601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi logo (my proposal) on: July 15, 2021, 01:16:14 PM
Mistakenly I voted for the last option (no logo needed). But now I think that it will be good to have a logo. Because with most of the fiat currencies, the sub-units have separate logos. For example, the US Dollar has both $ and ¢. Similarly for the Pound Sterling, separate symbols (logos) exist for both Pound and its subunit (penny). So it will be good to have similar symbols for Satoshi as well. But I don't like the options that are listed. IMO, the symbol should only have one letter. So a variation of "s" will be better instead of "sat".
602  Economy / Economics / Re: How many bitcoin is enough? on: July 15, 2021, 12:59:50 PM
Rather than asking how many BTC you want, it will be better to ask how much wealthy you want to be in the future. I don't want to reveal the exact amount of BTC I own. In 2017, when I purchased BTC for the first time I got 2.4 BTC in my wallet. After that, I received some from signature campaigns and freelancing, but spend a lot more by converting to fiat or gift card. Now my total holding is less than the original amount I had in 2017. But I am happy with whatever I got. Because my financial condition has already improved a lot due to BTC.
603  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: July 15, 2021, 11:46:11 AM
I don't know... I don't really trust the vaccine. There are cases where people got sick after it. There have even been fatalities. So maybe this isn't the end of the pandemic. And it's just getting started.  Huh

Yeah.. don't take the vaccine. IMO, it is better to leave the vaccines to those who deserve it. If you don't take the vaccine, then hopefully who need it badly will be able to get vaccinated. In my case, all of my family members got at least one dose of the vaccine (parents received both the doses - AstraZeneca in all cases). In my neighborhood no one complained of any serious adverse reaction after taking the vaccine. But then again, it is your decision. And you are free, to remain unvaccinated. Perhaps you are residing in a territory where the infection rates are extremely low.
604  Economy / Economics / Re: Can cryptocurrencies replace fiat currencies on: July 15, 2021, 11:32:34 AM
With some of the shortcomings that Bitcoin has, it seems impossible to replace fiat right now. Moreover, with Bitcoin transaction fees which are
quite high, it cannot be used to buy cheap goods. The most ideal for now is Bitcoin as a payment alternative, so fiat and Bitcoin can go together.
Some countries do plan to create their own cryptocurrencies or create digital currencies, there is a possibility that it can replace fiat.

The experienced bitcoiners hardly ever talk about Bitcoin replacing fiat. It is mostly the noobs who put up with such arguments, in order to increase their post count and to get one or two merit points. For Bitcoin to become widely acceptable, it doesn't need to replace fiat. I am sure that fiat currency and cryptocurrency can exist together in a mutually beneficial manner. The adoption of Bitcoin by PayPal is one of the best examples. Bitcoin has advantages and disadvantages compared to the fiat. Advantage is that it is protected against inflation and it is more suitable for large-sized transactions. But at the same time, it is not suitable for small, instant payments. So we need both the options available in the payments sector.
605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: July 15, 2021, 10:58:01 AM
... but this is harsh. Her mother died suddenly and unexpectedly, and she was informed of this whilst at the trials. She says she took marijuana as a coping mechanism, which is fair enough. It's a reason for her taking it, and is likely the reason why the ban is so short. And certainly the ban must stand, but this doesn't mean we shouldn't have sympathy.

People give all sort of excuses to avoid a ban. If she was so sad about the death of the family member, then she should have pulled out of the Olympics. American athletes in particular has been given all sort of exemptions for the Olympics. Athletes from other countries are banned for the silliest of the reasons, while American athletes such as Simone Biles were given exemptions for the same drug (in Simone's case, the excuse was that she need the drug for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)).
606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best 5 Altcoins to buy right now. My picks on: July 14, 2021, 02:11:02 PM
BNB, ETH and ADA used to be my favorites. But I would no longer recommend to invest in these coins, because currently they are valued at several times their fair valuation. Even if a correction wipes out more than 50% of their value, I don't think that they will become attractive again. I would rather go for some of the more fairly priced coins, such as Litecoin, Stellar, Monero, Internet Computer and Ethereum Classic. And I would avoid shitcoins such as Ripple, Doge and Tron like plague. Invest in them only if you want to end up bankrupt.
607  Economy / Economics / Re: Which Asian countries have the greatest influence on bitcoin? on: July 14, 2021, 01:58:44 PM
The fact that you are worried about what China does even though it's pretty much a negative one means that they are the most influential country in the Asian region in the case of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. I don't think it will be a permanent ban though, remember how they have been doing this kind of tug of war against bitcoin for a long time now? I think that they will give in some day.

The Chinese government is normally receptive towards new innovations. And that is one of the reasons why they had such startling economic growth between 1990 and 2010. But the government is quite authoritarian and doesn't want a decentralized asset such as Bitcoin circulating in its territory, as it can create issues for the heavily manipulated mainstream market in that country. Now with the introduction of the digital Yuan (eCNY), the Chinese government is confident that they will be able to replace Bitcoin with CBDC (eCNY in this case).
608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What if Elon musk launches his own coin? on: July 14, 2021, 01:46:33 PM
I don't think that Elon will take the big risk of creating his own cryptocurrency. He is already quite occupied with various tasks from Tesla and SpaceX. He can endorse a new project, but I don't think that it will be possible for him to be part of a new cryptocurrency project. The risk is too high and the potential returns are not that great. And the chances of failure are high as well. Because if his coin fails to perform in the market, then it will tarnish his reputation. Also, since Elon is such an egoistic individual, he will not take such a defeat lightly.
609  Economy / Economics / Re: How long will it take for CBDCs to become a reality? on: July 14, 2021, 01:34:25 PM
For a long time, figures have been cited that now about 80 percent of all states are conducting research on the introduction of digitized currencies into their economies, which are called stable coins of the central banks of these states.
Financial issues and the introduction of new types of means of payment do not tolerate errors. Although the United States and the countries of the European Union have already noted their lag on this issue from China, which for several years has overtaken other countries in terms of their implementation, and therefore will have an advantage in this matter. Therefore, they are trying to accelerate the implementation of CBDC. I think that over the next few years, CBDCs will appear en masse in many states.

I don't have any issues in central banks introducing their CBDCs. My issue is that since the CBDCs are inferior to existing set of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, the government may try to scuttle the competition by banning the latter category of currencies. And this has already happened in countries such as China and Vietnam. Now something like this happening in democratic countries is low, but still we can't completely rule out such a possibility. Any such measure can make the lives of ordinary cryptocurrency users more difficult.
610  Economy / Economics / Re: Permanent residence in El Salvador for crypto entrepreneurs on: July 14, 2021, 01:22:09 PM
They intervene because they are worried on what will happen on El salvador if major collapsed happen and we can't deny that this events always happen every year. And I can't also blame other country be worried about them some goverments in other big countries doesn't believe the potential of bitcoin so maybe this is a good wake up call to other nation that if this country became successful when adopting bitcoin then maybe this will be their basis to adopt it on their systems.

If a financial collapse occur in El Salvador, then they the other nations need to worry about it? Latin America is full of failed economies such as Venezuela and Ecuador. And in none of these cases, cryptocurrency was involved. If a financial collapse occurs in El Salvador (although there is hardly any chance of that occurring), the Salvadoran public know how to deal with it. The so called neighboring countries should worry about their own economies first. From what I can see, they are not doing that good.
611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your Average Bitcoin Buying Price? on: July 14, 2021, 01:10:15 PM
I am one of those lucky guys, who got Bitcoin at less than $1,000 per coin. I made the purchase in January 2017, when the exchange rates were around $900 per coin. If my memory is correct, then I paid a markup of around 5% in Localbitcoins. So in the end, the purchase price came to around $950 per coin. Back then, I had almost called off the purchase, because 5% commission is a bit too much. But now looking back, I am quite relieved that I went ahead with the trade. Else, it would have been a big loss for me. Anyway, that was the only occasion when I purchased BTC with fiat.
612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Identifying Satoshi Would Be a BAD Thing on: July 14, 2021, 12:57:03 PM
Given the increasing hostility from various governments towards cryptocurrency, I don't think that it will be a good idea for Satoshi to reveal himself. It will be risky for him as an individual, and for the cryptocurrency community as well. The best thing to do is to stay anonymous, until there is a financial revolution and Bitcoin becomes one of the widely accepted global currencies. And trust me, that day may not be far off. Given the inflated spending from the governments, fiat currency would soon become less worthy than the toilet paper.
613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why some are still loosing money in crypto on: July 14, 2021, 08:16:36 AM
  • You follow a persons advice through his social account post example is Elon musk
  • You still believe that a certain coin will come back from the dead even though you already knew its a scam
  • you just follow your instinct and never make single research
  • emotions still control you to decided

These arguments are not just applicable with cryptocurrency, but in other markets as well. I have seen my friends incurring huge losses after investing in blue-chip stocks at the advice of self-proclaimed market experts. Also, I have seen people investing in certain worthless stocks, even after their value goes down by 90% or 95%. They think that since these stocks have gone down by so much, eventually they have to go up. But that almost never happens. Even experienced investors can make these sort of mistakes.
614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Crypto be more valuable than gold? on: July 14, 2021, 07:25:56 AM
It already is. New generation is not interested in tangible assets like storing gold, they are more invested in digital cryptocurrency and such. Give few years or less, crypto market capitualization will get much bigger than gold or even real estate. Take into account the amount of years gold had compare to crypto and you will see how fast it's growing.

Younger generation may be more interested in assets such as Bitcoin and alts. But they have limited purchasing power. The purchasing power lies with older generations, and many of them are averse to such assets. So in terms of absolute valuation, we can expect "traditional" assets such as gold and platinum to have the upper hand, for some more time. In order for the situation to change, Bitcoin needs to be more palatable for the older generation investors. But with the current level of volatility, it is going to be difficult.
615  Economy / Economics / Re: COVID advanced the world into the future on: July 14, 2021, 07:15:18 AM
The virus is going to be with us forever as not everyone is going to take the vaccine whether because they do not want to or simply because they do not have access to it and then the virus will mutate to the point another vaccine will be necessary beginning a game of cat and mouse of which there is no escape, so the best we can do is to take the precautions necessary so we do not get it and if we do we should avoid transmitting the virus to other people.

If the population gets vaccinated quickly then the virus will be contained and there will be no more mutations. But what happened is that rich countries such as United States and United Kingdom hoarded more vaccines than they need, while the poor countries faced a lot of difficulties in procuring enough doses to vaccinate their population. And since large number of people were not vaccinated, the virus was able to mutate in countries such as India and Brazil. And the irony is that eventually these mutated strains made their way to the same developed countries which hoarded the vaccines.
616  Economy / Economics / Re: Risk of Inflation in Economy. on: July 14, 2021, 06:40:04 AM
Since the outbreak of the pandemic until now, the prices of commodities in my country have increased, the life of farmers like me is really quite bad, life is difficult, the pandemic leads to unemployment. If you don't go anywhere, you can't do anything, so where can you get money to buy food, food, etc. while the value of the goods was increasing, I felt miserable.

You have mentioned that you are a farmer? In that case, inflation is more beneficial for you, right? The price of your agricultural produce will go up, and in the end you will be left with more cash in hand. I understand that the expenses also might have gone up - such as transport, fertilizer and pesticide. But the increase in price of output should more than make up for that. In my country, the farmers are more worried about aspects such as lockdowns and restrictions in movement, and inflation is not a big issue right now.
617  Economy / Economics / Re: Can cryptocurrencies replace fiat currencies on: July 14, 2021, 06:26:26 AM
Well, coexistence is much better than the alternative because if cryptocurrency were to replace fiat, a lot of people that don't use electronics will be left behind unless the government does the impossible and takes care of these marginalized people and that's just one part of the problem, economy will be on hot water for a really long time because they will have to fill the void that was left by fiat.

Coexistence is the only option, IMO. A few years ago, Sweden and some of the other countries wanted to replace physical cash completely with digital cash (fiat in both cases). But after a few years of compulsion, they just gave up that effort, as a lot of people simply refused to trust digital cash. Especially the elderly people find it very difficult to use their mobile phones to make payments. The same issue will arise with cryptocurrency as well. In fact, it is one of the reasons why we don't have a lot of senior citizens using cryptocurrency.
618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: July 14, 2021, 06:10:15 AM
This thread will be so complicated thread since there are too many sports for the Olympics. Should we have a limit for the topic to discuss? Because I think we will have many different sports predictions. How if we have a limit the discussion about the prediction of country's achievement only or about the Olympic in general? So we will have no specific sports prediction here in this thread.

It is not practical to set up separate threads to discuss each of the sport, since there are a total of 50 disciplines and 33 sports being offered this time. I think we can discuss both the medal tally and the individual sports in this thread, as setting up separate threads for all these will dilute the discussion. After all, all these topics are related to each other. If the moderators can keep the thread away from the spammers and shit posters, then it will be easy to navigate between the different sports and sub-topics.
619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 13, 2021, 08:19:33 PM
Ireland got their first win against South Africa in ODI cricket. They played a well balanced game today and deserve the victory. Although the first match was abandoned for rain but Ireland has also batted well in that match. Beside the low order batting lineup, South Africa need to improve their bowling too. Can't say how they will perform in the last ODI but I would like to keep them (Ireland) ahead in that match.

Ireland is showing a lot of improvement. Their batting is showing a lot of depth. Earlier, they would just fold up in case Paul Stirling get out. But this time, Stirling fell cheaply, and Porterfield was not available due to injury. And yet Balbirnie and Tector batted very sensibly, with Dockrell adding some quick runs in the end. And in the bowling department, Craig Young was exceptional. And South Africa should blame themselves. They took the match very casually and decided to rest both Ngidi and Quinton de Kock.
620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 13, 2021, 08:03:21 PM
They started Women's T20 Challenge /WIPL back in 2018 with 2 teams and then added 1 more team. If you look at the last 2020 season they only played 4 games, included final , sounds like a joke to me. The way BCCI conducting business it does look like India lack enough players in domestic arena or they are just ignoring Women cricket.  .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Women%27s_T20_Challenge

The T20 challenge is not WIPL. It is just a handful of exhibition matches and are not played at franchise-level (unlike the case with WBBL). They can start the WIPL with a small number of teams, so that at least the top players get an opportunity to play at franchise level. Else, Australia and England will continue with their dominance in the women's game. Actually the BCCI don't need to spend any of their money. Whatever expenses are there will be covered by the broadcasters and the sponsors.
