http works)
62  Other / Off-topic / Re: Am I the only girl on here? : ( on: September 18, 2014, 03:16:59 PM
I always finish emails/messages with x. It doesn't mean I'm sending a virtual snog, it's just a friendly thing I always do with everyone who's been friendly/nice. Most girls do this, if you communicated with girls you would know this! <BURRRN> Smiley lol jk. Even though most of you were mean to me, I'm not gonna be mean to you and call you geeky or antisocial or anything, I just want you to be welcoming to girls, that's all. I didn't even start this thread for that purpose, I wasn't like "I'm a girl, welcome me!!!". All I wanted was to know if there are other girls on here since I cannot find any girls interested in btc in real life and none of my girlfriends care. It's worrying because we need everyone on board for btc to go forward, not just guys. And if you guys make it impossible for us to even participate in a forum then I don't see how that's ever going to happen. Just remember, girls are better than guys at some things, I think you could really do with our input and help, it would be really good for btc, think about it.

if you want to find other females in this forum perhaps best way is making a thread on offtopic board.
iirc there has been one with exactly your subject some months ago.
even if you won't find any females it's still a good opportunity to refresh ignore list  Wink
nanobrain legitimately brought up an interesting discussion a while ago (-> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=341467.0)

please don't generalize this community though.
the majority are nice people but as always the offensive ones get the most attention. Just use ignore function to separate the wheat from the chaff and forum gets much more readable,
besides life is too short to spend any energy on illuminating some trolls or outdated cavemen.

with every bubble came a flood of new users and when you've seen 4chan or reddit you will have a slight idea of the huge variety of personas that appeared with that.
mentioning that you're female is always met with distrust and naturally considered as bait in a userbase where majority is male, hetero and got used to scammers.
btw stuff like r/girlsgonebitcoin and history of several supposedly female users in here manifested the golddigger prejudice even more.

As far as i'm concerned i couldn't care less about any users' gender, to a part it's all virtual roleplaying where genders fade to grey and you can be whoever you want...heh, we even have a penguin on wallobserver thread  Cheesy

tl;dr
mention your gender to find other females or if it adds new perspective to a thread/discussion, apart from that disregard it and don't feel too offended if some threads turn to bar-room level. (in severe cases just report it to the mods)
63  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now might be a bad time for newbies to buy BTC on: September 18, 2014, 12:50:10 AM
Better advice for some might be:

Only invest what you want to lose  Cheesy

but you will never loose by simple holding strategy.
you'll only loose fiat when selling your coins lower than you bought them.
64  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Few questions about this forum on: September 17, 2014, 10:20:18 PM
Wow you stalker, you dug through my 2013 posts, bravo!

Like I said, I wasn't very active back then, there were only a few posts about armory or mining.

My grammar inconsistencies are quite minor when you compare them to most of the posters here.

Perhaps it's because this is an international forum with users of every age and many are not native speakers?
65  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now might be a bad time for newbies to buy BTC on: September 17, 2014, 09:51:42 PM
hmm...imo this thread lacks the usual advice:

only invest what you can afford to loose!.
66  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: never understood bitcoin mining on: September 17, 2014, 09:13:08 PM
hey OP,
check out documentary thread,
you will find a lot of useful vids that explain all the fundamentals of bitcoin.

imo best in-depth vid is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx9zgZCMqXE
(20min)
67  Other / Off-topic / Re: Am I the only girl on here? : ( on: September 17, 2014, 09:04:18 PM
If I was a girl I Would post pics of myself naked for BTC, its that fucking easy if you have a good body.
Meanwhile as a man I have no fucking other ways to own BTC beyond risking my hard earned fiat money. T...thank you bitcoin.

Stop being an idiot, don't objectify women. Women are important both inside and outside the crypto communities. The success of the payment protocol and further adoption relies on it.
+1

woman already represent a big if not the biggest part as a target group in ecommerce sector. (lol, now i'm also objectifying woman  Cheesy)
Some geeks buying food, soft/hardware and drugs is nice but it needs much more to grow the community.

btw welcome to the forum OP, hope you feel comfortable in here.
be aware of scammers and don't mention your gender on speculation board, sometimes testosterone driven traders tend to react a bit rough Wink
68  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how does it bitcoin work? on: September 17, 2014, 08:20:44 PM
here's a really good in-depth vid regarding OP's question.

"How Bitcoin Works Under the Hood"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx9zgZCMqXE

you can find more explanatory vids and much more on documentary thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268955.0

edit: heh, just read title and not the actual question...

What can  bitcoin do? How do you make it become a money making machine?
lol...
ehm yea
perhaps make a startup
1. IPO
2. ??
3. Profit

 Grin

anyway, perhaps the vids can give you an answer...

72  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: September 14, 2014, 07:56:44 PM
I really don't play any games anymore. But I stumbled upon the RollerCoaster Tycoon subreddit /r/rct on reddit the other day. Brought back so many memories, I really should take some time and give it another try, loved to build those parks as a kid!

I got hooked on Theme Park by Peter Molyneux in my youth and sunk so many hours in Rollercoaster Tycoon, both were really good games.
iirc the successor will be released in 2015.

I play mostly Bethesda games. I like RPGs such as the Elder Scrolls and the Fallout series. I play them on Xbox 360 but I am planning on building a PC simply because of the modding capabilities.
if you want to play Skyrim with modded HD-Textures-Packs be sure to throw a good graphicscard with 4GB Ram (or more) in your system.
looks absolutely stunning with the visual mods on http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/
can't wait until GTA V is finally released and the community enhances the shit out of it.
