241  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: September 26, 2021, 01:55:41 PM
I have given up on this year's tournament. The first leg was quite bad for me, and the second leg is proving to be a disaster so far. I made a few bets in favor of MI and SRH. And these two teams are in horrible form. But for today's match I went for a narrow win for CSK and looks like the outcome may be the same. Others are far ahead of me, and I don't think that I'll be able to catch up.

Edit: extremely close match, but CSK won with zero balls and two wickets to spare. At one point I thought that KKR had the upper hand. But 22 runs conceded by Prasidh during the 19th over turned the advantage towards CSK.
242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dollar supporters destroy Bitcoin ATM in El Salvador on: September 26, 2021, 01:37:16 PM
Even I don't understand why those people are destroying the bitcoin ATMs and making protests against bitcoin ?
What loss/damage does it cost them to use bitcoin and even if it does cost a damage then why don't they not use bitcoin at first place.
It's not like the government is prohibiting the use of USD and only accepting bitcoin. They still have both the options and people can choose what they like.
This act by those people seems like some anti-bitcoin group is funding them to do such actions against bitcoin.
If the government wants then they can penalize or punish the people involved in such acts but it's for their good that they are not doing any such things.

Violence and hooliganism are regular occurrences during politically motivated protests in Latin American region. The government needs to react with an iron hand. Or maybe this is what the protestors want. Then they can claim that the government is being too authoritarian on the protestors. In a way, I support the moderate approach taken by the president, Nayib Bukele. By allowing the protests to continue, the president has made sure that the public gets to see the vandalism and violence that they bring with them. And in the long run, this may turn the public opinion against the protestors.
243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dead Coins on: September 26, 2021, 01:25:20 PM
Do you hold any dead coins?

'Dead Coins refer to cryptocurrencies that have been abandoned, used as scam, their website is down, has no nodes, has wallet issues, doesn't have social updates, has low volume or developers have walked away from the project.'

How should we manage dead coins?

What is the point in holding dead coins? I mostly store most of the lesser known cryptocurrencies in exchange wallets (except ERC-20 tokens). And the problem here is that most of the exchanges delist the coins once they are dead or dormant. Then you have the option of installing the desktop wallets and moving the coins from exchange wallets to these coins. But why should we do that? It makes no sense to hold such coins. And in 99.999% of the cases, once a coin is dead, there is zero chance of recovery.
244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How you invest ? when you lose ? on: September 26, 2021, 01:13:04 PM
Hey
im talking about investing in BTC, Altcoin and shit coin
how you invest? like 50% BTC/ETH for long time and 30% alitcoin and 20% shit?

and a general question:
Why people get upset when, for example, bitcoin goes from 42 to 41? they know it will increase to 50, so There is nothing to lose. Their money is safe. I do not know the meaning of loss in this situation

LOL.. dude you are funny. Who in their right minds would invest in "shitcoins"? If someone is investing in such coins, then it is clear that he doesn't agree with that sort of labelling. For example, I would consider both XRP and Doge as shitcoins. But there are a lot of people who don't agree with me. And they have received good returns as well. Doge returned 200x profits during the last 12 months. But for me, the recent spike with Doge is not enough make me change my strategy. My first preference is for BTC (90%), with some selected altcoins making up the second preference (ADA, BNB, BCH.etc).
245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Cryptocurrency is best for long term investment? on: September 26, 2021, 01:01:04 PM
I knew the answer to this question ever since I made my first investment 4.5 years ago - Bitcoin. Simply, I can't find a currency that looks attractive at current levels. Cardano, Solana, BNB.etc are backed up with good technology, but they looks overpriced. Then we have coins like Litecoin and BCH that are priced at more affordable levels, but to be frank I don't see any future potential with these coins. One coin that I would never consider is Ethereum. Too overpriced and the ETH 2.0 rollout turned out to be a big flop.
246  Economy / Economics / Re: China Is making Fuds Since 2017, But BTC Always Gone higher on: September 26, 2021, 12:49:06 PM
There's no news that "isn't true" in this case, which is why it's not FUD.  China announces that all crypto transactions are illegal, but some crypto enthusiast tweets China loves bitcoin and it's not banned.  Somehow, I think the actual government has better information on what is banned and what is illegal than someone who has a vested interest in crypto not being banned.  I don't know what the opposite of FUD is, but if what you say about Justin Sun is true, then he's clearly spreading it by posting things that are demonstrably not true about crypto in China.

I checked his (Justin Sun's) Twitter account and all he said is ”not to be too pessimistic.” How you want to interpret this is up to you. He is claiming that there is no ban on "cryptocurrency possession". I am not sure about this. When they are saying that all the cryptocurrency transactions are illegal, my understanding is that it includes the storage of cryptocurrency as well. The writing on the wall is clear. The regime is quite determined this time and they want to wipe out the usage of cryptocurrency in mainland China (probably also from Hong Kong, if they are able to do that).
247  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 26, 2021, 12:37:14 PM
Although 182 is a good enough target. But Chennai's batsmen are in good form. Especially Du Plessis and Gaikwat. If KKR bowlers are not able to pick up this wicket fast, Chennai will win today too. It is difficult to stop these two players if they are in form. However, there are many experienced bowlers in the Kolkata squad. Let's see which team wins.

Chennai's collection of 52 runs in 6 overs, without losing a wicket. Gaikwad scored 23 off 18 balls and Du Plessis scored 29 off 18 balls.

182 would have been a good target. But KKR made only 171, so the target is 172.  Grin

And right now the CSK openers (Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis) are smashing KKR bowlers all around the park. The poor form of Sunil Narine (with both the bat and ball) is a big handicap for the KKR. Even today, he's proving to be expensive and so far he has conceded 25 runs from his 2 overs. Other bowlers have been tidy, but Narine has handed over the advantage back to CSK. KKR needs a wicket soon, as the match is rapidly drifting out of their control. Won't be a bad idea for Andre Russell to have a couple of overs. He is a partnership breaker.
248  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador Bitcoin payment option on: September 26, 2021, 12:25:23 PM
The president tweeted recently that 2.1 million Salvadorans are now using Chivo wallet and not including the people that only downloaded it, but people that are also using it.

2.1 million Salvadorans are ACTIVELY USING
@chivowallet
 (not downloads).

Chivo is not a bank, but in less than 3 weeks, it now has more users than any bank in El Salvador and is moving fast to have more users that ALL BANKS IN EL SALVADOR combined.

That's really huge. The total resident population of El Salvador is around 6.5 million and the expat population is 3.5 million, which combined to around 10 million in total. Out of that, the adult population may be 6-7 million. Latest figures indicate that one-third of the adult population is using the Chivo wallet. And at this rate, the vast majority of the population would be at least nominally using Bitcoin by the end of this year (by the time Bitcoin was made legal tender early this month, there were only half a million users).
249  Economy / Economics / Re: E-Naira: CBN to launches Nigeria’s digital currency on: September 26, 2021, 12:13:08 PM
The electronic versions of Fiat money are useful to banking providers as they can afford to reduce their service costs for ATM transfers etc. Digital money also makes it simpler to track transactions by the middle class. Its a non-brainer that the entry barrier to anything digital is quite high as it needs a certain degree of comfort with technology, which everybody may not have. This is why it always surprises me when countries actively try to push CBDCs.

They are utterly useless for a developing country with huge population like Nigeria. A lot of times these are pet projects of politicians/ officials who want to appear as tech-savvy and doing something "digital". One thing that may happen is that exchanges like Binance can start supporting this electronic version. It'd be straight forward for the governments to then keep a tab on the people trading through these exchanges. Every government has a structure similar to IRS which wants to maximize tax returns. These officials can use the information to actually pin-point users who are into cryptocurrencies.

We already have "electronic version of the fiat money" in the form of PayPal and other online payment mediums. So what is the need for CBDC? Fiat already exist in digital/electronic form (although not in crypto format). I don't see any advantage for the CBDCs over already existing digital forms of fiat currency. And even the potential userbase is likely to make up of those who are using electronic fiat formats like PayPal. The governments are hoping that CBDCs will replace cryptocurrencies, but we all know that it is never going to happen.
250  Economy / Economics / Re: $6,000,000,000,000 of helicopter money is coming on: September 26, 2021, 12:01:16 PM
Excess money goes in to new investment options.

I see no problem in inflation.

You probably don't have any savings. For those with savings, inflation is a big problem. Because whatever we get in the form of returns, a sizable chunk is taken away by the state in the form of capital gains tax. That means that after inflation is taken in to account, the net wealth actually decreases on a YoY basis. And the biggest joke is that now the governments want to make capital gains tax on par with income tax. That is going to be just ridiculous. For my part, I am planning to purchase more gold ETFs and coins, along with cryptocurrency.
251  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 24, 2021, 04:30:09 PM
After watching a few matches in the IPL, I realized one thing, if the team's opener batsmen start well, and if the opening partnership is good, then the team's finisher batsmen can't play well. The way Kohli and Padikkal were playing in the first 13 overs, I thought they would be able to collect more than 170 runs effortlessly. But in the last 2 overs, Bangalore's players have collected only 6 runs. And they have given a target of only 157 runs. It is not enough. Chennai will win the match today.

It was a surprise. I thought that RCB had the best middle order for any franchise in the IPL - AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Tim David.etc. But this middle order could add only 30-40 runs, once Padikkal and Kohli got out. Dwayne Bravo did a fantastic job, along with some of the other CSK bowlers. A good comeback from Bravo, after the ordinary season he had in 2020. CSK looks like a team that is reborn. If anyone remember what happened to them in 2020, then they'll understand what I am saying. Perhaps the decision to kick out useless players like Kedar Jadhav did the trick for them.
252  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 24, 2021, 04:17:09 PM
Everyday is not Sunday. We saw a situation where Bangladesh cricket team just escaped a massacre on Muslim worship place but small boards didn't made any issue out of it and continue there tour's to NZ. Definatly big 3 will need support of other boards in the long run. Who knows we may have something bigger then ipl from small boards in years to come.

I remember the terrorist incident at Christchurch. 51 people died and a few of the Bangladesh players narrowly escaped from getting shot at. But the difference here is that the Bangladesh government decided that it is safe to continue with the tour and conveyed the message to the BCB. In case of New Zealand team in Pakistan, it was different. The directive came from the New Zealand government to abandon the tour, and CNZ just followed the order. So these two incidents are not directly comparable.
253  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: September 24, 2021, 04:04:00 PM
Will RCB be able to win today? I placed a bet for them but the score so far isn't satisfying so far. In the 2nd leg, it turns out a nightmare for me in the pool. I'm barely winning match now. Is it 1 point in 5/6 matches, or 2? I need to check out LOL.

RCB did what they do so well. They had a great start, and then wasted it. During the last 5 overs, they scored 38 runs, at the loss of 5 wickets. None of the batsmen, apart from the openers (Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli) contributed for RCB. After 13th over, they were 111/0, and they ended up at 156/6 in 20 overs. Tim David generated a lot of hype prior to the start of the second leg, but he failed today. Same was the case for AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. One player to watch for during the chase is Wanindu Hasaranga. I want to see how Dhoni handles him.
254  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 vaccination becoming a criteria to live in the world on: September 23, 2021, 04:38:17 AM
My acquaintances fell ill. The whole family - husband, wife, child (my godson, now we support him, because he lives alone), mother-in-law ... The whole family was opposed to vaccinations, protective masks, and believed that Covid-19 is all a world conspiracy and vaccination = microchipping for remote control by people (!!!). It would be funny if it weren't sad. The mother-in-law, who said that all this is a conspiracy of the imperialists, and that everything is treated with herbs, is in intensive care with a very bad prognosis. The child (14 years old) is the easiest to endure, but his condition is not very good. Husband and wife (48-50 years old) are in the hospital, the condition is of moderate severity. But they knew about all the world conspiracies ...

The same story.. people opposed to vaccination getting infected. Now after two years, they should have known about the truth. Billions have been vaccinated till now and hardly any one is suffering from the side effects. But the propaganda against vaccine is still being spread. Even now, I receive WhatsApp messages once in a while. They claim that if you take the vaccine, then you may end up impotent. Some messages claim that even if you get infected with COVID, you should not get admitted to hospitals. They claim that organs are being stolen from COVID patients. Unfortunately a lot of people believe these unsubstantiated rumors.
255  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 23, 2021, 04:23:00 AM
@Sithara007 I disagree with you guys because player’s need the mental support they receive from their families after the abuses they receive, bad performance and so on. Also we forget these people are just humans like us, and they have every right to relax in between because they’re not gonna get this time back so be considerate guys.

I know people who work for 300+ days a year. And here we have a bunch of guys who claim that they are overworked, despite playing for far fewer number of days. If they feel that they are exhausted, then who told them to participate in all the formats? They can just concentrate on one format and leave the other formats for the younger players. Without the support from fans like us, these guys are nothing. So they should be careful before they get too demanding. Let the BCCI decide the schedule. The players can decide whether to participate or not.
256  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-21] U.S. to Target Crypto Ransomware Payments With Sanctions on: September 22, 2021, 05:49:57 AM
All of us hate that part, but traditional methods are being used a lot more in those departments!

For me, this is the problem. When fiat is being used for 99.9% of the instances of money laundering and ransomware, why they are focusing on cryptocurrency? The argument is that cryptocurrency is more suitable for such purposes. But real time data contradicts that assumption. IMO, the agencies are targeting cryptocurrency mostly because it has emerged as a competitor to fiat, and not because it is used in a large way for illegal purposes. No one supports usage of cryptocurrency for illegal purposes. But at the same time we can't allow agencies targeting the cryptocurrency users giving that excuse.
257  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: September 22, 2021, 04:29:12 AM
Here where I live, seems to be very calm without news on people affected by COVID 19. Medias are on vacination 1st, 2nd and booster doze. They are alarming everyone that 3rd wave would be coming in mid of October and this would mainly affect children. Does not this seem to be a business move from behind rather than whats is really happening out in the world? How they are very sure that 3rd wave would be see in mid of October 2021?

It can be predicted. When India was hit by the second wave in April/May 2021, some of the analysts had predicted it a couple of months back. So depending on the pattern of new infections, skilled analysts are able to predict new waves. Just because the number of infections have subsided, there is no guarantee that the virus has suddenly become inactive. The danger is always there and more so nowadays because the vaccines are having an efficacy for only 5-6 months and offer limited protection against the delta variant.
258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 22, 2021, 04:13:09 AM
Yesterday's match was very interesting and was also very close. At one point I was fully sure this match will be won by PBKS unfortunately, that did not happen. RR won by just 2 runs. In the final overs, PBKS were struggling to play the ball. It would be touch one to swallow for Rahul.

With 8 wickets in hand, they couldn't get 4 runs from 6 balls? That is actually pathetic batting from the Punjab Kings. After the 13th over, they were at 126/1 and needed just 60 more runs from 7 overs. But once Mayank Agarwal got out, their batting just collapsed. Nicholas Pooran made some big hits, but Aiden Markram on the other end was not able to score runs freely. And when Deepak Hooda came to the crease, he was under a lot of pressure and got out for a duck. Personally I thought that they could have sent Fabian Allen ahead of Hooda.
259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 21, 2021, 12:46:22 PM
In the end, it comes to money. For CNZ and ECB, having their players participate in the IPL is much more profitable when compared to sending their players on a tour to Pakistan. That said, if Pakistan comes up with the proposal of conducting these matches in the UAE, then these boards need to agree. And for the PCB, that is the most viable option right now. IMO, there is no point in picking up a fight with the SENA boards, when the BCCI is already against them. Doing so will only isolate them further in the field of cricket.
260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 21, 2021, 12:31:29 PM
All of you diverted the mental health and extremely tight schedule discussion to disciplinary behavior hehe

I am someone who need to work 5 days a week, and on average 8 hours per day. Here we have a bunch of guys who play cricket around 60-70 days per year and even during the tours they bring their family along and roam around with them. They need to behave like athletes playing any other sport. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi spend a lot more time playing compared to these guys and still maintain the professionalism. If these guys can't keep up with the schedules, then they can retire from any two formats, and focus on the format which they like the most (T20?).
