It's not a crazy carousel ride. You can prove it to yourself by taking a ball, or an orange or grapefruit, and setting it on a table. Then stand there and turn the ball (or whatever) 360 degrees during a 24-hour period. No spinning ball, no carousel ride. The reason why the speeds you talk about seem to be fast is, you forgot to calculate in the distances and the great expanses.
