1201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 Postponed 21 on: May 06, 2021, 12:46:49 PM
It is now official.

Athletes who will go to the next summer games must and they will be vaccinated (with Pfizer).
The games will starts soon and they will be from the 23th of July till the end of the 1st week of August.

That's a good move. From what I understand, the initial doses will be donated by the end of May, so that the athletes could receive the second dose before their arrival in Japan. But there should not be any delay in their plan, as the Games are scheduled to begin by 23rd July. The second dose must be administered by the 4th week of June, to complete the window period before the start of the Games. Anyway, this is very good news, not just for all the sports enthusiasts around the world, but also for gamblers like us.

@Vishnu.Reang Sri Lanka's chances are slim, most probably it would go directly to UAE. Australia is good option too, Newzealand is also close so they could think about sharing hosting rights with each others.

I know. Right now UAE is having a probability of around 99%. Australia could have been a great option, as they have a number of really beautiful stadiums. But when the government is not even allowing Australian players from India back to that country, you can't really expect them to be in favor of conducting the T20 World Cup there. The same with New Zealand as well. I don't expect a favorable response from the government there.
1203  Economy / Economics / Re: April 2021 set a new record India. How much effect in Indian economy? on: May 06, 2021, 07:31:57 AM
1. Statue of unity - wastage of 370 million USD
2. Narendra Modi Stadium - wastage of 110 million USD
3. Central Vista project - wastage of 140 million USD (ongoing)
4. Proposed Sivaji statue - wastage of 540 million USD (proposed)
5. Bullet train - wastage of 10 billion (estimated)
6. Ram Mandir - wastage of around 300 million USD (estimated)

This is funny. Nice try to spread fake news.

1. Funds for Statue of Unity mostly came from the state of Gujarat, with only a small portion coming from the Union Budget.
2. Narendra Modi stadium is owned by Gujarat Cricket Association, and it received no central funding.
3. Central Vista project involves the shifting of office buildings to a open area from the crowded Lutyens region.
4. Shivaji Statue is only "proposed" and no decision has been taken
5. How come bullet train is a waste of money? You want people to travel in bullock carts?
6. The $300 million cost for Ram Mandir comes from devotees and the central government hasn't contributed a penny.

even How good indian Economy goes well Yet we cannot deny the fact that the government specially in banking sector is against crypto and the Issue of banning never stops even a little so what can crypto do good towards Indian people and Indian Economy?

Rather than the politicians, it is the bureaucracy which is pushing for the ban. Here in India, people have a feeling that the politicians are responsible for most of the troubles and they are the most corrupt bunch. But in reality, that is not the case. The most corrupt branches in India are the bureaucracy, administration (IAS/IPS), the judiciary and the police. Compared to them, the politicians are much better. And it is not very surprising that the bureaucrats are up in arms against the cryptocurrency. They will not allow anything, that reduces their dominance on the common people.

I thought that it was Monaco that was a gambling hub, never expected Morroco to be the one. I didn't know that Bosnia is a Muslim country, aren't they like in the Eastern Europe region where the dominant religion is Orthodox Christianity. I think that there is nothing wrong with clerics literally interpreting the sacred words because there should be a freedom to interpret any way you want it.

Both Monaco and Macau are famous for their casinos, but some of the Moroccan cities are famous for gimbling as well, especially those in Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakesh. And as far as I know, Muslims have become a majority in Bosnia as per the latest census. According to the 2013 Census, Muslims now constitute around 50.7% of the population. But they speak the same language and mostly have the same culture when compared to their Christian neighbors. I don't think that there will be much support for a ban on gambling in Bosnia.

Its not acceptable that other franchises are not in such financial status to care their players because almost every franchise owned by the rich individuals.

It is a very tricky situation. According to the contract obligations, the owners of the franchise are not responsible for the players. it is the duty of the franchise. And many of the franchises have suffered financial losses due to the suspension of the tournament, and they are using that excuse for not helping the players. In case of Mumbai Indians, the owner (Nita Ambani) decided to spend money out of her own pocket to arrange flights for the players. As such, she is not required to do so, in a legal sense.
1207  Economy / Economics / Re: US economy is booming, but people are not seeing it. on: May 05, 2021, 05:21:37 PM
I think USA is doing quite fine. There are places on Earth that people are doing way way way worse. Americans seems to love vaccines and will vaccine 70% of citizens. Many countries will not achieve that because their tradition is not to trust vaccines.

Seriously? The Americans have hoarded all the vaccines that are available (including some that they are never going to use) and now the excuse being given is that in other countries the people don't trust vaccines? Vaccination rates are low in other countries, because the vaccines are not available. As simple as that. Being an Indian, I am trying hard to get myself vaccinated for the last 3 months. Unfortunately no slots are available, because the vaccines are in short supply.

I think now its quite clear that India is not hosting any WC this year. BCCI officials were delaying the final confirmation to ICC regarding WC but after IPL drama they already lost the little leverage they had under their belt. Now it would be ridiculous if BCCI making new excuses.

If that was the case, then the ICC could have gone ahead with the original plan of scheduling the World Cup on October 2020. It was pushed to 2021 for two reasons. The first one was to accommodate the calendar for IPL 2020, and the second reason was to stage the world cup in India. Apart from UAE, Sri Lanka is also being talked about as the alternate venue. But I don't think that they have enough facilities to host such a large tournament.
1209  Economy / Economics / Re: Africa needs to fix continent, richest people are politicians on: May 05, 2021, 04:05:18 PM
You also have religious leaders as among the richest in Africa but that's another topic. The problem stems from the general populace's poor choices when it comes to electing officials. They just elect whoever they think will help them in a swift manner, and not someone that is really going to help them in the long run. Same as most poverty-stricken countries today, most of them elect officials that knows nothing about governing their people, or just elect someone that is a popular figure in the country without even knowing the law.

It really can't be helped as long as the poor isn't educated about the importance of choosing who is to take the helm of governing the country or their regions.

One of the reasons why Africa is so poor is due to the popularity of foreign religions. Both Christianity and Islam have managed to wipe out the native religions and traditions. And now the competition between various religious sects (all of them foreign) are very common in the continent and every year tens of thousands die as a result. On the other hand, the religious leaders lead a life of luxury. Pastor David Olaniyi Oyedepo is believed to be worth billions of $$$ (although officially his wealth stands at just $150 million), while a majority of those who attend his church earn less than $2 per day. He owns 4 private jets and has luxury real estate properties in the UK and the US. Bishop Allan Kiuna of Kenya is having a net worth of $4.6 billion.
1210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 05, 2021, 03:51:48 PM
It was BCCI turn to host WC. Things were looking fairly okay last month or so, it looked like India got it shit together with the covid. Full lockdown was hard on the economy and WC is schedule in NOV so there was some hope of spectators going into the standium etc. Considering all things happens in recent month it was obvious that they were trying hard for the WC as any world event is good for the economy, one of the major reason they hosted IPL in India as test, which failed royally.

I can understand. But IMO, they should not take any more risk as the BCCI is having egg on their face. The T20 world cup involves a total of 16 teams and it will be impossible to host that tournament in India. They need to move it to UAE as soon as possible. October is not that far away. The current spike is going to last for at least 1-2 months, and I am not expecting any respite before July-August. The vaccination program has also slowed down considerably.
1211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 05, 2021, 02:05:54 PM
Don't know if any big nations or associate nations had any problem with BCCI hosting the WC, its just that covid changed the scenario and BCCI about to lose a hosting right. As far as Tax fiasco is concern i think it got resolved, after so much discussion and drama BCCI agreed to pay tax on icc behalf.

OK.. so BCCI will bear the tax burden and ICC should be happy now. But I still don't understand why the BCCI want to host this event so badly. Spectators are not allowed, since the (full) vaccination is only 3% done. If the event is hosted in the UAE, then spectators can be allowed as half the population of UAE is now fully vaccinated. Why the BCCI is trying so hard for an event, where it will receive zero gate collection?
1212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 05, 2021, 01:45:53 PM
^^^ I don't think that the other boards will be negatively impacted. The "player release fee" is not significant for boards other than Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa. Even for these boards, it makes up only 1% or 2% of their annual revenue. For the smaller boards such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, too few of their players are taking part in the IPL and their auction amount is too low to make any real impact. On the other hand, the BCCI's opposition to the additional global event can cause them as much as $20 million reduction in the funds over the 8-year period.
1213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: May 05, 2021, 01:30:41 PM
Shifting the fund is the best decision, I think it soo. There are still many matches left, it is still uncertain who will win. It would be unfair to declare victory at this moment. So we should wait, if IPL starts again then we can start the pool again. Otherwise, the fund should be transferred.

I am OK with both the options. Either the funds can be kept as such, and let's resume the pool when the tournament resumes. Or, it can be transferred to the pool for T20 world cup (I would prefer the first option though). Out of the 60 matches, only 29 matches have been completed, so declaring the winners based on current standing is not the right thing to do. Anyway, let's wait and ask Royse777 how he want to proceed. I am sure that he'll take a decision that is palatable to everyone.
1214  Economy / Economics / Re: Andreessen Horowitz plans $1 bln cryptocurrency VC fund on: May 05, 2021, 12:43:08 PM
More corporate spending means more centralization of cryptos. It is not really favorable for commoners like us in long term. Venture capital funds are seeing more profit from cryptospace and crypto related startups, so they are sniffing for opportunities.

It might sound good for now but in long term, cryptos will not benefit the common people like us if its control goes to the hand of money hungry corporates. There's no liquidity issue in the market, so we don't really need corporate funds here!

Define centralization first. IMO, centralization occurs when an entity or an individual decides who can use a specific service and who needs to be shut out. Even if the institutions managed to own 90% of the cryptocurrency, they will not be able to prevent any specific individual from using Bitcoin. The idea of centralization doesn't work in the cryptocurrency sector, similar to how it works with fiat currency. Therefore I don't think that individual investors need to worry too much about the entry of institutions.
1215  Economy / Economics / Re: Could Bitcoin Smash Socialism in Venezuela? on: May 05, 2021, 12:28:54 PM
^^^ Thanks for the very detailed answer. I could agree to most of what you posted. I don't know much about the state of USSR before it disintegrated in 1992. But a lot of people in India and the other developing nations believe that they were one of the two superpowers, in terms of economy, military, nuclear technology and medical science. Form your response, it looks as if the only region that actually benefitted from being a part of the USSR was Central Asia (Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.etc). The majority of the ethnic Tajiks live in Afghanistan, and those who live in the ex-USSR republic seems to be in a much better situation compared to those in Afghanistan.
1216  Economy / Economics / Re: China to overtake the Us as the largest global economy by 2028? on: May 05, 2021, 12:13:59 PM
Everything is simple here. It's no secret that official China loves to manipulate data to achieve its goals. For a long time they hid the real indicators of morbidity, did not let international observers in, distorted the data in every possible way, including deliberate forgery! Therefore, looking at the official statistics from China is a pointless exercise - you will base your calculations on incorrect baselines. I am a supporter of simple logic - if some statistical data differ sharply from the "standard" - then there is either an error in the data (including deliberate manipulations), or there are some real reasons for such deviations. For example, the sales volume of air conditioners in the Far North is always lower than in Southeast Asia, that is all logical Smiley

China might have manipulated its data. I am not going to argue about it. But how they managed to completely eradicate the COVID 19 pandemic within their borders? The last reported death from COVID 19 in China was many months ago. How come they are able to eradicate a virus, which is creating trouble for all the other countries in the world? And they are not lying about it. The Chinese cities are not under lockdown or any restriction, and the life seems to be normal. How this is possible?
1217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? on: May 05, 2021, 11:15:49 AM
Gold and bitcoin managed to become one of the most profitable investment assets in the first half of this year.
However, the increase in the value of the two assets that occurs simultaneously relates to which investment asset will be a better store of value.
Gold and bitcoin can complement each other's portfolio of investors to get bigger profits.

For Bitcoin it was first half of this year (which is not yet finished) but you need to remember that gold returned negative profits for the same period. I have already posted about this, and gold prices are sliding for the last 7-8 months. Since August 2020, there has been a 20% decline in the gold prices. Gold was an outlier during this period, as almost all the other assets returned positive profits. There is a remote possibility that the rising popularity of cryptocurrency had negatively impacted the gold demand.
1218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 05, 2021, 11:04:08 AM
The BCCI should have hosted the IPL in the UAE like the previous season. Or arrange in both countries. Then IPL would not have to be stopped now. However, no one could have imagined that the second wave of coronavirus in India would take such a terrible form. Hopefully very soon the situation will return to normal and the IPL will start again in compliance with the health restrictions.

They were just overconfident. At least they could have analyzed what happened during the PSL. What is the point in insisting that the tournament should be held in India, despite the fact that spectators are not allowed? If gate collection is zero, then what difference it makes whether the tournament is held in the UAE or India? The BCCI committed a major blunder this time, and that is going to cause them hundreds of USD in losses. On top of that, some of the international players are going to rethink about their participation in the future.
1219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? on: May 04, 2021, 06:36:15 PM
I have a feeling that gold is slowly losing its sheen among the investors. Look at the gold price, since the pandemic spread across the world. The price peaked at $2100 per oz by August 2020. But after that, it has been a steady decline. Now the price has even dipped below $1,780 per oz. At first I thought that this is a temporary phenomenon, resulting from individual investors selling their gold to survive the pandemic. But now that doesn't seems to be the case. Large investors are also selling their gold, because the future prospects doesn't look very good.
1220  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-03-15] [Reuters] India to propose cryptocurrency ban, penalising miners on: May 04, 2021, 06:20:25 PM
I have to remind everyone that till now, there is no clear clarification on the status of cryptocurrency in India. For the last one month, there has been no additional statements on this subject, either from the finance minister or from the bureaucrats. Meanwhile, the number of cryptocurrency users have rocketed upwards in various Indian exchanges. For the first time, I am seeing ads for various exchanges in mainstream Indian TV channels.
