1821  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: multiple instances, and read-only blockchain on: November 05, 2011, 09:22:36 AM
do you want 2 wallets, but only one block and transaction confirmation engine?

well im working on a more modular client, that it would be relative easy to get to support 2 separate wallets.
its more like a daemon:

network daemon <-> blockchain and transaction verification <-> wallet daemons.

each wallet daemon would send a subscribe command to that blockchain daemon, for every address. and only receive tx, to these addresses. and when a wallet would like to spend something, it sends a signed transaction back to the block daemon.

the daemons could even be on different computers(using some RPC), for extra security.
1822  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What effect will changing the block size from 32 to 5 have on SC? on: November 04, 2011, 07:05:18 PM
The goal for SC is to reduce that centralization problem as much as possible.

I'd say it's achieved the opposite of this goal.

No, because decentralization was not the main goal. The most important thing for RS was to get 51% protection, and then to reduce the negative side effects as much as possible with keeping 51% protection intact.
solution to the 51% attack: single point of failure.

...so far the singular valid point anyone has made against SolidCoin is that one person is in complete control over the entire project. This is the one accusation anywhere in this thread which is actually true.

Thankfully, it is a non-issue. RealSolid is a good leader ... (jaw-breaking fellatio deleted)

 In YOUR opinion.

A real cryptocurrency wouldn't need draconian central control or a glorious leader. We really should not even be discussing SolidCoin here as it doesn't even qualify as a cryptocurrency any more.

 It's cryptofiat.
it is not a fiat currency. fiat means by law. it is not a cryptocurrency, or at least not a network controlled peer to peer currency.

it could qualify as a centrally controled cryptocurrency. just like egold.
the thing that we want to avoid, wih he bitcoin project, is central control. therefor it is useless.

go away solidcoin!
1824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally visited the SilkRoad on: November 04, 2011, 12:54:19 PM
Why is everyone so obsessed with SR? Can't you get drugs where you are?

yes i can. but not as pure, and anonymous, and cheap.
1825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally visited the SilkRoad on: November 04, 2011, 09:54:26 AM
Of those 5000 registered users, probably most of them make real use of SR considering that they went through all the pain to reach it.
there is no pain reaching SR, i have been there, to see what people are talking about. it was easy.
1826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: namecoin are low, why? on: November 04, 2011, 09:34:55 AM
It would be good to see how those features patch work on the alt crytocurrency first, just like the wallet encryption  Cool
why, fork the client implement your own features... it does not have wallet encryption, it does not even have a wallet. but it supports multiple of them.
im making my own client for the bitcoin network. there is no need to use the satoshi client. im coding my client in python.
1827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: namecoin are low, why? on: November 02, 2011, 07:35:21 PM
oh i see. but is that the whole truth? it is not many small sells, but a few big ones.
speculation?

Meditation worked! I was in the process of clearing my mind from the usual cacophony in my head and it popped right into my head.
GOOD!

I am coding on C# by the way.
DON'T!
1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Password for my wallet.dat doesn't work - bounty for helping me out on: November 01, 2011, 08:00:14 PM
you can send me a PM, if you want me to try to recover the wallets, but i need the wallets and the passwords.
yes it sounds like a scam, but your bitcoins are lost anyway, unless you can fix it yourself.

If in a few days nothing else works I may very well take you up on your offer.
im fine with that, but i hope that you can solve it yourself. its not good solution, to have someone(me) to look in your wallet, even if im a kind of expert on db recovery(tryed it a few times.)
1834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Password for my wallet.dat doesn't work - bounty for helping me out on: November 01, 2011, 07:43:44 AM
can you remember the passwords? else you are out of luck!

i will not promise that i can fix it, but i will try. Smiley

We want control.
And by control you mean trusting a mysterious third party who developed this whole thing, then trusting money changers to convert your fiat money into some kind of electronic form, then trusting the exchanges to not just disappear with your money or bitcoins, then trusting that the difficulty never gets so low that a real blockchain attack could through the whole thing into disrepair, then finally trust that a vendor who accepts your bitcoins won't just vanish with them because you cannot prove that your bitcoins went to someone else (yay anonymity).
go read the source! no mysterious third party, the whole thing is clearly readable.
and exchanges are not to be trusted, and so are banks too.
real blockchain attacks DO NOT HAPPEN, in reality. (yet, and hopefully never will)

all your trust issues, can be solved by reputation. i would never buy from someone that i did not know, or do not have a reputation.
1836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are so many people Anti-Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2011, 07:38:14 PM
But more to the OP, what can I buy with bitcoins that I cannot buy with paypal?  Ok, drugs from Silk Road.  What else?

Not much... yet... but we want an alternative to fiat money. We want anonymity. We want to backup our money (without FDIC). We dont want inflation. We want control.

Tell us how Paypal will help us with that?

Paypal is the wrong example. Tell me what I can buy with Bitcoins that I can't buy with Verifone?
nothing(except illegal stuff, but you could also buy that with cash).
but thats not the point.
The Point is:
FREEDOM AS IN FREE SPEECH, NOT AS FREE BEER!
1837  Other / Off-topic / Re: Successful Test of Cold Fusion Device - Customer (DARPA?) pays 2 million$. on: October 31, 2011, 07:27:52 PM
anyone who have any data on how this free energy stuff will affect mining?
1838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are so many people Anti-Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2011, 07:14:56 PM
3 simple reasons:
1. new.
2. different.
3. demonized in the media.

no big deal.

make the buyer get his laptop or smart phone over to you. give him the address, and ask him to send the bitcoins.
