801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin City on: December 18, 2021, 03:02:59 AM
If El Salvador maintains a pro bitcoin attitude as State policy (instead of a single party or ruling group) it will become the wealthiest country in Central America, and the neighbors will have no choice but to try get a piece of the pie by going pro bitcoin.

I'm only worried that if the Bukele party stops being in power the others would adopt the opposite attitude out of revenge. That is how our Latin American countries do politics, and is the reason they have remained in poverty for so long.

The people from El Salvador will hopefully see this and keep voting for them, this opportunity is unique and will never return.

Arena and "El Frente" are disgusting and should be ashamed for their typical myopic attitude that left their own country in poverty for decades.
802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Xi, Putin wants Bitcoin without wanting Bitcoin on: December 18, 2021, 02:50:07 AM
No, they don't want bitcoin, they want digital fiat, which is garbage.

What politicians fear? Losing control. What bitcoiners want? to kick out those politicians from manipulating their money. There cannot be a compromise, its either free (as in freedom) or its not.

This struggle is only beginning, but victory is in our side, we will free ourselves from them, with or without their cooperation.

To me those old fools are trying to return the genie into the bottle. It is too late, they cannot undo bitcoin, and they cannot have their world without bitcoin again.

Fear it all you want, and have all central banks of the world spread FUD, this means we are succeeding, and they are afraid, because they have become obsolete.

El Salvador won't be the last, and they are fearing this the most. The future is here, and they are the past. If the USD collapses from its continued mis-management, it will just accelerate the inevitable, people will want bitcoin, no matter what those in power do, even in China, or those 15 oppressive countries that dared forbid bitcoin. Let them see their neighbors prosper while they sink in poverty, see how long they keep their anti bitcoin attitude.

Time is in our side, there is no turning back.
803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin search results spam using DuckDuckGo on: December 18, 2021, 02:36:46 AM
DuckDuckGo is my main search page. I just tried searching for "bitcoin", and the first result is bitcoin.org, the second is, .com...

I see none of these ustradersjournal links. The next links are a bunch of major media outlets such as cnn, forbes, cnet, etc.

If you use Windows, i would be far more concerned about what your OS may possibly have acquired...
804  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: HiveOS VS Braiins on: December 18, 2021, 02:18:29 AM
Loose heatsinks are a staple of the x17 family, this has nothing to do with firmware.

Also, the power limit exists for a reason. If you are paranoid, you should have lowered this value first.

In reality, the correct fix is to resolder all heatsinks before even powering up these machines. Else you enter a roulette. Will a heatsink fall or not? You never know. You can blame it on Braiins OS until it happens again, but then you won't write it here, which is very typical.
805  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: S17Pro will not connect to network after Braiins Install on: December 11, 2021, 07:42:05 PM
I have tried every conceivable SD card upgrade or downgrade I can with zero success. I do not think the SD slot is reading at this point.

You can't do this with x17. You have to uninstall using the bos-toolbox because other firmware does not understand the different OS.

To correct this, install using the bos-toolbox and then uninstall.

Or, install Braiins OS+ using the sd card image, and then use bos-toolbox to uninstall. You can use the control board stand alone.
806  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS & Braiins OS+ custom ASIC firmware: optimize performance & efficiency on: December 02, 2021, 04:04:15 PM
This does not change the boot up sequence, it only affects the situation where bosminer is stopped, such as when someone with solar panels wants to stop mining at night.

When you give power to the fans, before any control is done, they will spin at full power as they were designed to do. It is only when either bosminer_monitor or bosminer start, that they can control the fans, not before.

Because Braiins OS is the fastest booting fw, this really isn't a problem for most users.

If you are permanently using low power limits, why not just replace the fans with low speed aftermarket solutions? Maybe 3k rpm?
807  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS & Braiins OS+ custom ASIC firmware: optimize performance & efficiency on: December 01, 2021, 12:23:34 AM
100% to 50%:

ssh root@ip.ad.re.ss "/etc/init.d/bosminer_monitor stop && sed -i 's/fan_set_duty(i, 100)/fan_set_duty(i, 50)/g' /usr/sbin/bosminer_monitor.lua && /etc/init.d/bosminer_monitor start"

At your own risk...

Happy Birthday Slush Pool!

As you can see in the first post, today the pool is 11 years old.

Hashrate 8.932Eh/s
166 962 workers
16 852 active users
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin City on: November 27, 2021, 03:49:58 PM
This is better than the boat for sure. But i don't like much the part of being too close to the volcano... Its fine for mining farms, but why must the city be there as well? Well, lets hope we don't get another Pompey, tho it can arguably be in hundreds of years, who knows...
810  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Looks like some of the big pools in china are having DNS problems on: November 27, 2021, 01:49:30 PM
To me, this was the gov adding blocks to the GFW, this took them by "surprise" and they just scrambled to change dns.

As you know, when you change the dns of your server/website whatever, it can take a couple of days to propagate to the whole internet. There is dns caching and dns servers asking other dns servers, etc. To some the change is quick, to some it takes longer as it has always been.

But why did these Chinese pools took so long to do this change, why wait until their gov cut them? Its not like they didn't know this was coming, and its one reason Slush Pool dropped the Chinese nodes at least half a year ago.

This was also a good call on people relying too much in Chinese pools, they ignored decentralization, and paid the price.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's up with the flaunting of irreversibility? on: November 27, 2021, 01:30:47 PM
One of the big features of Bitcoin is this.

The answer is simple: If you allow reverses, you are letting someone the power to discriminate you, if you want that, go back to fiat.

The responsibility falls entirely in you. So don't get scammed, and if you do, go after the culprit, leave Bitcoin alone.
If someone makes an altcoin such as Ethereum, where one or few people can decide what transaction goes and what doesn't, go back to fiat.

The whole point of Bitcoin is to remove the power from these (any) people, otherwise they may decide tomorrow to block your transactions on a whim.

Its all or nothing. Either it works for ALL, or it works for NOBODY.
This is one reason why Bitcoin is so valuable, while the rest are not.

The power to discriminate should never exist. If someone is a criminal or not, that is outside of the code, its none of Bitcoin business. Otherwise you open a can of worms, some selected elites will abuse this power, because you are not of their country, or share their beliefs, or whatever.

The whole point of Bitcoin is freedom from all this nonsense.

Transactions are FINAL, there is no turning back. Want protection? Use a mutually trusted middle party, so called escrow, etc. That is your choice, just like you can ask a bank to store your bitcoins and handle them your keys. A foolish choice in my opinion, but a choice that is OPTIONAL, and not MANDATORY.

Reverse a transaction and you will lose trust forever. You are declaring the world that your garbage coin is as trusty as the whim of their creator or dev team or whatever small group of elite controls it or get coerced to. NOBODY can turn back a transaction in bitcoin, not even Satoshi, and that is PRICELESS.
812  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS & Braiins OS+ custom ASIC firmware: optimize performance & efficiency on: November 25, 2021, 03:29:01 PM
In Linux, the folder you are is not necessarily in the path. So even if you cd to it, you need to tell it the path, like:

./bosminer start

The ./ is a path that means "here". This is unlike msdos, and it also needs eXecute permissions which should already have.

But rather than that, you should just ls -l to see if you accidentally deleted this file, in that case just reinstall.
813  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Air Gapped on Windows or Tails? on: November 18, 2021, 04:15:23 PM
Your operating system doesn't matter as much, go with what you think is more usable for you.
A paranoid would say that it matters if the OS is open-source, which is true only for the latter. So, if you're feeling extremely nervous of which option is better, then I'd recommend you Tails. It sounds more honest to allow everyone look into the code.

Tails Linux OS is obviously better for privacy than windows and you won't have nightmare tracking and spying like with win os.
How could they spy on you if it's air gapped? You're supposed to never connect the internet.

Yes, and someone more paranoid than your paranoid would point you to Heads rather than Tails.

As for the air gap, remember how Iran got their expensive centrifuges damaged by malware some years ago, those were air gapped too... Their mistake was running SCADA using Windows and of course someone brought an usb stick one day...

If you care enough about using an air gap, get rid of Windows. It doesn't need to be Tails, i see no point if the machine is not connected anyway; any distro would work.
814  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: s9 infected with a virus - cant sd flash the control board on: November 17, 2021, 11:34:10 PM
It depends on the variant of malware, We have seen the one that disables any sd boot, and the one that only allows sd secure (signed?) boot. The actual solution seems to be replacing the nand itself.

Ironically this is how the S19 comes from factory.

This is because people are lazy, miners are lazy. They didn't change the default password (root), and didn't check the ssh password either, which used to be different in older versions (admin). And when they replace it, they use something simple, that is a big no no.

Next would be allowing windows / android / typical malware infested devices on the same LAN as your miners...

So yeah, bring your windows laptop infested with malware, let it infect one miner and it will happily infect all the others.

TL:DR Set up a good password!
815  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [4+ EH] Slush Pool (slushpool.com); Overt AsicBoost; World First Mining Pool on: November 15, 2021, 10:04:07 PM
Don't give up just yet, you still have a chance, you might be able to convince Slush to just send you the rewards to the old address, Artemis3 is a team member at BO and a good forum member so he should be first to reach out to.

The second person would be Irina the head of support, Jan Čapek is also a very helpful person (I think he is the founder or something), anyway, you can find all these folks on telegram https://t.me/BraiinsOS, you might want to PM them instead since that channel is more about the firmware than the mining pool itself, you don't want to be spamming the wrong group.

Again, don't feel bad, chances are, you are going to get your money back, keep us updated.

Indeed, this type of case and any other Slush Pool issues are handled via support ticket at the Slush Pool site itself.

The Telegram concept for what is a Group vs Channel is different, with the later originally not allowing chat but now its an optional feature to allow discussion in a separate tab.

The channel called Braiins is for the company announcements. It has discussion enabled, but its not (really) meant for support.
The groups called Braiins OS (EN ES RU FA ZH) are, for Braiins OS which is the ASIC mining firmware Smiley
There is a also a channel that notifies when each block found by Slush Pool.

Any other groups/channels in Telegram bearing the name "Slushpool" or any variant of, are scammers.

816  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS & Braiins OS+ custom ASIC firmware: optimize performance & efficiency on: November 15, 2021, 02:08:15 PM
You are missing one line, there should be TWO lines in /etc/crontabs/root so add it back:

*/1 * * * * /usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf 2>&1 | logger -t logrotate
0 0 * * * /usr/sbin/bos_upgrade_at 2>&1 | logger -t upgrade

Stop mining with /etc/init.d/bosminer stop
But this will ramp up the fans for protection, so also edit /usr/sbin/bosminer_monitor.lua

Search and replace fan_set_duty(i, 100) with fan_set_duty(i, 0)
Some fans don't like it to be set to 0% (they would spin to 100% instead), in that case try higher values until you find the min one.

Then your added lines should look something like this:

0 11 * * 1-5 /etc/init.d/bosminer stop && sleep 300 && /etc/init.d/bosminer_monitor stop && sed -i 's/fan_set_duty(i, 100)/fan_set_duty(i, 0)/g' /usr/sbin/bosminer_monitor.lua && /etc/init.d/bosminer_monitor start
0 14 * * 1-5 /etc/init.d/bosminer start && /etc/init.d/bosminer_monitor stop && sed -i 's/fan_set_duty(i, 0)/fan_set_duty(i, 100)/g' /usr/sbin/bosminer_monitor.lua && /etc/init.d/bosminer_monitor start

Yes, your first * is wrong, that would make it run every single minute, so no, you only run it at minute 0.

The sleep 300 is critical for the x17 family, it is meant to cool down the boards before stopping or slowing the fans. You may shorten the number of seconds if you use the S9 family.
817  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS & Braiins OS+ custom ASIC firmware: optimize performance & efficiency on: November 08, 2021, 05:33:49 PM
Many people have commented us that the S9 are very quiet at low power limit, you can even disable one or two hashboards from the firmware.

If you leave everything default, except the lower power limit value. Some people even remove the exhaust fan entirely when ran at around 900W.

So if you think its too loud at 900W, disable hashboard 7 (middle), that will make it use 600W (do not change the power limit value).

Or you could swap the fans for more silent models.
818  Bitcoin / Pools / 8+ EH on: November 05, 2021, 12:12:46 AM
8+ Exahashes per second!

Quote from: Sam | ⛏️₿⚡ | ∞/21M @samusalo

As you can see the news is the pool has reached and is sustaining 8+ EH/S, are you still letting your pool play bank? Get rid of PPS AND get daily payouts(*)!

(*) Variable according to luck, but current average is like 7 blocks per day which is high enough to sustain any commercial operation.
819  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 240V Antminer Dryer outlet help! on: November 02, 2021, 10:35:24 PM
Just because your plug is 50A rated, doesn't mean the circuit actually is, so check that first, and its breaker.

Then, you need an adapter to provide two plugs. Your source of power is the two prongs on the sides, nothing else. Of course the (round) ground prong is nice to use, but ignore the 120v flat prong in the middle.

I'm not sure about that specific adapter, assuming its providing two 240v and two 120v (red/green dot ?), just use the two 240v.

BTW: 3250W/240V=13.54A therefore it would be 14ish each not 20, so both would be 28A, but don't add a third one because you have to keep the 20% safety margin always, and 80% of 50A is 40A so assuming a 50A circuit (again, check), then up to a 40A load you are good.

Well yeah, its even better to protect each plug individually, or separate the circuits to begin with...
820  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: T17e Braiins SD Firmware Update won't work on: November 02, 2021, 10:07:32 PM
You don't need to install Braiins OS+ to test/use it, people skip reading the docs and involve themselves in unnecessary complications.
You can just run it from the sd card, without ever installing, and then just take out the sd card when you don't want it anymore.

This is a full OS replacement, its not some cracker group injecting code to cgminer causing mem leaks to crash it while writing eeprom data...

Therefore no, you can't just expect a different incompatible OS to just "install easily" from within. The manufacturer sd recovery procedure is assuming things that are no longer valid after you decide to install Braiins OS+ to NAND.

Its the same as if you decide to install Linux to a laptop, wipe all partitions, and then expect to restore it to windows by just pressing a key at boot. The recovery partition is not there anymore... And with Linux too, you could have avoided the trouble by running it directly from an usb thumbdrive without ever installing it to the machine.

Therefore use the provided tool as the documentation explains.

bos-toolbox uninstall is simple to use and works fine. Boot Linux 64 bits and just do

./bos-toolbox uninstall ip.ad.re.ss

Done.

Now go into the miner and from the upgrade tab install the latest version from the manufacturer support page, it won't mine until you finish this.
