503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Back up my blockchain data on: January 02, 2023, 03:01:21 PM
Yeah, unfortunately you need the space to keep the whole blockchain and if you prune it it does the opposite: Only the latest blocks remain. Ideally you should have the space to hold that blockchain like a 1tb hard drive. If your internet is good (measured in tens or hundreds of mbps) you can probably just let it go and sync it again.
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked on: January 02, 2023, 02:40:12 PM
A simple cold wallet cannot be hacked, that is because you write your seed words with your own hands to a piece of paper in a room without cameras. The fact that these coins were available behind a password means there was a huge flaw. It is a shame this happened to someone who should have known better, but remember that is not Bitcoin's fault.

If you are going to hold that many coins, move them into a cold wallet. Its simple, write those words and don't tell anyone. Make another physical copy (with your own hands, no cameras or any electronic device) and store it in a different physical location, transfer the funds and delete your wallet. The truly paranoid learns to do this in an offline computer with a good OS running from optical media so that once you finish the wallet is gone and only the (written on paper by hand) seed words remain.

Remember that you can still do that today: Make a new wallet, write the words, transfer funds, delete. Practice with a few satoshis. You don't need to have those words electronically available behind a password, what for? Please learn from mistakes people.
505  Local / Mercado y Economía / Re: Italia impone impuesto a las cryptos on: December 31, 2022, 11:03:03 PM

508  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS+ support thread on: December 31, 2022, 10:20:13 PM
There is no such a thing. We do not use cgminer. it was removed in 2019 and replaced with bosminer in 2020 made from scratch. The pool must support rolling version which is generally added with asicboost or it will not work. I have personally tested with some yiimp like zpool and mining dutch, if there is an issue with mmpool then they must investigate it. In general Braiins OS has been tested with most Bitcoin pools and if other coins work, fine if not, change pool. Altcoins are not officially supported.

The previous poster seems to be in a compromised network, with some malware or worse. This goes beyond Braiins OS+ support. What good is changing the password if they have a malware in a windows pc sending all keystrokes and desktop screenshots to some malicious entity? The most common mistake is not setting a password in the miner, but that is not the only security issue. The less computer savvy people are, the more prone they are for these exploits.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brazil passes law to legalize crypto as a payment method on: December 22, 2022, 04:00:08 PM
This was actually old news. I was planning to create a thread about the latest news before I see your post. The Brazilian lawmaker has passed the law and the President is what is needed to make it official.
The latest news now is that the Brazil's President has signed the bill into law this morning and it creates a thorough regulatory framework for the country's use and trading of bitcoin.

More like he didn't vetoed so it passed.
510  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Best Bitcoin mining software for linux? on: December 22, 2022, 02:17:10 PM
It does make more sense to use the Gekkoscience's usb sticks as they are vastly more efficient (and certainly more silent) than gpus. Don't forget some people found blocks early this year with Compac F, so you may never know...

bfgminer can talk to S9? Well either way for other hardware you would need to add support yourself. Hmm i wonder what is being used with the new Intel asics... ckpool/ckproxy code has been available for years.

Braiins OS+ S19j Pro T104 puesta a 1616W midió 1343W DPS escalón 200W temperaturas cambiadas a Hot 60 Dangerous 70 fans manual 79%. https://t.me/BraiinsOS

513  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Best Bitcoin mining software for linux? on: December 21, 2022, 04:42:55 PM
cgminer name is fine, it supports a massive amount of devices and has an amazing track record.

If you're looking for changing a name, then your software might be renamed to Antminer:

Supported models: S19, S19 Pro, S19j, S19j Pro, T19, S17, S17 Pro, S17+, S17e, T17, T17+, T17e & S9 [i, j]

That would soon™ make no sense. Besides its called bosminer as in Braiins OS miner.

cgminer literally means Cpu Gpu miner, so it is a very valid question made by BitcoinSoloMiner. The remaining maintainer that did a fork since he was kicked from it; has stated that it no longer supports cpus or gpus, yet it remains in the name causing unnecessary confusion and it is a defacto fork anyway, so its the perfect chance to rename it.

Now you can't simply talk about cgminer because you don't know if its the one kano keeps changing or the previous one, again adding to confusion. So people need to say kano's cgminer or such, is that better for you? I did suggest the name kanominer in the past...

You are also welcome to add even more hardware support to cgminer. Oh which cgminer? Naturally Kano's, what he would say if you were to do it to the other one? oh no no no...

See? Sticking to an old meaningless name makes no sense, but sure, feel free to keep it, not like it matters. Remember: Cpu Gpu Miner (Kano's edition) neither supports CPUs or GPUs. Got it? Easy! not...
514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the nodes of Bitcoin? on: December 21, 2022, 01:56:26 PM
I'm more interested in bitcoind running in the risc-v arquitecture. This open hardware platform is storming the world and its clearly set on the path of replacing arm for everything. Its like arm without the licensing and the industry is investing heavy in it, quite soon your phone and many other embedded devices will be running in this instead. I suppose nvidia will keep a hold in arm so for gpu things maybe, but i have already seen risc-v boards with nvidia ai acceleration chips in them so...

If you haven't seen it, take a look at this video that explains it:

515  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Best Bitcoin mining software for linux? on: December 21, 2022, 01:10:32 PM
... and CPU/GPU mining was removed from cgminer long ago because it is an abhorrent waste of energy.
Mining with a GPU on Bitcoin it utter stupidity.
I still think you should rename it, The "cg" in cgminer stands for cpu gpu miner... aminer? asicminer?
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just lost $4000 because of addresses starting with "bc1p" on: December 20, 2022, 09:12:59 PM
So, the point of this thread was to insult one of the moderators of this forum? Bech32 is a great improvement but this reminds me of the people blaming Bitcoin from a mistake THEY make. Transactions are final, there are no reversals and that's how we like it. That's why you just don't make transactions without triple checking the address.
517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Better efficiency coming to your S19 from Bitmain on: December 20, 2022, 08:50:16 PM
Bitmain released their new firmware for S19J Pro models earlier today.
I installed it on my S19J Pro 104T (has beaglebone board). Here's the side by side comparison of performance between the old FW and the two modes on new FW.

Thank you for answering my original question in this thread, i would have preferred an answer here than twitter, but thanks for verifying.

With the likes of Mastodon, free open source p2p alternatives, why bother with a company that just wants to sell your clicking habits to advertisers and heavily censors your comments?
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to properly store seed phrase during inspection? on: December 20, 2022, 01:55:50 PM
You need to be creative, and whatever you end with, don't reveal it with anyone.

Think hide in plain sight, like a book with marks. Or just don't have it with you but somewhere online encrypted with a very good password only you know, stenographed in some image file, etc..

Hiding a few words is far easier than hiding a stash of cash or ingots. There is no need to carry with you but the minimal for the travel. You can also have multiple wallets just keep large amounts in cold ones.
520  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Better efficiency coming to your S19 from Bitmain on: December 20, 2022, 01:31:45 PM
Could you share details about RPM and dB on this 20.9J/T? Would it work out the box with an s19j pro 104?

Quote from: Sadnudbi
Yes, sorry for not being more concise. Danger temp lowered to 70C, HOT temp set to 60C, fan in manual mode set to 79%, using DPS with a 200W reduction. Created tuned profiles from lowest allowed W to just over 4000W, in 200W increments. Set the target power to the highest power profile created, and let it go.

Please visit our telegram group or the thread i made in this forum to ask your Braiins OS+ specific questions Smiley

I've seen the bashing posts and threads this wasn't meant to be one of them and apologies if that was the way you read it.

Not trying to disrespect you or anyone else here on this forum as I understand the significant efforts and strides you and many others have made for the good of the community.

I'm only looking at it from the business perspective and how I perceive the fiscal impact (good and bad) that may result from this new firmware release by Bitmain.

No problem, none taken. And Kano is also correct, the "Real Hashrate" as reported in the miner UI is not what reaches the pool but 97.5% of that, so it does make perfect sense to balance the features. Doing this correction, Sadnudbi's 20.88 W/TH becomes 21.41 W/TH.
