2403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Measure Value in Infrastructure Development not Price on: June 10, 2013, 04:32:54 PM
In the speculation threads people are crying over the drop in price as though 'this is the end'. I'd like to point out that while Bitcoin might have been driven primarily by speculation in the early days, that has changed significantly. At this point, Bitcoin infrastructure development (ASIC's, Services, Conferences, Technology,etc...) is growing at an ever increasing rate. This is how those nervous Bitcoin holders should be pricing the Bitcoins in their hands. The 'machine' of Bitcoin is getting only larger, more international, more decentralised.

Measure the value of a Bitcoin by the infrastructure and people behind it- and it's only going up. How many conferences/meetups are there this year? 10+? It's incredible. I couldn't be more excited.

I completely agree with you.
If yesterday bitcoin was $120 and today is $85 is just stupid value, since it is still the same.
Is better just to forget the short time value, and start developing and spreading the word.
2404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bring bitcoin into high end/special sales on: June 10, 2013, 04:30:55 PM
Because of the existing of fiat money, even if every merchant accept bitcoin, it still does not make it popular, since the typical people don't have bitcoin and there are lots of hassle to get it

To increase the interest of bitcoin, there must be some products exclusively sold only for bitcoin, and those products should be in the high end segment. In this way, some specific consumer will try to get bitcoin, that will make bitcoin a little bit special

I'm implementing this idea in my business now: For most of my products, I accept both bitcoin and fiat payment, but for some special product of very high quality, I only accept bitcoin exclusively. In this way, my normal sale will not be affected, and some user would still have motivation to use bitcoin

Hign end does not necessarily mean expensive, but it should be unique and special, with limited supply, like anniversary edition, collector's edition etc... People who are interested in these special products will try their best to get bitcoin

I love the idea. But this is also true.

You are missing the point.

Bitcoin will succeed only if there is a compelling reason why using it is better to using the alternatives, not by trying to create situations that force people to use it.

Also people will start using bitcoin if you give them discount paying with it. But it is hard to do, unless you buy your stock with bitcoins.

Amigos:

2418  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Now Here: Casascius 1000 BTC Fine Gold Coin on: June 10, 2013, 02:05:31 AM
There are 400+ addresses that have at least 3000 BTC in them. If they are stored on paper wallets (even ones which are not made of paper) or in cold storage, they are safe.

I prefer paper wallets or cold storage in something doesn't look that is a lot of value, rather than having 1,000 gold coin (which looks expensive) unless you have loads of money and you don't care about that.

2420  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where do you currently live? on: June 10, 2013, 01:27:20 AM
I don't think there's anyone in the world who lives in Antarctica, and those that do wouldn't have internet access I don't think. Could you maybe back this up or remove it from the poll?
Oh my God, look what three people've voted. Cry

Useless poll, too much trolling. You can close the topic.

Why close the topic? We can assume that who voted for Antarctica just doesn't want to reveal his position, I think is interesting for the community to share some data like this.

yes, me too. But is going to be 50% random.
