Also the accusation by nixon98 was made in the same thread as the last post nixon99 had posted before the hack accusation.

Prior to the hack accusation nixon99 posted in that thread frequently. After the accusation they didn't.

The account is used to announce the [ANN][ICO] 🚀 AZBIT - Blockchain Investment Banking thread.

Other accounts associated with the project have symilar accusations against it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=397698    cryptotech - hacked or sold accusation

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2527625       crimson876 - attempting to solicit paid comments from senior accounts

I see the posted quote of the PM, but those can easily be forged.  I don't know that there's enough evidence that would convince me to paint nixon99 red.
Your suspicion is not wrong, PM message could be edit. But I don't think xtraelv edited it. Since nixon98 self admitted that is bought account so red tag is appropriate in my opinions. Since your question is about legitimate of accusation it could be verify by moderators. If nixon98 had not sent PM to xtraelv then he can come on this thread with his statement. So he can report PM to any specific moderators to verify legitimate. Red tag could be removed if he able to provide valid evidence.

nixon98 is the accuser

nixon99 is the hacked account

nixon99 admitted having bought the account after nixon98 wrote to his hacked account.

nixon98 forwarded the conversation to me when I requested to see a copy of the PM after I saw their accusation from October 2017

It appears the hacked and stolen account is used by the community manager of AZBIT on bitcointalk - nixon99

643  Economy / Reputation / Re: nixon99 on: February 19, 2019, 04:14:19 AM
I don't see any proof that the account was hacked, only an allegation.  I spent a little time scrolling through the post history, didn't see a gap in shitposts, just an incessant stream.  Nor did I find an address posted or any way to prove ownership.

The accuser seems to have created the account nixon98 just to levy the accusation.  I see the posted quote of the PM, but those can easily be forged.  I don't know that there's enough evidence that would convince me to paint nixon99 red.

Are you serious ?  Shocked

Prior to the being hacked the account doesn't post in Russian once.

Immediately after the hack it starts posting mainly in Russian.

It has probably had more than one owner since.

You'd be best posting in the Known Alts of any-one - A User Generated List Mk III thread...

Four merits for that?

It is not an alt. It is a hacked account that either is being used by the hacker or has been sold (stolen goods)
645  Economy / Reputation / nixon99 on: February 19, 2019, 01:26:49 AM
While crawling through some old posts I found this:

I would advice everyone to change their passwords on this site asap.
I just lost the above quoted account, nixon99. I'd had for 3 years.  I can no longer login.  The password has been changed and not by me.
Bit of a coincidence don't you think.
Yet the moderators in this thread seem oblivious to his posts and dealings.

So I messaged the nixon98 account and was told that he had contacted his old account and was told that they had bought it.

Some of the PMs exchanged.

When I asked the new owner of the account why it was being used I received this reply.

"Hello! We bought this account from a trusted trader"

Do you still have the message ? Can you forward it to me ?

Can you give me an answer?
Hello! We bought this account from a trusted trader

renovations? so it's taken already, a new renter will occupy...

who would renovate a crime scene unless it is not a crime scene anymore?

Or maybe they had a huge income of money from... "somewhere"... and they decided to renovate the place! Wink /jk

Let us note that in New Zealand it's hardly Monday right now, so going crazy with theories after 1 day has passed since they returned to the building is unnecessary (though it's fun)!

Perhaps logic would dictate that the renovations were in progress prior to the security breach and abruptly halted when the breach took place.

Over on the left hand notice how google thinks Cryptopia is Closed Permanently??

Google maps is like Wikipedia. Anyone can edit it.

Right now on Cryptopia's website https://support.cryptopia.co.nz/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=63d85a28db8b974832a664a14a96198a it says Alan Booth is the Chairman and CEO. If Cryptopia has failed to advise the relevant authorities in New Zealand of the change of CEO then I'm sure the relevant authorities will be interested to be advised of the update (some seven months late)

That link has a date on it when it was published - so not relevant.

A CEO is an employee and there are no authorities to notify of employment changes.

Even the newspapers don't get that part wrong.

Nice to see you have broken ranks from the narrative given by the other two non cryptopia employees who are in denial that Cryptopia has been told to say nothing.

Cryptopia is still restrained by what they can say. Both due to the ongoing police investigation, other legal restrictions and still being in the process of making an accurate assessment of the situation.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to achieve here Andrew.

No doubt any videos  Roll Eyes by the Chairman Allan Booth will go there.

Who is Chairman Allan Booth ? CEO Allan Booth has not worked for Cryptopia since June 10 October 2018

Current Director and acting CEO is Peter Dawson. EDIT (Peter Dawson has been Director since June 2018 and Managing Director - Acting CEO since October 2018)

Since Timelord tried to exclude me from the discussion on his thread I've done a bit of research.

While I am still getting used to the reality that I have probably lost funds due to the Cryptopia hack I was wondering why he was so keen to shut down my posts on his thread - even to the extent of leaving trust feedback.

I am on the SexCoin CORE team which was one of the altcoins affected, so I have been aware of Cryptopia's failing security system and their position of shifting the blame for the hack onto the the Dev Team's of the coins affected instead of admitting that they had repeatedly failed to notice large sums of coins going missing from their hot wallets until it was far too late.

(Bold = my emphasis)

https://archive.fo/qgIGn

I have a few questions for Timelord2067

Are you an official from sexcoin ?

When did sexcoin find out that their blockchain was exploited on 14 August 2018 ?

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sxc/address.dws?SDheavoF8rnJu5hkitK8qzZ3mKXF7mfo3C.htm

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sxc/address.dws?Ry9zadfyV8qzmnkc49tVMBisVa59rFo8Fd.htm

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sxc/orphans.dws

How did they find out and what action did they take ?

Did sexcoin compensate affected users ?

How much was stolen and when did they report it ?

When (date) did sexcoin inform the authorities (who) that their chain had been exploited resulting in theft of funds ?

What have they done to assist the authorities to attempt to recover those funds ?

When did they inform the community and warn the users that the coin blockchain was exploited and now contains transactions created by a malicious party that stole funds and orphaned blocks from honest miners ?

Why did they not mention that their chain had been exploited (a number of times)  when they forked ?

Every time a new pic gets posted I think this is about as macabre as it can get but you guys always find a way to prove me wrong. Well done  Grin

And for once I'm not the one derailing LoyceV's thread, not directly anyway...

Here you go. Derailing the thread again....

653  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: February 17, 2019, 10:38:51 AM

As you can see Cryptopia are misleading people by implying they did not have access to the building while the New Zealand Police conducted their investigations by implying they were not allowed access.

As at 22:20 NZDST (09:20 GMT) 17/02/2019 No update of Cryptopia's website. http://archive.fo/cjew4

Archived for future reference.

I agree. I've spoken to several people that have posted there and had their posts deleted. Not shitposts either.

Moderation seems to be bit over the top there.

Please pass to the owners/managers that they have to assume responsibility for what happened and they have to keep the customers updated about:
- what's going on with their money
- what are they actively doing to protect their money

Hiding behind the police for a month it's not acceptable for any business owners.

They were (or are) restricted to what they can say. They were literally locked out of their own building and systems.

While it can be unsettling for the users not knowing what is going on - for investigators it can be an advantage keeping the information confidential. I do not know the reasons but I'm sure they have good reasons for it.

I don't like the fact that for a month there was silence and all of a sudden today we have 3 forum users who claim have ties with Cryptopia, are not officials, but are trying to convince us of... something. What are you trying to convince us of, anyway? It looks to me you are trying to convince us that the owners have no responsibility. Well, you are wrong and as business owners they have.

I (and Lafu) have posted numerous updates throughout the month in this thread. It has been drowned out by people that have their own opinions not based on facts.

For this community service we received abuse and insults.

Cryptopia nor the NZ police use Bitcointalk for their announcements.

There was no "silence":
Here are all the posts that directly relate to the attack and announcements:

I've got no interest in communicating with the roaches in this thread. This is purely for people that can communicate with some decency.
659  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Reason Why Cryptopia Is SCAM on: February 16, 2019, 02:40:31 PM
the question is when will it work again, I also think it will be very hard to recover.
The case of cryptopia exchange is unsolved, so probably my guess is taking a lot of time before it will recover or it will close forever.
Yes, ZN police authorities now are still working on that case and hopefully it will solve because a lot of traders suffer on their loss due to that exchange.

I don't know which decentralized exchange now we trusted for, hence, they also have a possibility of scam prone. My question is, what exchange next? HitBTC? as I noticed shitty exchange having scam exit.

There some development on the case as reported. And NZ authorities have given the go signal that the exchange can resume their operations. But it seems Cryptopia remains offline as of this time. And hinting from the report, it seems that NZ has cleared Cryptopia of any internal malpractices to say the least

https://cointelegraph.com/news/new-zealand-police-say-cryptopia-is-ready-to-resume-trading-but-platform-remains-offline

While the police has just given them back their buildings it does not mean they can just start trading again. It would be quite reckless to just throw the doors open without doing a proper security review of everything.  There will be quite a lot of work for them to do on their site to ensure safe trading can occur.
As you can imagine - during the investigation there was no staff working on the site (other than to assist the police) and they had no access to their building - now that they do have access to their building they will have to assess the situation and make changes. The police focuses on the preservation of evidence and finding the perpetrator - but the police don't fix the website or whatever cause the breach.
They will also need to prepare for an exodus. There will be quite a few people that will withdraw their funds from the exchange. Times like this remind that it is important to only keep funds necessary for trading on an exchange.

I don't know which decentralized exchange now we trusted for, hence, they also have a possibility of scam prone.

Decentralized exchanges and exchanges with questionable jurisdictions are more risky.  Who are the owners ? Who will investigate ? Who will be held responsible ? At least with a licensed exchange there will be some required standards of care and accountability.
660  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: February 16, 2019, 12:50:37 PM
Other exchanges might be operating in a less regulated market.

Cryptopia is a registered company that is licensed with the FMA.

When Cryptopia reported the breach to the police and other authorities they stepped in and took control.

This is because the authorities view this breach involving other peoples assets - not just Cryptopia.

New Zealands Authorities consider a breach of this value a very serious crime.

While Cryptopia assisted the authorities as much as possible they did not control the investigation and were not able to use their premises.

Since Friday they have been able to enter their premises again uninhibited but do not yet have control of everything. (Some of their equipment is still under the control of the authorities)

Quote
"Cryptopia management have full access to their facilities and business premises and the Police investigation is not preventing their business from getting up and running again."

This doesn't mean that they can just turn on their website and start trading again. They have to assess the risks and safeguard the assets.

Quote
the Police investigation is not preventing their business from getting up and running again
means that before this time their business was specifically prevented from running by the NZ Police while they conducted a forensic investigation.

It doesn't mean they can just instantly turn on the site and start trading. They also will need some time to make a proper assessment.

Cryptopia works in a regulated environment and has procedures to follow and authorities other than the police to satisfy.

The identities of the founders, CEO and some of the staff are public knowledge. The accusations in this case that are being made are towards some of the victims of this crime rather than the criminals that perpetrated it.

To be honest it disgusts me how some people act on this forum. Anonymity seems to bring out the worst in some people. If you want to make baseless accusations then at least be brave enough to attach your real name to it.

I have attempted to keep the community updated. As I have said many times before - I do not work for Cryptopia - I do have a role there as a volunteer moderator. I got that role after I was particularly active in identifying phishing scams and other threats that could result in users losing funds.

I don't appreciate the insults and abuse and has resulted in a number of people being added to my ignore list.
