Why do people hate?

This is a wellknown story:

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all"

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

But why do we so easily succumb to feed the evil wolf? Why do we hate and feed it and react hatefull towards others?

People choose to follow the evil wolf when they are either struck by a disastrous past (like people who lose their near/dear ones in a tragedy) or for man's worst enemy (MONEY). Some choose it for pleasure as well and that's when they turn cruel towards all. Any trait like being selfish, showing hatred, mocking a person who is injured represents evil and even if the person has not learnt to hate, they react this way as that shows their upbringing or the things they have seen in life.

Immaturity, jealousy, and ignorance is a lot of it.  Mostly nowadays simpletons call anyone they don't like a hater so almost everyone is a "hater" in someone else's eyes.

Nice story. It's really made me think deep inside of me. It's really upto us that which wolf we want to feed. It actually depend upon the kind of person heor she is? Good or bad human being.

most hating come from nervousness, and nervousness come from problem related to the brain health, many understimate that, the brain need continuos vitamin and mineral, good food to stay well

you noticed that someone is more restless(and in the end it will result in hating many more thing and hating much easy)when he is  tired and fatigued?

good food and good rest are essential

True, but some get all these nutrients and still do hate. Genetics and more play a big role, also bad luck after bad luck can frustrate anyone.

Most people don't really hate when they talk about hate. True hatred is like red burning rage. It is a sickness that has way more strength than something like simple disagreement.

Well well well looks like op has landed on the single greatest misconception that has plagued humanity as a whole from the moment of its birth 
 
The fight between the 2 wolves is one that cannot be won by either side lest it leads to the destruction of both wolves along with the entity hosting the fight. The underlying background of reality is one and uniform, any act of will creates a distortion in this uniformity. The nature of the act, whether good or bad, is irrelevant because at the same moment one is created, its counterpart is also automatically created so that the sum still leads to neutrality. So, the reality of someone who 'loves' right from the start means that a reality of someone who 'hates' was created somewhere. In truth, both realities only exist within the entity that uses will. However because the world is trying to achieve oneness using force and every single human is part of that world, it might not be immediately obvious to the one who 'loves' that he/she also 'hates' at that exact moment. The general tendency is to externalize that hate onto another entity.

So if I want the world to love more, I should hate more to bring the balance towards a more loving world around me? Only to be consumed by the hate within me?

Love and hate are emotions, I agree you cannot eradicate the feelings of hate and only love. I too have my dark side. But The balance of the universe is not in danger if all will try to solve things without giving in to their most primary feelings. There is enough love for all of us to share and live in peace. But it will be love that leads us to hate and anger. If we have to divide and it is at the cost of the ones you hold dear, that is where the love is hurt and the hate flows, for love. I do not condemn those who hate, but hate is something to easily taken and enforced upon, causing dehumification and segregation. People hate because of the wrong reasons, they hate the scapegoat just because, there has to be a scapegoat and god forbids it should be you, so it is always another and better yet a minority.

The wolf story is about what you do with your feelings, you should never listen to the bad wolf. You can let him out once in a while, but always be aware. Be kind to the world and those around you, doing harm will harm the whole. Do not let yourself be harmed, for then you will not only be feeding your own bad wolf, but also the bad wolf of the ones harming you. What is harmfull to you is personal, but there is a worldwide concensus in what is good and what is bad. Do question all your actions, especially the actions requested by others.

In my opinion, people hate because of ignorance.
We hate something we don't understand, because it is different from our worldview or culture.
Very good example is Islam and Muslim people.
Some people hate them because they think, based on incomplete or false information, that the Qur'an is a bad book that hate other religions and faith, and that all Muslims are necessarily bad and intolerant people.

It's not just culture that people can hate on. There are many many things that one could despise. I think that it all comes down to what we define as hate, because I think that hating could be camouflaged by simply saying that you don't like something.

Jealousy would be the first and foremost reason for hating anyone. As jealousy can be divided into many parts it can be personal or professional. Nobody would love to see someone is doing better then them so it results in hating a person and hating is much more easier then loving someone.

Only cheap people would hate..Becoz that's that's the cheapest thing they can do i guess..Loving someone requires more courage then hating someone which people usually don't have If u hate people don't expect anything better in return you will be getting the same thing.

People hate others is only because they are being getting hated by others..its just a rubbish mindset that if everyone is hating me then whats wrong in hating others? Every one wants that they should be treated by love but if you are hating someone how can you expect love in return?

I believe that one of the main reasons people either jump to conclusions about a person’s character or just outright hate them for no reason at all is because we see this as a defense mechanism. Whether it is done subconsciously or the individual is completely cognizant of their actions, we defend ourselves and our own personal hatred by hating others.
