281  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: January 29, 2014, 10:08:51 PM
Update

The updates of the chips can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=438359.0

ASICMiner is not affiliated with AntMiner in any forms of shareholding, technical sharing or business partnership.

The tapout date is pulled back to early Feburary due to further modifications for robustness and stability, but mass delivery date is still March.
may i chime in:
thanks for the update friedcat, keep up the good work (looks really promising)
oh...and by the way

edit: time to proudly wear my fc shirt more often  Cheesy
282  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: January 26, 2014, 09:46:27 AM
Didn't even know they had a facebook page, lol

Not sure how much they are planning on selling to end users to be honest, but who knows anything about their plans these days.

When does Chinese New Year end officially?

afaik the facebook page is the only remaining official web presence. (asicminer.co & asicminer.info is down since a while now)
chinese year ends 31st January, let's see what the year of the horse has up its sleeves for the cat.
283  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: January 26, 2014, 07:54:17 AM
How about this for idle speculation. FC started getting worried that everyone was a spy from a competing mining company and felt that he could trust no one. Hence the drop in communication. Maybe gen2 chip designs were indeed stolen and the paranoia is justified. I could see myself going slowly crazy this way in his position.

former business partners or team members taking AM's design and selling products with new chips under another name.
not to forget Bitmain's no-preorder policy (what a coincidence  Lips sealed):
Quote
We created a myth in bitcoin community: no pre-orders, shipping on time, even pre- shipping.  We are earning more and more trust from worldwide customers.
...created a myth...more and more trust...welcome to AM's business model - oh the irony

well, sounds not too much like scraping the bottom of an empty barrel in my ears.
this whole mining business is like the goldrush all over again and a lot of shenanigans are going on as seen with other companies.

after chinese new year and (hopefully) successful tapeout it's defintively time for a board meeting with Q&A and an update to all shareholders to get back to old strengths and shed some light on these assumptions & future plans for 2014.
to quote fc's words:
PR & Communications
We understand that transparency and communication to shareholders and the public needs improvement. We are in the process of identifying a dedicated employee for this. We will issue bi-weekly reports for shareholders and improve response time for questions.

while being in this doubtful mood i have to add it once again:
if AM plans on selling branded products for the endconsumer market on a larger scale in the future,
with growing competition the lack of a website is really starting to disappoint me.
(bitmain, knc, cointerra...every company has a site with shopsystem and partly a support forum while by contrast AM relies on scattered resellers, a facebook page and bitcointalk threads. as long as it works that way...good, but for how long?).

oh and by the way, what happened to the planned Blockchain-based exchange?

nice...thanks for the summary, but could you split it up to several pages?
my waterfox keeps freezing when i open it. (old quad, 8GB RAM)
I may do something like that. Or resample the images to smaller size to save space (that would likely kill the animations though).
Only if it's not too much effort. (you've already done this thread a great favor with the creation of almighty chartbuddy)
I'm sure i wouldn't be the only one to throw a tip in the jar.  Wink

289  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mystery Chart Says to Buy Btc now and sell in ~115.2 Days on: January 20, 2014, 02:08:25 AM
The Mystery Chart has become a bit of an obsession with me.

I am now applying these time cycles to many charts.

Today I found an odd timing pattern where 2x the major low to major low period of the recent "bubble" interests the date where the major downtrend line from the double top meets the $1000 Bitstamp significant resistance. It's easier to understand on the chart.

Hey nice work, what's your TV user?

Would you mind sharing or publishing the final TV chart?

if i may chime in:
https://www.tradingview.com/u/Gordon%20Geeko/#published-charts

i'm still more lurking and learning about TA, but sir lagsalot's charts are some of the most interesting i've seen so far on tradingview.
big thanks from my side here and keep it coming.

Update by the producer Ben Bledsoe on the delay of "Rise and Rise of Bitcoin":
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1vig6b/what_happened_to_the_bitcoin_documentary/

According to the comment they signed up with one of the top documentary film sales representatives in LA
and rework the whole thing for better quality to reach a wider audience.
Let's see what comes out of it...

Update on "Life on Bitcoin":

291  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: January 18, 2014, 09:06:45 PM
Considering the current environment in China, I would suspect FC would like to stay out of the public eye. This is probably one of those occasions when no news is good news.

from which city is fc operating?
if i recall correctly the reported mining farm with the liquid cooling is assumed to be located in HongKong area (i think someone found it on google maps).
with HK as financial centre in that area with special economic status i feel quite confident coming regulations could play out a bit softer there.

shenzhen is china not HK... you can catch a subway train there, it is very close to HK but you still need a passport to cross the border from HK to Shenzen..

as I understand it Shenzen is a special economic zone but it still subject to all the laws and regulations of mainland china.

thanks for the info.
the special economic status could still present some advantages in regards of regulation,
or am i wrong with that assumption?
just read through some articles from wikipedia and newspapers concerning this subject and tried to figure out if there is any benefit to this location.

edit:
The reported liquid cooling mining farm is still in HK! AM's operations are (were) based in Shenzhen though.
ah...yea that kinda makes sense...shenzen for production, hk for mining.
292  Other / Meta / Re: Should Proudhno be BANNED From Speculation Forum? on: January 18, 2014, 09:16:33 AM
proudhon has in a way perfected the art of preventive counter-trolling.
i assume his intention is to desensitize unexperienced trader's liability to news fud & blindly following crowd behaviour.
seems like an interesting (and quite amusing) approach.

so please...

short update with two new entries to the list:

Bitcoin Myths Exposed! - A Conversation with Erik Voorhees(
Interview by Stefan Molyneux

and a vid series with Andreas M. Antonopoulos at L.A. Bitcoin Meetup (cohost of Let's Talk Bitcoin):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUuU4nSRTVg&list=PLbSdnuFOLV4nMiQG9gvPBX_VQUf6E4COM
Personally i don't agree to some of his points, but it's still a good presentation.
295  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2014, 01:50:18 AM
On Gox during moments when the price could go either way there are a lot of buys/sells for .01 bitcoin going on, which to me looks bot generated.
Are these people all using the same bot? If so anyone know which one it is?
i'm no expert in that regard so i don't know what bot they use.
only one that was mentioned once in a while here is butter-bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=197175.0)

296  Economy / Speculation / Re: Taobao (China's version of Ebay) bans bitcoin mining hardware on: January 08, 2014, 06:52:10 PM
Does anyone qualified know whether the "Bitcoin mining" ban refers to Taobao only or whether it is an order from the PBOC to the whole of China?

I looked at it in Google Translate yesterday, but it looked unclear to me. It would surprise me if they really banned Bitcoin mining nationally.

Blitz , I wondered for one month , why the hell we have a Chinese subforum when we can't  get any accurate translation or news of what is happening there.
After the first announce in early December it took almost a week to get a poorly translated text which didn't clear anything.

+1

would be really good to have some trustable users from chinese subforum who could shed light on what's going in china on a regular basis.
i saw the same problem on AsicMiner thread when a chinese interview with friedcat took quite some time until it appeared there.
unfortunately it seems to me there are rarely chinese users on the english forum, at least we get updates like this one from time to time
which recalibrate the perspective on the current situation there.
297  Economy / Speculation / Re: China bans bitcoin mining hardware on: January 07, 2014, 03:46:03 PM
Is this true? What does this mean to ASICMINER?
i suppose not much atm.
afaik AM never directly relied on taobao, probably only merchants from the group buys sold products there.
imo taobao just goes the safest way here as even the big players don't seem to know how strict governmental regulation will be after january deadline.

What a stupid FUD.  If ebay, an US company,  banned bitcoin miner trading, does it mean the US banned bitcoin miner?
+1
@OP: please change thread title...it's totally misleading.
298  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: January 07, 2014, 03:03:27 PM
So what is ASICminer's board view on that mess in China?

Code:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1umcj8/taobao_prohibits_bitcoin_and_perhiperals_trading/

Quote
Background
In order to follow the notice previously issued by the central banks, the central banks require third party payment system to stop the trading of Bitcoin Litecoin etc. (The notice issued by PBC at 12/5)
Details
Include but not limit to
Bitcoin Litecoin Quark Infinitycoin Pennycoin PPCoin Namecoin... etc cryptos
Bitcoin or other cryptos' mining tutorial, strategies
Software or hardware for mining Bitcoin or other cryptos

there's big enough market for mining hardware out of China...
and it's "just" the chinese version of ebay. i'm sure there are still plenty of alternative platforms in china to sell products.
imo taobao just wants to have a clean slate until government announces further steps of regulation after the 31st january deadline.
