2126  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: July 26, 2013, 12:12:15 AM
AM market cap and the total number of bitcoins aren't as related as everyone seems to assume. The market determines the market cap based on what people are willing to pay for it to gain a certain return.

Lets say after all 21 million bitcoins are generated, TX fees have somehow reached 25 BTC per block and AM holds 30% of the total hashrate. Each year, a single AM share would pay out .9985 BTC in dividends. If the market was willing to get a 1% return on AM, it cost 98.55 BTC per share and and the total market cap would be nearly 40 million BTC. I know this unreasonable, but I think it shows the market determines the market cap and there is no 21 million BTC hard limit.

A better example may be 20% of the total hash rate, 10 BTC per block, and an accepted dividend yield of 5%. AM market cap would be about 2.1 million BTC. So, if there were 10 companies the size of AsicMiner at that time, then no one could buy all 10 companies at once because the combined market caps would be over 21 million.

I've created a spreadsheet here that people can play with. It has two knobs for turning (AM hash rate, and Tx fees per block)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApG_UykyjHF0dEU2b1B5ZVZTeW5OY3NLTGRYTW9xM3c&usp=sharing

Edit: Before people start screaming, I know some of these situations are VERY unrealistic. They are just meant to point out an example.

It is impossible that 10 companies have 20% of the total hasrate at the same time Tongue
So, second example is not good. But I get your point.
2127  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER Speculation Thread on: July 26, 2013, 12:02:58 AM
Lophie,

Based on tracking the AM price the last month, it seems buyers and holders of AM stock are now comfortable with a 25% dividend yield with some additives or subtractions for forward earnings potential.

With dividend around 0.024 holding steady, and a safe bet to expect going forward, this yield supports a fair valuation of 4.992 btc per share. Thats not too far away from where we are now.

If we use the average of the last 4 dividends (0.02275) to refine the estimates, fair valuation sits just above 4.7. Until the recent flash crash thats exactly where the share price has been

As AM continues to (hopefully) deliver higher dividends, and investor confidence grows thereby supporting lower acceptable dividend yields given the added feeling of security holding AM shares , we can expect this to support even higher share prices than what we're seeing now.

For now i personally value AM between 4.2-5btc per share. Anything below this range is a great buy, anything above is overvalued. If investor risk tolerance goes up and/or dividends hold at an average 0.03 (i consider this combination as a reasonable 'absolute best case scenario' without exuberance) i'd shift valuation to somewhere between 6-7 btc per share. Thats a solid 20-30% possible capital gain on current prices whilst generating a yield that will almost 'pay off' the total invested capital before the next block reward halving. Barring AM dropping the ball on keeping up with the competition or a severe depression in btc/usd i expect buying pressure to continue

I did exactly the same math, so we think exactly the same Wink

Jumping ship from BTCTC to Havelock is ridiculous as they are in no better position with respect to Canadian exempt securities regulations (National Instrument 45-106).

Everyone panicking is throwing money away, which I'm sure is pleasing to the speculators among us. Stay calm, there really is no urgent need to do anything.

don't tell people that, you'll make the price rise before my confirmations...

3 confirmations never went so slow... I missed the train  Sad

Finally I got some cheap shares  Grin

Just spotted this... GF was updating the apps on her iPad and XE was among them. There must have been something triggered at an instinct level as I immediately saw 'Now with bitcoins!' as the update note Smiley

Excellent news!

Yes, that "Now with bitcoins!" is like buy now before is too late.

2138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: ► ► ► NOW ACCEPTING ORDERS FOR LEALANA PHYSICAL SILVER LITECOINS! on: July 20, 2013, 10:06:02 PM
Someone need to put a coin up for sale on eBay so we can see how much the 1st batch pure silver coins can fetch. I would guess $200+ for sure.

Probably just standard retail considering they're still available (correct me if I'm wrong on that though).

Not really. You need to add like 10% fees paypal+ebay, another 5-10% for paying directly in cash and premium people is going to pay for not lurking on forums.
