1101  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dubai's Government and Gambling on: May 18, 2021, 10:49:38 AM
The government can open a gambling casino in Dubai if they are hard to get an income because of this pandemic. But they will strict in the regulations and not all people can go to that casino since it will be related to the religion of that country. The government will try to search for another source of income for their country and if gambling can help them have the income, maybe they will allow gambling but with terms and conditions. But the government needs to discuss with the religious leaders before they allow gambling in Dubai.

As posted earlier, the UAE doesn't need additional income from these sectors. They already have a very diversified economy, which is not entirely dependent on the oil and gas industry (at least when compared to the neighboring nations such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait). On top of that, in terms of per capita wealth they are one of the richest countries in the world. So obviously they don't need to allow any of the industries or sectors that are not compatible with their religious beliefs.
1102  Other / Archival / Re: The community created a petition: Elon Musk, sell your bitcoin on: May 18, 2021, 10:34:11 AM
The more attention people give him, the more influence he can exert.  Petitions give him more attention.  You are going to achieve the complete opposite of what you set out to do.

How can you be so sure about the intention of those who are raising this petition? They may be doing it for their own publicity. Even if the intentions are real, I don't really think that Elon will be bothered much about an online petition, which is signed by less than 500 people. His Twitter poll, where he asked whether Tesla should accept Dogecoin, was voted on by more than 3.9 million people. Now compare the numbers. 500 vs 3.9 million. The best thing to do is to wait and watch. Elon is going to sink under his own weight.
1103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reactions From Musk's Bitcoin criticism on: May 18, 2021, 10:18:38 AM
You will soon see that he will find some technical reason why he no longer supports DogeCoin and Shiba ....to rinse and repeat that strategy. (Possibly hiring his own developers to create MuskCoin that runs on Power Wall or something)  Roll Eyes

No I do not think it will come soon. Right now he sees all the potential and like he said he will work with the dev to make new improvements,,, but he will use all this experience to launch a new coin or many new coins. All without his involvement public.

Then he will laugh all the way to the bank.

His ultimate aim may be to come up with his own coin, which may be named as MuskCoin or TeslaCoin. I also agree that it is not going to happen very immediately. He may wait for a few months, or even up to a year. During this time he will promote Dogecoin. And when the time comes, he will dump Dogecoin by giving some silly excuse and try to promote his own coin. But if you check the market caps of BTC and Doge, you can see that this plan hasn't worked very well. Doge market cap is still around 7% of that of Bitcoin.
1104  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fully vaccinated individuals now spared of masks in the casinos in Vegas on: May 18, 2021, 07:36:26 AM
Nevertheless it depends on the gambler itself, feeling free from covid is good but lets be wise to not risk ourselves just to gamble to physical casinos for satisfaction.
I see it that way, too. Unfortunately, one still absolutely does not know how contagious vaccinated people can still be, but one knows for sure that vaccination does not lead to immunity either. Of course, relaxing mask restrictions now serves to be more "attractive" to potential customers. Whether it is wise is another matter; unfortunately, only time will tell.

For me, I will continue to wear the mask despite vaccination, especially as self-protection for me and my surroundings. Personally, I would still feel absolutely not safe in a closed room without a mask.

A lot of people believe that wearing of masks is not for their own safety, but for the safety of others. So some think that it is OK to not to wear masks. And in the United States, ever since the pandemic started everything has become politicized, including the decision on lockdowns, wearing of masks and the administration of the vaccines. Despite the availability of vaccines, millions of Americans have refused to take them. And in extreme examples, vaccinated people have been discriminated against. Check this:

1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Zuckerberg named his goat Bitcoin on: May 18, 2021, 07:07:09 AM
You are right and if it is on a negative light it doesn't matter since negative publicity is still publicity. But I doubt that it will be a negative thing since Mark is a technology inclined person and an innovator so there is a high possibility that this is a positive thing.

I am yet to see a single hint of positive approach towards cryptocurrency from Zuckerberg. He seems to hate Bitcoin with a passion, and I don't know exactly the reason for that. There are rumors that the hatred results from the involvement of the Winklewii in Bitcoin sector. He once tried to destroy Bitcoin by coming up with his own version of shitcoin (called Libra). But that plan flopped miserably even before it could be finalized. And actually this might have ignited his hatred even further.
1106  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-04-21] Governments can stop Bitcoin by shutting down mining, says Electric on: May 18, 2021, 06:55:07 AM
@hv_. Do you trust his tweets? Tesla is applying for entry on the renewable fuel credit market where they can receive more government subsidies. Tesla has been needing them to keep the company’s cashflow positive.

For how long they are going to sustain solely on government subsidies? Tesla was founded in 2003, and even after two decades they haven't been successful in attaining profit. And that is despite generous support from the federal government and the state governments. For me, it means only one thing - Tesla's business model is not sustainable. Perhaps they should exit the EV sector and leave it to more competent automobile makers. The only positive about Tesla is its hyperinflated market cap and unbelievably high P/E ratio.
1107  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: May 18, 2021, 06:45:40 AM
Bob Arum is a leech and he makes his living from the millions these boxers make and even Floyd Mayweather started making huge amount of money after breaking off with Bob Arum and he had to pay close to a million dollars to get out of the contract and these fighters might not have that kind of money to get out of the contract and hence they are stuck and need to fight according to the promoters plans and it is a really pathetic situation in boxing which needs a change.

That is how business works. Bob Arum created opportunities for the less known fighters. Now once they get all the fame and exposure, they want to break off and arrange fights on their own. It doesn't work like that. Arum needs to be compensated for his initial investment, right? And it is not just in boxing. In most of the other sports you can find similar contracts. And if you ask me, the $1 million payment made by Floyd is pretty minuscule, compared to what Arum would have earned if the contract was still in place.
1108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: who wants a carbon neutral bitcoin ? Plant a 100 trees for 300 USD on: May 18, 2021, 06:35:05 AM
I sometimes wonder if those who are blue in the face for screaming about "bitcoin carbon emission" (which is not even close to reality) have ever in their lives talked 5 seconds a bout other industries that are not only polluting our air but waters and are generally terrible for the environment?
Interestingly enough most of the public figures who talk about bitcoin and pollution have never talked about anything remotely related to environment before.

Agreed. We need to ignore these losers. The self-proclaimed environmentalists never talk about the carbon footprint of producing banknotes and coins. These people have run out of reasons to make their complaints against Bitcoin and that is the reason why they are concentrating so much on the so called carbon footprint of Bitcoin. And people like Elon never talk about the Carbon emissions that his factories produce. Please check this:

Quote
Thanks to its explosive expansion in China and a planned car plant in India, Tesla is in the process of not just increasing the total sum of its emissions — a pretty inevitable consequence of growth in our current carbonised world — but increasing the amount of pollution each of its vehicles generates, too.

I think the real reason why Kohli won't approve of Dravid is because he is scary  Grin.

https://youtu.be/j8KpV-4_mRg

LOL.. jokes apart, Rahul Dravid is diagonally opposite to Virat Kohli. I remember Dravid playing his first ODI match. He had a strike rate of 30 or so... Everyone in my house was cursing him.. But in the test format, he was one of the best India ever produced. When Ganguly, Laxman and Sachin used to perform poorly in overseas conditions, Dravid used to rescue the Indian batting. But still, he got overshadowed by Sachin and Ganguly.

There is one fact about Dravid that many of the cricket fans don't know. He represented Scotland in the county championship in 2003. At that time, Scotland cricket was struggling with finances and were threatened with expulsion from the county championship. Dravid played for them as an overseas player to make sure that they remain in the county ODI tournament. It was a rare act of kindness from a test nation player towards an associate team.
1110  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 17, 2021, 06:03:51 PM
OK guys.. so a few hours back, we had official response from the International Cricket Council (ICC), which is the global governing body for the sport of cricket. As expected, they have downplayed the allegations.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/icc-says-al-jazeera-s-allegations-implausible-concludes-investigation-1263319

Quote
The ICC has concluded a three-year long investigation into allegations aired on a TV documentary in 2018 linking England and Australia players being involved in spot-fixing in two Test matches in India, in 2016 and 2017, calling them "implausible". The ICC's anti-corruption unit (ACU) has also cleared five individuals, including two former cricketers, of any charges due to "insufficient evidence".

A few of the big names were mentioned in the documentary, including international players Dilhara Lokuhettige of Sri Lanka and Pakistan player Hasan Raza. They will face no disciplinary action, either from the ICC, or from the regional boards.
1111  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: May 17, 2021, 01:56:50 PM
So Elon has clarified that Tesla hasn't sold any Bitcoin. And I don't think that Tesla has purchased any new coins either, given his earlier tweets. So there is no evidence to claim that Elon actually profited from the market manipulation of Bitcoin. This guy is making his moves in a planned manner, and right now it is impossible for the SEC to touch him. Remember that Elon is the same guy who once tweeted that Tesla shares are overpriced, and that resulted in a crash in Tesla prices.
1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla destroys bitcoin :-[ on: May 17, 2021, 01:36:07 PM
As far as I can see, Bitcoin is not destroyed. It is still thriving, although the exchange rates have dipped below $50K. Elon should worry about his crappy Tesla EVs. From what I heard, a number of major automobile manufacturers are going to enter the EV sector in a big way. There will be more competition, and there is a chance that the overpriced Tesla cars will be destroyed soon by other manufacturers such as Toyota and Volkswagen.

That's true in Ohio the local government is offering lottery prize worth one million for those that get the COVID shot people are no properly educated about the true nature of the virus and how it can infect by not wearing a mask does not mean that you are totally safe or you cannot infect others, you can still infect and get infected but not going to the point that you will seriously get sick and hospitalize.

Ohio offering lottery prize worth one million for those that get the COVID shot

This is just extreme. Sorry to hear that the governor had to resort to such desperate measures to improve the vaccination rates. Here in India we are facing an acute shortage of vaccines and in a majority of the states those in 18-45 age group have to wait for another 2-3 months for a chance to get their first dose. It makes me sad that in some of the developed countries the citizens are not agreeing to receive the vaccine despite being available. If anyone is still having doubts regarding the vaccine, let me say this. Here nowadays most of the deaths are occurring in the <45 age group. Even those deaths occurring among the 45 plus group is mostly among those who refused vaccination.

1114  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 17, 2021, 12:42:55 PM
If the senior players do not guide the young players properly or do not cooperate, it will be difficult for the Indian team to find young talented players in the future. Coaches in different franchises usually work more with senior or experienced players than with young ones. So senior and experienced players should cooperate with the youngsters.
From the look of it, the young talents are in a really good space and from what i understand the young talents are nurtured by the former players especially Rahul Dravid and you can see the number of talents that are exploding into the International scene and even in the India team i do not think there is any partiality and the former players are always helpful to groom the young talents and that is how things are in the England dressing room as well in the Australian dressing room.

Rahul Dravid is an entirely different type of individual. If you look at the former Indian players, many of them have either entered politics or administration (such as Ganguly). Some others have dissociated from cricket altogether (Sachin Tendulkar for example). Dravid on the other hand continued to work with grass-root development. He was neither power hungry, nor greedy for money. He would make a perfect coach for the Indian national team. I would say that he's 100 times better than Damaadji. But unfortunately Kohli would never give his approval for such a role.
1115  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 17, 2021, 12:29:29 PM
Whenever I hear match fixing in cricket I remember Hansie Cronje, the ex south african captain. What a good batsman he was but everything got ruined after it was found that he was part of a big match fixing syndicate. Unfortunately he died in a air crash before big names could have come out.
That's what most potential whistleblowers do, they sometimes die or disappear after the whole scandal unfolds and they could be the key for taking down the whole organization, this person isn't the last one that's going to suffer the same fate, match fixing is a serious money making business and they don't want people to meddle with their money making.

Cronje was just small fish. He was probably indulging in match fixing for the first time, and he got caught. The masterminds were Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja. The bookies contacted the South African players through these guys. Cronje gave a statement that Mohammad Azharuddin was the intermediary when he met with the bookie Mukesh Gupta. Now Gupta was also a lower ring operative, and Dawood Ibrahim was the real mastermind of this operation. Rumors are that Dawood Ibrahim got Cronje killed for speaking out against Azharuddin.

There were so many contradictory replies, and therefore I decided to check the Khaleej Times website (KT is the most popular newspaper in the United Arab Emirates). Check this link:

https://www.khaleejtimes.com/news/government/dubai-denies-rumours-says-no-licences-for-gambling-activities-being-given

Quote
The Dubai government on Thursday denied rumours that licences for gambling were being granted in the emirate. "The Government of Dubai Media Office stated that reports circulating in social media about licenses being granted for gambling activities in the emirate are incorrect," a tweet said.

And here is the official Tweet from Dubai Media Office:

https://twitter.com/DXBMediaOffice/status/1385214684291375110

Illegal casinos can be found in Dubai and some of the other Emirates. But be ready to face the consequences, in case you are using them.
1117  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fully vaccinated individuals now spared of masks in the casinos in Vegas on: May 17, 2021, 11:15:06 AM
At this point, I don't think that the children in the United Sates are being approved for vaccination. So if someone visits the casino and get the infection, there is a chance that he will pass it on to the unvaccinated individuals in his neighborhood. I don't know why people in the United States are so adamant in not wearing a mask. And this is despite more than 600,000 deaths occurring in the US. Why people are being so irresponsible? And I even heard that large number of people are refusing to get vaccinated there.
1118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Arguing that a coin with a very low energy usage or "efficient", cannot exist on: May 17, 2021, 11:05:18 AM
And yet, in the same breath, you completely fail to acknowledge a single downside, flaw or compromise to PoS?  Snake Oil Salesman much?  It's not all rainbows and sunshine, so stop pretending otherwise.

It's a completely different security model, different type of trust level and different alignment of economic incentives.  It's unwise to change the foundations of a robust and stable structure at a whim like that.  If PoS really was better, the market would have noticed by now.  Have you considered that maybe you're not in a position to insult our collective intelligence and act like just about everyone in this multi billion dollar industry is some sort of mindless drone?  Seriously, who the hell do you think you are?

There was a time when I used to think that PoS was superior to PoW. But the more I studied about these algorithms, I came to know that PoS is a less secure system, where decentralization can be under threat. And you are right in saying that if PoS was actually superior, then some of these coins might have already overtaken Bitcoin in terms of usage and market cap. PoW may be more energy consuming, but it makes sure that Bitcoin can't be controlled by some organization or individual.
1119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If Musk doesn't tweet Dogecoin, can it still soar? on: May 17, 2021, 10:55:39 AM
yes, but there are many of them did not succeed in making Doge Pump, only Elon Musk was able to do that because indeed Elon Musk followers are mostly billionaires, so it is very easy to play with money and market manipulation
That's pretty obvious, and now Dogecoin has started to drop about 5% in the market, and do you think that this thing will recover soon on Dogecoin and will have its next pump in the near future?

See.. Elon Musk is continuously tweeting against Bitcoin for the last few days. But it only had a limited impact on the prices. We lost around 20% versus the USD. On the other hand, can you imagine what would happen, if he disowns Dogecoin? It will lose at least 90% of its value within a day or two. And I strongly suspect that it may happen. Elon's ultimate target is to come up with his own shitcoin (similar to the plan Mark Zuckerberg had). After all, he is greedy and want to profit out of the cryptocurrency sector.
1120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk please stop messing up the crypto market on: May 17, 2021, 10:45:52 AM
I hate Elon Musk as much as anyone else here. But at the same time, we need to ask ourselves a question - how is it possible for a single person to manipulate the cryptocurrency market so much, despite having a market capitalization of more than $2 trillion? A decentralized asset not controlled by any individual or entity should not behave like this, right? If such manipulation is still possible with cryptocurrency, then institutions and mainstream investors may refuse to invest in this asset.
