins where this has occurred have compensated exchanges for such losses since the losses occurred due to a blockchain based exploit.

If you imagine the blockchain like a bank and the exchange as a merchant.

The bank (blockchain) credits an amount. The merchant (exchange) sees the payment and releases the goods. The depositor receives the goods and disappears.
The bank (blockchain) then reverses the credit. The merchant has lost both the deposited funds and the goods.

The merchant has acted in good faith on the information supplied by the bank (blockchain). The merchant has neither withdrawn the funds nor is their account compromised due to something they did.

The bank (blockchain) removed the funds due to an exploit in their system.

Do you think that in such a scenario that the blockchain should not re-emburse the funds that got lost due to their fault ?

b) A lot of coins are clones of the same coins. Their code is neither unique nor developed by those coins. They are almost completely copied and pasted.

A lot of those cloned coins have recently been attacked with 51% attacks. Those coins are or will be all delisted and it is unlikely that any exchange will list them unless the problem of 51% attacks is solved.

c) In order for coins to be eligible to be listed on the Cryptopia exchange:

Quote

Be aware of our delisting policy and your ongoing obligations
Before you list, be aware of your obligations to us to help maintain your listing.

You need to give us notice of the following:

At least 2 weeks' notice of any significant code or protocol changes for your coin, especially hard forks.

Major issues with your coin, including hacks or network problems, as soon as you become aware of them.

Any issues with deposits or withdrawals of your coin from Cryptopia.

863  Other / Meta / Re: I've stopped reporting posts on: December 24, 2018, 02:12:18 PM
I have 1336 posts with 100% accuracy (1312 good, 8 bad, 16 unhandled)
Which means 1312 shit posts were deleted.  Some of the ones marked bad were deleted by the moderator anyway.

The unhandled ones might have been handled in a different way or just too difficult to handle.
You will get better over time with knowing what the moderators are looking for and consider a good report.

The occasional bad report really doesn't matter. During peak times I've had lots of unhandled reports stay unhandled for some time - or forever. It is not unusual.

My bad reports reduced over time so you can easily get from 97% accuracy to 100% accuracy.

Bad reports are only a guide - it is not a reprimand.  Grin

After 300 reports you get more feedback.

According to the agreement concluded when registering with the Cryptopia Exchange, there is a point in clause 9.3 here: Generally, the procedure in which we will delist a specific Coin is as follows:
the market for the Coin is closed and from that point you will not be able to buy or sell the Coin; and
we will give at least a 30 day notice on the removal of the Coin. At that time, the status of the Coin becomes "delisting".
During the 30 day notice period, you must ensure that you withdraw the specific Coin from the Platform, to an external wallet, and cancel any outstanding Transactions. If you do not withdraw your balance of the Coin from the Platform you may lose the balance of the Coin at the time it is removed.
This item was broken, since we were not notified for 30 days, but on the same day before the closure of the coin. What can we, users, do by relying on their own rules?

The coin has been subject to a 51% attack (which is in breach of the coin listing conditions). The coin has been suspended for some time. Notice to withdraw was given and because the wallet is now empty due to the blockchain based exploit there is no point in extending the delisting process.

The reason the wallets are empty is because the Aurumcoin blockchain was exploited and the Aurumcoin developers have chosen not to compensate their victims.

Important warning

Buying and selling Coins is highly speculative and carries high risk. You may lose some or all of the money or Coins placed on the Platform. You use the Platform at your own risk.

You must carefully read all available information, including the risks set out below, and consider your personal financial circumstances before trading on the Platform. If you are unsure about any aspect of trading in Coins, you should seek independent advice before using the Platform.

System risks

All Coins, including transactions involving those Coins, rely on the operation of underlying networks and software. As this is developing technology, the networks and software may be subject to technical weaknesses, bugs, system failures, and hacks by external parties. These failures may affect the Platform network and software itself or may relate to a Coin’s underlying network and software (including, but not limited to, a weakness in the underlying blockchain). You should understand the operation of the technology underlying a digital currency and the Platform to understand these risks.

For example, Coins can be subject to 51% attacks. This refers to an attack on a blockchain by a group of miners controlling more than 50% of the network’s mining hash rate, or computing power, or otherwise controlling the blockchain’s consensus mechanism in an illegitimate manner. If this happens, the attackers may be able to control new transactions, halt payments or transfer and reverse completed transactions. Cryptopia does not control the blockchain or network for Coins and cannot stop this. If we become aware of an attack, we will assess the best response on a case-by-case basis, which may include suspending or removing Coins from our exchange.

https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Home/RiskStatement

Aurumcoin developers were given the opportunity to compensate for the losses that occurred on their blockchain which they have chose not to do (Unlike other coin developers that have compensated exchanges for losses that occurred due to their blockchains being attacked)

https://coinexchangeio.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/9000155990-what-is-a-51-attack-
https://www.coinexchange.io/news/post/64/

No exchange that has Aurumcoins listed will protect against a 51% attack. It is the responsibility of coin developers to protect their users against blockchain and code based exploits and thefts.

Aurumcoin developers response is to refuse to communicate - block people from their social media and blame everyone else but themselves while continuing to claim the coin is gold backed while it clearly is not.

Thank you for contacting Cryptopia Support.

As AU has fallen victim to a 51% attack we have determined that the coin no longer meets our standard listing requirements and has been delisted.

All holders of AU were emailed notifying them that withdrawals would be enabled from 02:00:00 AM (UTC) on the 20th of December 2018.
As our users have now withdrawn 100% of the coins remaining in our AU wallet, there would be no advantage to providing further notice of this coin's delisting as withdrawals of AU would not be possible during the notice period.

I am sorry that you were not able to withdraw your coins in time, however there is nothing further we can do to recover these funds.

Kind regards,
Olivia

 ???Cryptopia Support Huh
"""I am sorry that you were not able to withdraw your coins in time""" Huh? What kind of answer is this? Give me back my money . You allegedly gave 20 hours to withdraw coins? why not 5 hours. Hey citizens and who managed to see the mail? I think it's time to respond to cryptopies. Either customers will prefer decentralization exchanges ...

I sympathize with your plight.

A 51% attack is a blockchain based attack.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/1/51-attack.asp

There is nothing an exchange can do to prevent it other than delist and remove a coin subject to such an attack if the coin devs are unable to secure the chain against future attacks.

The Aurum coin devs have flat out refused to take responsibility for the attack that occurred on their blockchain.

51% attack explained:
https://support.cryptopia.co.nz/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=91fc54cddbfc2b0052d2ef728a961948

Cryptopia is a peer to peer exchange which means it facilitates the trades between buyer and seller. Cryptopia does not own the coins that are for sale on their site and they are reliant on the blockchain developers to secure their coin networks. Coin balances belong to the buyers and seller on the exchange.

Quote
Your Coin Balances are operated by us, and represent entries in your name on the general ledger of ownership of Coins maintained and held by us. This means the Coins in your deposit wallets may be pooled in our internal accounts with other Users' Coins at any time.
Each User's entry in the general ledger of ownership of Coins is held by us, on trust, for that User.
https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Home/Terms#5

Failure by the blockchain developers to secure the blockchain have resulted in the blockchain being attacked.

Blockchain is based on consensus - potentially affected users or the coin developers could fork Aurumcoin to recover, re-establish or re-emburse coins missing from the blockchain balance.

This is something that the Aurum coin developers have not chosen to do.  Unlike other coin developers that have re-embursed after 51% attacks on their blockchain and taken responsibility for events that occur on their blockchain.

Cryptopia was entitled to receive the balances, the balances were confirmed by the blockchain nodes but attackers were able to exploit the coin blockchain to reverse the crediting of those balances and thereby stealing the coins from the blockchain held balances.

Cryptopias wallet were kept secure and the private keys were never exposed. This is not something that Cryptopia is responsible for or could control. This has occurred because the blockchain was insecure with insufficient hashrate to secure against such an attack or code to prevent such an attack. (Check pointing code like used by bitcoin and litecoin in the early days when the hashrate was still relatively low can prevent 51% attacks)
https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/3114/which-blocks-get-to-be-checkpoints
https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/1797/what-are-checkpoints

Cryptopia bring back BTC according market value:
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/aurumcoin/

The volume of Aurumcoin on coinmarketcap in my opinion is likely to be fake volume aimed to trick potential buyers. Those coins may not even exist - is potential fake bot volume or volume generated by the same buyer and seller to give the impression that the coin is not dead. From 29/10/18 till 23/12/18 the blockchain did not move.

https://www.coinexchange.io/news/post/64/

The Aurumcoin wallet has been in maintenance for months and the blockchain hasn't  moved for 2 months. So the trading that occurred on Coinexchange.io during that time was soley with the exchange ledger balance and most likely fake.

Before I see a proof of real mining, I dont believe GM mines at all.

A devious ponzi is hard to detect.GM have at least some mining but it would be interesting to know if all the contracts are covered by actual mining. I agree that there have been missing payments and changes in how the contract was executed that altered part way through the contract resulting in reduced value for the customer. My only comment in their defense would be that their business model works without having to resort to being a ponzi. It would make a profit for GM without having to be a ponzi. With current market conditions it is a poor investment for their customers. Im not sure what market conditions exist that would make it a good investment. Businesses are run to make a profit for themselves. I think Genesis themselves do quite well from the contracts.
871  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam alert : Do NOT INVEST in Genesis Mining on: December 12, 2018, 12:04:02 PM

This was my experience with Genesis mining. It was just a small experiment.

On the positive side:

I was contributing towards mining the coin network.
It made a "profit" in $.

$42 became $120
$100 became $305

Bitcoin price May–June 2016   $450–$750
Ethereum price May–June 2016 $12–$19

On the negative side:

If I had bought crypto at the time with the money I would have had more than double the return. (Even more if I had sold it in January / February)

$42 of ethereum and $100 in BTC bought in 2016  would have been worth a lot more by Feb 2018.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. Even though it was not a great investment.

Look like forum need a automated anti-plagiarizing software to catch these guys. Now they  cannot rank up by farming activity in Off topic so they started copy pasting shamelessly.
I like the idea of charging these guys for raising ban request (refund it if they are not guilty) because after copy pasting, how innocently they claim they did not copy pasted.

LOL anti plagiarism software can have its own issues. As moderator on another forum I got banned for posting phishing links by the automated bot. (Were altered links in an anti phishing post) . Fortunately we had other communications channels so i got unbanned quite quickly.  BOTs are also easy to bypass by abusers. E.g. posting an unrelated link as a "reference source" to avoid being done for plagiarism.
876  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: December 10, 2018, 12:21:35 AM

Yes I agree it’s a big change for the platform and the system. But not to be rude, cryptopia needs to gets more employees. Or at least find a easier system that the member can solve some issues by themselves. Like reprocessing and cancel the transaction. It’s a win win situation.

Saves a lot of tickets and time too...

I am still not screaming around that they are scams or frauds.

Been waiting for about 12 days now, my tpay transaction is still processing. But people get worried when money is involved. Have checked the coin info and the wallet seems steady.

I hope they will cancel it soon or fix the issue.

Regard Stefan.

Knowing a little bit about how their system works I can explain the process.

When a transaction in stuck in processing it cannot be instantly cancelled. It could be that it is due to an internal process that it has failed but it could also be that it has been broadcast to the coin network and not received a response. Allowing unchecked cancelling could result in a double spend.

While one of the admins can answer the ticket and queue the issue - it is one of the wallet devs that needs to solve the issue. Due to Cryptopia being careful with wallet security (private keys & the ability to override transactions have to be kept secure) such actions are limited to just a few of their staff.

The following quote was an explanation that was on their forum before the forum was closed down:

Quote
Pending : Means the withdrawal is in the queue to be processed and sent by the system.  No ticket is needed.

Processing : When the withdrawal is actually being sent, if the withdrawal remains here for longer than 1 hour, it will mean the automatic processing of you withdrawal has failed for some reason and requires manual intervention/reprocessing by staff.  You should open a ticket.

Complete : Means your withdrawal has been broadcast to the coins network and is waiting to be included in a new block.  You will see a TxID which you can find on a block explorer for the coin AFTER it has been included in a block.  Some block explorer may show you the withdrawal before it has confirmations but this will only be possible if its in the mempool of that node.   Some networks may be slow so you should allow at least 48 hours before opening a ticket.

Cancelled : Means the withdrawal was cancelled either by yourself or an admin.

Are people as engaged with social causes beyond being "offended", "enraged" and acting on that by "re-posting" on social media ?

More than a month...

It won't be back. The aurumcoin blockchain got exploited with a 51% attack. The aurumcoin devs have disappeared. There is no working block explorer and the blockchain appears dead. It will get delisted.
That's great news I want all my AU coins back or 1 BTC for every AU coin

Every holder of coins blockchains that have been exploited by a 51% attack due to the blockchain being insecure have been emailed with instructions to the email that they registered with.
