1121  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 16, 2021, 07:14:29 PM
@Pmalek. I would assume that most of the users here don't have an idea about the game of cricket.
Thank you for your inputs!

Based on your name, I can safely assume that you are from one of the regions where cricket is very popular, am I right? Are you familiar with this scandal that the Al Jazeera reporters stumbled upon? Were there any investigations carried out by governing bodies, and were any of the involved players or staff members suspended or jailed?

I would be interested in hearing about it from someone who absolutely knows what he is talking about.

Some of the claims are too outlandish to be true, such as the involvement of the English players in 2016. But recently Heath Streak was banned for fixing some matches during the period mentioned here. Also, the article states this:

Quote
He was introduced to other match-fixers who are ex-cricket players who played for their national teams

Heath Streak perfectly fits the description. Now there are some articles about his involvement:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/apr/14/heath-streak-handed-eight-year-ban-for-breaching-icc-anti-corruption-code
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/heath-streak-handed-eight-year-ban-for-breaching-icc-anti-corruption-code-1258953

Now here is another incident, which corresponds to the period mentioned in this article (this time in Sri Lanka):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_cricket_pitch_fixing_and_betting_scandal

This was going on for many years, before coming to light in 2018.
1122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 16, 2021, 07:04:44 PM
^^^ Well.. I agree. During the old days, people had the luxury of watching test cricket. But that is not the case now. Time has become really sparse and most of us don't have more than 30 minutes per day to watch sports. So apart from the die hard cricket fans, only T20 matches are being watched by considerable number of people for the entire duration. If I was the chairman of the ICC, then I would have discouraged teams from playing more than 2-3 test matches per year. That time could be better utilized for T20 or ODI matches.
1123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 16, 2021, 02:11:24 PM
I think the Ranji Trophy was originally organized to find new talented players in India. From here, talented players are given a chance in the IPL and then the players get a chance to prepare themselves more for the national team. The Ranji Trophy is very important for India.

Hardly anyone cares about the Ranji Trophy nowadays. For the national team selection (even for the test and ODI formats), the performance in the IPL is considered as important. And actually this is where the state level leagues such as the TNPL and KPL comes in. Players such as T Natarajan and Shahrukh Khan originally caught the attention of the IPL franchise owners as a result of their performance in the TNPL. They managed to get selected to the IPL franchises without even playing a single Ranji Trophy match. And Natarajan has represented India in all three formats.
1124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 16, 2021, 01:51:11 PM
Sanjay Manjrekar, Aakash Chopra, Deep Dasgupta and few others are exploring the options of  implementing a two-tier structure in test cricket.
Do you guys agree if this two tier structure should be implemented in test cricket ?

It should have been implemented at least one decade ago. Now these jokers are just exploring the possibility. This lack of inclusiveness is the reason why cricket has remained as a stagnating sport, confined to South Asia. I just hope that now the ICC will wake up from their deep slumber and allow the second tier test cricket. But again, a second division test league is meaningless, if there is no relegation-promotion structure. After a period of 3 or 4 years, the best performing team from the second division should be promoted to the first division, and the worst performing first division member should be relegated to the second division.
1125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If Musk doesn't tweet Dogecoin, can it still soar? on: May 16, 2021, 01:37:15 PM
Dogecoin would have still soared without Elon Musk, but definitely not this much. A lot of manipulation is going on with shitcoins such as Doge. And many of them would have naturally gone up thanks to the bull run with Bitcoin. But Doge has gone up a lot even compared to the other shitcoins and the primary reason for that is Elon Musk. And let me remind you that Elon wasn't the only celebrity promoting Dogecoin. There were a bunch of others, such as Mia Khalifa, Jake Paul, Snoop Dogg and Mark Cuban.
1126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 16, 2021, 01:25:10 PM
^^^^

@Pmalek. I would assume that most of the users here don't have an idea about the game of cricket. That is natural, given the fact that it is a sport that is mostly confined to South Asia (especially India, Pakistan, Bangladesh). If cricket is being played in other countries, it is mostly done by expats from the South Asian region. Now for those who are not familiar with cricket - match fixing is very prevalent in this sport. In football, FIFA has managed to almost wipeout match fixing. But the corresponding governing body has failed to do the same in cricket. And that is partly because the governing body itself is being headed by corrupt people like Greg Barclay and Sharad Pawar.
1127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: May 16, 2021, 01:13:23 PM
^^^^ You are right about the 2015 match between Manny and Floyd. From what I heard, the combined earning was $300 million (out of a revenue of >$500 million) and it was split 60-40. But let's not forget that this fight occurred six years ago, when both the boxers were in their peak form. Now earning that much will be very difficult, especially when Floyd has announced his retirement. Also the revenues will be lower anyway, due to the pandemic situation.
1128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I see no difference between Elon Musk and McAfee on: May 16, 2021, 01:01:15 PM
I don't know whether it is the right thing to compare Elon Musk to McAfee. But I'm sure about one thing that one of Elon Musk's goals was definitely manipulating. I think the same for Dogecoin and the action Tesla has taken about Bitcoin mining also.

A few weeks ago, I would have balked at any comparison made between Elon and McAfee. But now I realize that Elon Musk is just another wolf in sheep's clothing. He is just like any other billionaire, who want to manipulate the market and make money for himself. Sometimes people get blinded when they get too much power and influence. Elon is currently going through this stage. He will realize his mistake when his Dogecoin bubble bursts. But after this episode, I don't think that anyone will take Elon seriously in the cryptocurrency sector anymore. He has lost all the respect he had.
1129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Two brothers who became millionaires with cryptocurrency on: May 16, 2021, 12:49:33 PM
I would have been happier, if the story was about two guys who became millionaires as a result of their investment in any real cryptocurrency. SHIBA INU is an overpriced shitcoin, like thousands out there. And remember that whenever someone is becoming rich as a result of these shitcoins, someone is becoming poorer as well. These guys are only able to sell their shitcoins at this rate, because someone else is purchasing them. And the buyer in all probability is going to end up in bankruptcy.
1130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A forum member (Newbie) sent me several bitcoin core wallets on: May 16, 2021, 12:37:06 PM
It is a scam!!
Do not wait for his next response, If you recieve another message just go ahead and delete it. Do not try to access those wallet as their might be a hidden malware. If you already have then run a virus scan and be safe.

Nothing is free in this world, there is always a hidden agenda behind everything.

I agree that it sounds like a scam. But is it even possible to implant a malware inside a Bitcoin core wallet? I don't think that the owner of the wallet can do that. As far as I know, the owner can only store coins and transact them. Anything other than coins can't be stored inside a core wallet. In case he is sending the wallet software, then I would have been more suspicious. But as of now, that doesn't seems to be the case. It is just a bunch of wallet addresses.
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Give reasons why ETH is better than BSC on: May 16, 2021, 12:25:45 PM
A number of projects have already migrated to BSC from the ETH chain due to the well known issues. Umbrella Network is one of them. But the market is already quite saturated, and Cardano and Polkadot are also hunting for market share. But as far as DeFi is concerned, I guess BSC is having an advantage compared to them. But ETH is currently on top, with more than 200 projects on its platform. Let's hope that BSC will be able to overtake it within the next 2-3 years.

The advantage for BSC here is that projects that are already listed in the ETH platforms can migrate to it, with hardly any change to the code. This level of compatibility is absent with the other competitors. But I am not comfortable with their algorithm which gives most power to the top 21 nodes (and I guess all of these nodes are owned by Binance).
1132  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 effect on your country's economy!!! on: May 16, 2021, 12:13:10 PM
Considering that our country is a third world country, it is suffering a lot because of the pandemic. Starting from hospitals running out of rooms and oxygen up to the increase count jobless citizens, we can already see how detrimental the pandemic has become.  The government ended up borrowing money from the world bank to suffice the needs of people specially for those who are in the poverty but soon, we will also pay the price as taxes began to go higher and higher. Our country's economy will surely be down for so long as it recovers from the damage the pandemic inflicted towards the whole nation.

Most of the third world countries are in similar position. Even here in India, things are not looking any better. Here the situation is really bad, because a large part of the population used to be employed in the informal sector. And the informal sector is in ruins ever since the pandemic started spreading more than a year ago. Most of the people who were employed in this sector have gone back to their native villages and are leading a hand to mouth existence with the help of handouts from the government and various charities.
1133  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla still an unprofitable automaker on: May 16, 2021, 12:01:13 PM
There are many different electric cars on the market, and we're not even considering hybrids, which combine a gas engine with an electric motor. What makes the Tesla Model 3 so special?

Most of the other EVs that are available in the market are budget options and not higher end models. Tesla EVs have a range of 400-500 km on a single charge. The same for the other EVs such as Nissan Leaf is around 200 km. That makes the other EVs unsuitable for intercity travel. Anyway, more automobile manufacturers are now coming up with higher end EV models. That should pose some challenge to Tesla in their price section.
1134  Economy / Economics / Re: Vitalik Buterin donated billions to India to fight Covid-19 crisis on: May 14, 2021, 11:02:44 AM
Sounds a bit unbelievable, but someone invented another in a series of unnecessary tokens, then inflated its price and donated it to someone who sold it and donated a fiat to charity Huh Although the end goal is more than noble, one should ask whether it is ethical to sell something that does not make too much sense to raise money to help others? ~snip~

Oh please... For the first time, a shitcoin has been used for some good purpose. During the current bull rally, shitcoins such as Dogecoin have amassed crazy valuations, benefiting those who manipulated their prices. Now what is wrong here, if Vitalik uses the proceeding from one such shitcoin to help the people in need? You would have been OK, had he pocketed the profits and purchased half a dozen luxury yachts for himself? All these years people were creating shitcoins and making billions for themselves. And when someone uses a shitcoin for a good purpose, all the hell breaks loose. I don't really understand you guys.
1135  Economy / Economics / Re: Vitalik Buterin donated billions to India to fight Covid-19 crisis on: May 14, 2021, 07:59:02 AM
This action is wonderful, hopefully, the donations received and will be received by India will serve as a great help to stop the spread and killing of lives caused by the pandemic. Maybe their government will consider the help of crypto in such situations. It is not really just because of the crisis but it is really financially useful towards development. Hopefully, this will also serve as an eye-opener so that they will not continue to ban or unban cryptocurrencies in their country. I hope they see more of the good it does.

The donations are not directed to the government, but towards an NGO which works for the COVID 19 victims. But still, I expect the Indian government to express gratitude towards Vitalik. $1 billion is just too huge. Whatever foreign donations India has received ever since the beginning of 2021 amount to a much lower amount when compared to this. I expect Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally express his gratitude towards Vitalik Buterin, for this unmatched act of kindness. I don't think that in the recorded history any of the billionaires have ever donated this much amount for a single cause.

One again confirms what we were saying for so long. Cryptocurrency is the savior of humanity.
1136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla will accept $ because they're environment friendly on: May 14, 2021, 07:49:43 AM
wake up he just did it so he can buy cheaper bitcoin now...

Nope.. it looks as if he is done with Bitcoin. Tesla has made around $1 billion in profit from Bitcoin after their investment in January 2021. Now they will probably repeat the same with Dogecoin. But I strongly suspect that eventually Elon will come up with his own cryptocurrency. All this drama about high electricity usage is just an excuse to dish out his own version of cryptocurrency. At least for a brief period, I have to admit that Elon successfully managed to fool everyone here in the cryptocurrency sector.
1137  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 14, 2021, 07:31:25 AM
Sports bodies such as FIFA and FIH took great care to eradicate the curse of match fixing with their respective sports. But the ICC is not very successful in repeating the same with cricket. One reason may be the presence of businessmen and politicians with various cricket boards. These people don't care about the sport and just want to make as much money as possible. The ICC have banned players for life, for taking part in match fixing. But their treatment is much more mild, when powerful people are involved. Remember what happened when the CSK management was caught in 2015, along with the RR bosses. The team was allowed back in to the IPL after just two years. Why it is always life ban for the players and just two years suspension for the franchises?
1138  Economy / Economics / Re: A Sudden Price Drop in The Crypto Markets on: May 14, 2021, 07:14:07 AM
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Bitcoin is in such a strong position now, thanks to its strong resistance when powerful people tried to destroy it. Elon Musk is not the first billionaire who tried to destroy Bitcoin and he will not be the last one. But the earlier ones realized that it is impossible to destroy Bitcoin, since it doesn't exist in the physical form. The decentralized nature of Bitcoin means that you can't destroy Bitcoin by taking down a central server or organization. And now Elon Musk will be taught a lesson which he will never forget in his life.
1139  Economy / Economics / Re: Could Bitcoin Smash Socialism in Venezuela? on: May 13, 2021, 07:36:38 PM
This is very far from politics. In an absolutely positive direction, it is a bit like Robin Hood, a "positive villain" from British legends. But in fact - all this is terrorism and systemic banditry. You have these groups, but our whole country not so long ago lived with such principles ... And the main thing is that a noticeable number of people believed that this was a good, right thing! Therefore, they dropped to the level of cattle in everything ...

India is divided in to 28 states and some of the states had the communist party ruling them for many decades. The central government had hardly any control over these states. In my own state, the Communist party was in power until 2018, when they were kicked out. I can understand what could have happened in your country, since my family lived under the red terror for so many decades. I can connect with most of the things - intimidation, brainwashing, lawlessness.etc.
1140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Man lost £20,000 in one night after becoming addicted to online gambling! on: May 13, 2021, 07:11:58 PM
Gambling firm doesn't give a ****,, they operate to earn profit and they will continue to do so as long as they are not violating the law.
It's our responsibility to gamble responsibly, so it's wrong or stupid to blame casinos or gambling sites for our mistakes.

Every single business cares about profits and no one sets up a business just for charity. They need to pay salary to their employees, and a significant chunk of the revenues goes as tax to the authorities. At the most, they can put up warning signs, offering help to those who are vulnerable to addiction. Apart from that I don't think that they can do anything about these incidents. If someone is careless about money, eventually he will end up bankrupt. And for that a casino is not necessary.
