701  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: July 04, 2021, 05:37:41 PM
This condition is indeed very tiring, the new strain that appears is very disturbing.  However, it seems that not all people are aware or think that it is just a fabrication and fraud.  It is not my capacity to describe it but many people believe this is just a form of world conspiracy to weaken other countries and become the supreme ruler over all countries with their economic level. My country has also started to lock down in several cities.  This greatly affects the economy of the city which is locked down.

I agree that it is tiring. But do we have any other option? The Delta strain (that was first reported from India) is extremely contagious and it is more lethal to young people. Unless the majority population is vaccinated, there is a requirement of lockdowns and other containment measures, if the strain is spreading in a particular region. Obviously this may push a lot of people to poverty. Even here in India, everyday I am hearing reports of people literally starving, because they can't go out to work (because of the lockdowns).
702  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 04, 2021, 05:25:39 PM
No i didn't hear this, second string team  Grin poor Indian team, they didn't deserve this lol

Its funny and kinda sad too, i do feel bad for Ranatunga as he led the World Champion team back in the days but it would be better if he wake up from his sleep. His recent statements coming out becaue of frustration IMO, so no one should give much footage to such statements.

Last i remember he was sacked due to corruption charges? Would be better if he and other legends start taking care of cricket in sri lanka instead of involving in politics and corruption.

Imagine what happens when the "second string" Indian team whitewashes them 3-0, and that too in their country. In that case, Sri Lanka should not be playing against India, right? Ranatunga seems to be bitter, because his political career ended prematurely and he seems to be going through "na ghar ka, na ghat ka" phase of his life. He tried hard for a position within the SLCB, but was not successful in securing it. BTW, Sri Lanka is now demoted as the weakest test team in Asia, and even Bangladesh and Afghanistan have overtaken them.
703  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-06-23] South Korea seizes crypto assets from wealthy tax dodgers on: July 04, 2021, 02:29:52 PM
If they have evaded the taxes, they will face the music. Nothing can be done about it. But the numbers sound a little bit odd for me. How can the authorities seize ₩500 million from the TV host, when the due amount is just ₩20 million? Even after penalty, I really doubt whether the updated tax bill will come up to more than 10% of the amount that is seized. Same with the doctor as well. ₩2,800 million worth of assets were seized, although the pending amount was just ₩17 million. One thing is sure. The tax authority is going to face some tough lawsuits, at least from some of the individuals mentioned here.
704  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gov must have power to reverse transactions, says co-chair of blockchain caucus on: July 04, 2021, 02:14:25 PM
As much as I absolutely hate that the things some dinosaur who doesn't understand bitcoin or cryptography in the slightest says matter to me, they do. Of course we know he can't reverse transactions as he says he wants, but he can certainly do a bunch of other things to make my life difficult, even as someone who has never used a centralized exchange and has never completed KYC. He can push to criminalize anonymous transactions altogether, instantly making me a criminal despite doing nothing wrong. He can continue to push for agencies such as the FBI and CIA to work with blockchain analysis companies to deanonymize all transactions and all bitcoin users.

The US government will quite happily spy on you, monitor your behavior, raid your property, seize your assets, all without any actual proof of a crime. If morons like this senator make privacy illegal, then such things will only get worse, regardless of the fact that they can't actually impact the bitcoin protocol.

If a Blockchain transaction is flagged as "suspicious", then the authorities have the right to ask for help from various blockchain analysis companies to trace down the users behind the transfer. But they can't outlaw all the anonymous transactions. That would be against the constitutional rights guaranteed to US citizens. Recently, the FBI requested a judge in California to attach all the assets they found while raiding a safe deposit box business. The judge turned down their request, saying that the FBI first need to submit evidence to prove that the assets found in such safe deposit boxes were linked to illegal business. The same would be applicable to anonymous transactions. In each case, the FBI need to prove that the transactions were linked to some sort of illegal activity.
705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mircea Popescu died leaving 1 Million BTC behind? on: July 04, 2021, 02:01:52 PM
Some will say that nothing in this world happens by accident, but if we reject conspiracy theories - I don't see how all these events are connected unless EM works for the Chinese, and at the same time they have a special team of assassins who eliminate those who have some evidence against them.

It all sounds to me like another in a series of films from the Mission Impossible series - especially since you mention the G7 at the end - which is actually just a cover for those who actually decide everything. At the end, who can prove that JM and Popescu were killed when they both died in a very appropriate way - one in a prison cell and the other in the depths of the ocean, the truth is as they presented it, believe it or not, nothing will change.

In McAfee's case, it is clear that he committed suicide. He had previously given hints as well. Being an such an egoistic person, getting deported to the United States was something which he could not get himself adjusted to. Now the investigators will have a hard time in recovering the coins which he made during the ICO boom. However, the case of Mircea Popescu looks very suspicious. What are the chances that someone like him would venture alone in to a section of the beach which is known to be dangerous?
706  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fully vaccinated individuals now spared of masks in the casinos in Vegas on: July 04, 2021, 01:37:07 PM
Yes, it strengthens the immune system in our body. But before we got a strong immune system, a new immune from the vaccine needs to introduce itself to the old immune system in our body and there should be an impact that can happen to our body because the type of each immune is different. Our body will react with an unknown immune.

Maybe I can illustrate like this. We lived with 5 family members and we met a new friend and brought him to our house. If that person can introduce himself very well to other family members, all family members will welcome him. But if not, maybe one or more family members will have distances from him and need time before that person can blend with our family.

So related to the vaccine, it will need time before it can blend to the old immunity on ourselves and it might get an impact to us such as fever, dizziness, sleepy, chills. But if everything is okay and we do not have comorbid, that vaccine can blend perfectly in our body and protect us from the virus.

Your point is perfectly understandable. And this is one of the issues during vaccination. It takes 1-2 weeks for the vaccine to produce the antibodies within the body of the recipient. And the issue is that during this time the natural immunity may get weakened. The recipient may suffer from high fever, muscle spasms and other adverse reactions. If the recipient gets infected with COVID during this period, then his medical condition may get worsened. The only solution is to stay isolated for at least 7-8 days after receiving the vaccine (I don't know how practical this is, for blue collar workers).
707  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 04, 2021, 01:25:29 PM
The Sri Lankan players will be happy with the weather and they might be praying for the weather interruption throughout the series and they finally got when they were struggling, if the delay was before the start of the innings they would have saved themselves from the embarrassment of 132 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

The next series is between England and India right.

It looks like today is not their lucky day. Play has resumed at Bristol, with Sri Lanka struggling at 141/8. Dushmantha Chameera and Dasun Shanaka are at the crease and England is trying really hard to get the remaining two wickets (there is a sense of urgency now, as it is expected that there will be more rain interruptions later). When a mediocre bowler like Tom Curran dismantles the Sri Lankan batting lineup, you can imagine how horribly they have performed in this series. England is missing more than half a dozen of their regular players, and still they will end up with a 3-0 series win.
708  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 04, 2021, 01:13:06 PM
After watching the first match, i thought West Indies would win the series even thought it might be close matches because they have a really strong team but they failed to perform as a team during crucial times and and props should be given to the team to compose everything fast and perform well.

One of the issues that I have noticed with the current West Indies team is that they are ageing. Look at the age of the main players - Chris Gayle is 41 years old, while Fidel Edwards is 39. Kieron Pollard and Andre Russel are now in their mid-30s. Lendl Simmons is 36 and Dwayne Bravo is 37. I strongly suspect that this may be one of the reasons why they are struggling to chase even moderate targets. Younger players such as Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer are there, but it is the seniors who form the backbone of the team.
709  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: July 04, 2021, 01:01:11 PM
Actually, it really depends on us and what we do that affects our economy. So if we really want poverty to decrease, cannot only expect
government assistance. We are the ones who can change our lives, because everyone has the same time of day, so what we do during
the 24 hours determines the future. We must be able to do something useful, because successful people are not lazy, they work hard to
use the time they have to do useful things.

Unfortunately, the world seems to be moving in the opposite direction. More and more governments are coming up with populist budgets (i.e more handouts to the poor, and more taxes to the middle class and rich). The problem with this model is that hard working and successful people are being penalized and the unproductive population is getting rewarded. If the trend continues for the long term, then eventually it will result in the reduction in tax paying population. Either they will stop working, or they will simply migrate to other countries with saner tax policies.
710  Economy / Economics / Re: In COVID-19 everyone needs motivation on: July 04, 2021, 12:49:08 PM
That section of people that you were mentioning was enough to cause the problem to further explode look at USA having a gathering during the height of the pandemic, after the event, cases spiked. Another example is India, I forgot the event that a lot of people went too but they were also enough to cause a big spike to the infection. In my country, the problem is that the government is incompetent and they have a delayed, exaggerated and sometimes suppressed counting of the cases so the people gets confused.

In India, the second wave first started with the farmer protests (where Delta variant was first reported) and then spread all over the country as a result of the state elections and the Kumbh festival. The government became complacent, after the first wave ebbed after 3rd quarter of 2020. The second wave hit India, when no one was really prepared for it. After handling the first wave (mid-2020) so well, the Indian healthcare system simply collapsed (at least in some of the states) during the second wave of April-May 2021.
711  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: July 04, 2021, 12:37:04 PM
BCCI has no idea what is happening in India? The way they have scheduled matches makes me believe that India is pandemic free. Yeah! If those match happen players will get paid but if any one of them gets cancelled they will not. Anyways I do not have time to watch domestic cricket.

The Indian domestic cricket season for men will start from mid-October onwards, and the BCCI is hoping that the pandemic will be under control by then. It may be optimistic, but given the daily vaccination numbers, I have hope. Even the experts are saying that the chances of a third wave is very small, since a majority of the population has been exposed to the virus till now. As of now, only around 4.8% of the population has been fully vaccinated (with another 16% receiving one dose of the vaccine). The numbers are too low, but by October, the government thinks that they will be able to inoculate a large fraction of the population.
712  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: July 04, 2021, 12:25:42 PM
This remains to be a dumb idea even though you keep posting it.  That's not how any of this works.  If it is, go find all the times the UK has refused to deport someone because the UK wanted to keep the money the criminals stole and brought to the UK and post them here.  You won't find any because that's not how it works.  Even among conspiracy theories, this one is stupid.

UK don't want to keep the money. But they are OK, if the money is spent in that jurisdiction. There is nothing wrong in what beerlover posted, because I know that during the last 3 decades dozens of financial criminals have settled down in the UK. And these scammers have migrated to the UK from all around the world, including African countries, China, India, Greece, Russia.etc. Being an Indian, I would say that the UK's policy of protecting criminals like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi (who have stolen billions of $$ worth of funds from the Indian banks) is extremely disappointing.
713  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: July 02, 2021, 10:33:55 AM
ALl exchange has your coins because you don't own your keys.

This is why from the start this has been the concern of old timers here to educate people not to let exchange keeping their funds .

But what? people are hard headed and loves following their stupidity than security .

Well.. I learnt this the hard way in 2018, when Wex.nz went down along with my LTC stash. I was storing my coins in the exchange wallet, because I was too lazy to create an online wallet for Litecoin. And the same happened once more in 2019, when Cryptopia closed down. I lost whatever LTC remained after 2018. And it saddens me that a lot of noobs repeat the mistake that I did in 2018 and 2019. Setting up an online wallet doesn't take much time. At the most you need 10-15 minutes. But once done, it will give you peace of mind.
714  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: July 02, 2021, 09:21:23 AM
It is better to divide it into two groups. We don't have to watch unequal or one-sided series anymore. Many may say that small teams play against big teams to enhance their experience. I don't think so. Smaller teams lost by an innings in most matches against big teams. They are gaining experience but their performance is not improving. I am not interested in watching Test series of smaller countries with India, New Zealand England and Australia.

Once in a while teams from the first division should play against teams in the second division. So we can have series between teams such as Australia and West Indies, and between India and Sri Lanka. But the same should be applicable to teams from the second division. They should also be willing to play matches against smaller teams such as Scotland and Netherlands (i.e from the third division). Now how many of these matches need to be played in a 2 year cycle can be decided by the boards that are involved. I would limit it to just one series of two matches.
715  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey agree to talk about bitcoin at an event in July on: July 02, 2021, 07:46:44 AM
The OP has given zero details about the event. So I did some websearch on my own and found out the basics. The event is being organized by Crypto Council for Innovation (CCI) and sponsored by business firms such as Paradigm, ARK and Square. It is known as “The B Word” , and is scheduled to take place on 21st July. And here is the original tweet, in which Elon and Jack made the announcement:

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1408244133400023048

Don't hold your hopes high on these two. They have a reputation of being unreliable and untrustworthy.
716  Economy / Economics / Re: Permanent residence in El Salvador for crypto entrepreneurs on: July 02, 2021, 06:55:47 AM
Im sure that Salvador is not a country there i want to be a resident

I have the same opinion. They have made Bitcoin the legal tender and during the last 2-3 years, there have been a sharp reduction in crime rate. But these things are not enough to compel me to move to that country. First and foremost priority for me is my security. It is something that doesn't have a price tag. And historically, El Salvador doesn't have a good reputation on that sector. Let a few thousand entrepreneurs move to El Salvador. If everything works out for them, then I will consider my options after a couple of years.
717  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 02, 2021, 05:55:02 AM
You are right. This is due to the presence of extra star players in the squad. All players want to score for themselves. And wants to increase his self-esteem. Mbappe took a lot of useless shots. Moreover, the midfielders did not cooperate properly. The coach should have coordinated the players before arranging a good squad. Then maybe France could have won the title.

If you remember, the third goal by Switzerland in regulation time (which allowed them to equalize) resulted from a mistake from the part of Kylian Mbappé. As usual, he didn't passed the ball and one of the Switzerland players eventually managed to snatch the ball from him and launch a counterattack. Also, it surprised me that with a score of 3-2 then, France had hardly anyone focusing on the defense. Everyone wanted to score another goal and the Swiss players made use of this opportunity to equalize (and eventually managed to win on penalty shootout).
718  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 02, 2021, 04:56:44 AM
After scoring 167 runs in the first wicket partnership, the Indian players lost all their wickets for 231 runs. It is clear from this that the Indian players are not very experienced. Only for Shefali Verma's extraordinary performance has the Indian team been saved from certain defeat. India's women's cricket needs to be further developed. They are still weak against teams like England and Australia.

As I have posted earlier, the women's game is not a priority for BCCI. Both the ECB and CA has setup franchise T20 leagues for women players. But the BCCI has refused to organize the WIPL (although indications are that the BCCI would suffer no additional expense if they do so). And despite India being the no.1 ranked team in men's cricket, their women's team have even failed to secure automatic qualification for the women's world cup. Even during the last world cup, they had to play the qualifier tournament to gain entry.
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happen if US ban cryptocurrencies? on: July 01, 2021, 06:59:53 PM
It is not possible for a government to ban cryptocurrency, because it doesn't exist in physical form. Despite the name "coin", cryptocurrency exists in the form of codes written in various computer languages such as C++ and Haskell. It is not possible to destroy these codes, once they are written. And in order to access the coins, the user needs another set of codes (private key). Once again, the government can't ban or seize these codes, since they exist only in digital form. And unlike bank accounts and demat accounts, these codes don't have any direct link with the user.

Yes you are saying based on the title of ops post. Op should say maybe banning of exchanges in there jurisdiction like UK have announced on binance. Definitely it won't be possible to ban cryptocurrency and no government can do such. They can only restrict users in there home or country not to indulge but people will still find means to it. cryptocurrency can't be banned only exchanges.

They can ban the exchanges. But how much practical is that going to be? There are dozens of P2P exchanges, which doesn't require any KYC verification. Such sites may not be as reliable as the mainstream exchanges, and the chances of getting scammed may be higher. But that is not going to deter most of the users. Now if you are going to argue that the authorities can simply track the bank transactions, then the users may rely on physical cash, or gift cards. In the end, the government will lose out on tax money. There will be no other impact from the ban.
720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Do You Guys Think About So-Called "Shit-coin" ? on: July 01, 2021, 06:42:35 PM
Whether an altcoin is a shitcoin is purely subjective, so there will be no consensus about the definition and stuff. For Bitcoin maximalist, there is only Bitcoin, and the rest is altcoin/shitcoin, it's pretty much the same. However, for me, I have to try it first. If it works and I have a good experience using the particular coin (to buy goods and services), I won't call it shitcoin.

In that case I must be a Bitcoin maximalist. Out of the 10,000 plus altcoins, I would classify 98% to 99% of them as shitcoins. If a coin doesn't have unique idea, and in case it doesn't have a real life usage, then the best label for it is "shitcoin". Unfortunately, the vast majority of the circulating altcoins belong to this category. Obviously you are not going to like the truth and may call those who disagree as "Bitcoin maximalists". But the simple fact is that there are too many coins out there and almost all of them are useless and survive only on hype.
