461  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Recycle Antminer As Home Heater on: February 03, 2023, 09:37:41 PM
Has anyone done this on s19 models?

No and it won't be for a long while.  Unless you want to have a "space heater" that even downclocked using 2000-2500W of 220V power that still requires a deafening fan from both the PSU and miner itself at your feet.  This is for old gear that you aren't trying to get massive hashrates.

If we go by factory specs (3300W) a single hashboard would be about 1100W, so its not impossible. With decent firmware you can probably lower it a bit more. Of course those PSUs i don't think work at all with 120V so in American electric type countries you would need to plug to the a/c dryer range whatever circuit that brings 208V~240V (2 hots from 2 phases).

My guess is that two fans in a pusher config (like the S15) should do. How loud? needs to be tested...

The PSU will be underused, so maybe you can remove or disconnect two of the little noisy fans as well. Of course you could still remove all fans and do the larger and slower inline duct fan method.

I also see it as an attack which is only beginning. Devs should find a way to prevent further spam attacks like this, or make it expensive to spammers.

I have seem a digital rendition of a bitcoin coin with these words:

LIBERTAS * AEQUITAS * VERITAS
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which countries do you think this year will adopt Bitcoin as a Legal tender? on: February 03, 2023, 08:38:06 PM
Paraguay is currently no go. Maybe one of the neighbors of El Salvador...
465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why running NFTs on Bitcoin blockchain is a dumb idea. on: February 03, 2023, 07:38:23 PM
I agree with kicking NFTs out, that's what the altcoins are for, go pollute elsewhere and leave Bitcoin for actual transactions. Honestly, it looks like a type of attack. This is going to be abused no doubt.

Weren't those called "brain" wallets?
467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I managed to invite 1 of my friends to invest in bitcoin on: January 29, 2023, 08:42:12 PM
You don't get it if you think its some "asset" for investment. Its decentralized money that was not made by the State or banks. You pay with it and are paid with it to gain freedom from the system. Bitcoin doesn't need exchanges, they may help in a transition but at this point its best to simply earn in bitcoin and buy with bitcoin, close the circle and kick out the middle man.
468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Main reason government won't fully accept bitcoin on: January 29, 2023, 01:43:13 PM
The kind of people we have in government are people who always want to fight for their selfish interests,  anything that will surely benefit them. If it's something good that has to with better development for humanity as far as it won't benefit them they will surely go against it.

The reason government won't accept bitcoin is not because it is a decentralized currency,  it is because they won't be able to print it like they print fiat  to steal as much as they can .

If bitcoin is something the government can manipulate to steal public fund they would accept it even before now without any delay.

It doesn't matter, Bitcoin was made to work with or without their support. Luckily even a couple of countries adopted it officially as legal tender and many more as some sort of asset value. It is a rotund worldwide success. Only about 16 fools banned it, and its probably used in those countries anyway since they can't stop it, just make it more cumbersome forcing people underground. Not unlike a socialist gov prohibiting foreign currency detonating hyperinflation after their infinite "printing" which forced everyone break their stupid "law"...

The rest is coming, more countries will adopt it as legal tender and eventually critical mass will be reached. We don't need no fiat or altcoins. A few politicians or small financial elites should never have the power to decide devaluation again. It is the end of monetarist economics, enter Austrian school of economy, no more trash money designed to lose purchase power if you save it.
469  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Recycle Antminer As Home Heater on: January 29, 2023, 12:45:38 PM
Yes i know (same with T9+), but even with factory fw it was a common "mod" to force the fan to 100% anyway by disconnecting the fourth wire. The PSU i have has the same dimensions as yours but is a bit longer. I have the dreaded adapter that i see you didn't bother with, and i know how bad it can be, you can't look at it the wrong way or it breaks. Mine still works by pure miracle.

From experience i remember some R4s made noise when the fan becomes mis centered at lower speeds but mine behaved well at 100%. There may be at least two types that i remember from memory, some would do 3000rpm and others (mine) 3120rpm. But yeah i get what you mean with silent S9s even with factory fans (one is good enough).

Modern miners cannot be made as silent unless you do both things: remove/disable hashboards and use a low power target. Single hashboard S19 with only 2 fans on one side (push) or so.

It is true that philipma1957 filled the empty space from missing hashboards of the S9 using wood blocks, but i discovered myself that all you need to do to improve the airflow with a single hashboard is just block/cover the excess space at the end where the air comes out, and does the same effect, even tape works like magic Smiley
470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining farm electricity requirement question on: January 29, 2023, 02:23:16 AM
You don't need the J+ for 277V, Bitmain in their usual wisdom does not really market that they in fact have PSUs for x19 family for 277V: APW12A and APW121215g. Newer miners require the later but even the original S19 Pro 110 would work with the first all these years the model has been out... Feel free to ask them why they don't bother listing those. I don't know if there is a variant of the APW121417 for 277V, maybe there is...
471  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Recycle Antminer As Home Heater on: January 29, 2023, 02:04:45 AM
Hmm if your fans are at 1% you could replace them with Noctua or Phantek 120mm silent fans. The only problem would be summer but i suppose you don't intend to use it for mining as much but more like space heater by the season.

Since you are using it like that, it may be wise to add this pool at the end of your list: drain://x (user x pass x) this way it can remain heating even with connection issues to the pool.

tux1975: Lol the R4 is back Smiley
I only have the 1200W HP server PSU, and been using it with a single hashboard, but it didn't occur me to place the psu inside... hmmm
472  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: An honest answer on mining with solar on: January 21, 2023, 03:30:57 PM
Possible, yes. Profitable? Probably. Adding solar to the mix just increases the time for your ROI.

Cheapest method is no batteries Let it stop at night (or grid tie inverter, use the network as battery). Of course, that means at least twice longer waiting for ROI (unless bitcoin market price enters a bull cycle).

The S19 is like 3500W so yeah 4000W in panels for each is about right.

I think you would need to sacrifice half your budget for the solar setup, so if you had for two S19, now you have for 1 + solar.

Well at least the sun isn't going to rise your bill, not sure about connecting it with a grid tie, maybe its illegal or unfeasible in Nigeria.

I'd say its a long term investment. There isn't much to maintain if you skip batteries, clean the panels once per year with a hose or something. They can easily last a couple of decades and even after that they are like 80% efficient so not worthless either.

Batteries degrade like every 3 years or so, so... I don't like them and they are expensive and heavy and you would need too many of them to keep things running at night, really not worth it.
473  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [FUN]Heatbit Is the First Space Heater That Mines Bitcoin on: January 21, 2023, 03:11:56 PM
I know someone in Germany is selling S9 space heaters too. I don't think its wise to run S9s at 1500W, you should use them at like 900W where they are much more efficient. Its better to have two of them than a single one overworked.

The thing with L3+ is that 4 hashboards need even more wires and those fault prone mini-fit 6p molex plugs, so it isn't as easy. S9s appear to be sold for like $50 and some people even give them away for free, so compare that with purchasing a 900W space heater, which doesn't even mine.

The rest is just putting it inside something that doesn't look ugly. I know someone removed the fans and used a single inline duct fan instead, making it much more silent. Hmm i think its this one. Now imagine that inside some cylinder or box.

A modern ASIC space heater makes sense, but you would need to remove/disable hashboards. It also won't be useful with 120V, i don't think those PSUs like the low voltage. I think a single hashboard S19 would take about 1100W. I bet the trick would be buying one cheap with damaged hashboards, that has at least one working, and you definitely won't need 4 fans for that...
474  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Stealth mining on: January 21, 2023, 02:04:25 PM
Are you sure the vpn server is closest to Singapore?

Kano seems to be confusing pool with firmware again...

If you trust Braiins you just need to use V2 (only) and its encrypted, instead of clear text v1 which tells everyone what you mine and where.
Of course you also want to obfuscate your DNS queries, so install dnscrypt-proxy in your lan and use that as your DNS.

Remember that the VPN server knows who you are, and with V1 everything between that and the pool is in the clear for anyone to see.

Don't worry, i can tell you where else the miner is connecting (drumroll): it connects to Braiins Pool using V2 for the dev fee. We can provide you a list of domain names for whitelisting in case you need (pm), you can block everything else.

Now if Kano added V2 to kanominer and kanopool, his comments would be moot. There is an independent (Not Braiins) open source reference implementation and all...

Nadie.

477  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Better efficiency coming to your S19 from Bitmain on: January 20, 2023, 02:51:01 PM
Because presets are no magic shortcuts, they produce a common average result at best. Tailored for your specific miner can only be achieved one way... But at least they restored the "low power" function which is better than nothing.
