What do you guys think of this "patronage" idea:

http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=762.msg4101#msg4101

This may/may not work to get funds from current SpreadCoin enthusiasts, but it is unlikely to bring new people to the party.

I think you need to bring new money in, and the best way to do that is to give them hope of future profit.

Some sort of coin offering is in order. Even failed ICOs are bringing in more than $100,000 which is far, far more than you will likely get through patronage.

http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=762.msg4101#msg4101

I think this is a good idea! Partially because I have already donated some and now I can reap the benefits.  Cool Cool As I alluded to earlier this month, I was a bit strapped for cash. But I will be donating later this month.

I think the regularity of the preview wallets will really help build the community. $20 dollars is not a lot, so I think that people will be willing to pay that much. Also, if people want to see source code sooner than when you release it, they have the option now!

It might not work for new people at the higher levels, but I bet people would be willing to donate $20 dollars to see previews. Meh, these are all speculations... we will just have to wait and see!

I think this ushers in a new era of Spreadcoin development. If you are consistent with your previews and such, people will jump on board because they are super excited to see all of the presents you will be handing out.  Grin

Fine, fine. If you insist, I will do an ICO  Roll Eyes

I have 3k SPR sitting around right now (all I'm willing to sell)... my ICO price is 90K sats, and 50% of all proceeds will go to the dev.  Grin

 Cool
LMAO, I love how all the ICO-defenders suddenly pop up,
just because someone dares to play the game by different rules.

I'm enjoying this.  Cheesy

The real peoples backing is very limited here to find a few who would be willing to join in with ur patronage. In the final end, none other but u will be sending donations to preview ur own commits.  Wink Haha. Better do what XBC has done. Coins in dev possession should be translated to an exchange and sold out as regular ICO proceeds from which should then be pooled together to fund developments.

That such a tiny community like that of spreadcoin still manages to bring in the kind of support that I've seen is very promising and disproves everything you said.
Imagine what will happen once I branch out a little bit and connect with other altcoin communities?

After all, the spreadwallet IS a multicoin project.
The spreadminer will be a multicoin project.
And servicenodes will have multicoin-ability at their core.

Who do you think will fund spreadwallet's support for monero or ethereum?
We here?

Think again!  Cool

Even failed ICOs are bringing in more than $100,000 which is far, far more than you will likely get through patronage.

That's what I don't understand about ICOs, lol.
How can something that has failed still bring in money?
Sounds horribly anti-capitalistic to me.
I don't wanna have any part in this.

BTW @just2laff, rhinomonkey, pokeytex and sugarfly

Please tell me your favorite altcoins (next to SPR and BTC ofcourse) that you want to see listed in the spreadwallet rightaway.

Dissecting an altcoin (it's specifics, network messages, behaviour etc) as part of "altcoin taxonomy" takes up some time, and is an ongoing process, and I don't want to waste it on altcoins that none of my patrons find useful right now!

Currently I am hard-coding "altcoin-genetics" like this:

Code:
QMap<QString, CoinDataSet> COIN::initMap(){
    QMap<QString, CoinDataSet> map;

    map.insert("SPR", {"Spreadcoin",1,"SpreadX11",41678,"4F3C5CBB",70019,3,

This data structure will get way more detailled and extensive in the future. Many parameters are still missing.
At some point this data will be placed outside the program as a configuration file (XML).
People will then have the possibility to add their own coins if they have specific ("complete") knowledge about its "internals".

But right now I need to give any altcoin the proper screening/dissection to be able to make it run within the spreadwallet.
It's literally like biological taxonomy.
Some coins are so related with each other that they only differ in one byte.
Others deviate quite a bit from each other...

If I had it my way, we wouldn't tap into my "favorite coins" necessarily. For instance I like Shadowcash, but I'm not sure strategically it's the best option. I would have you focus on more popular coins so as to tap into their communities/ liquidity. I'm not entirely sure which those may be... DASH? Doge?

Perhaps some research is in order to find the most posted in forums... or most visited... or most number of unique posters in the forum?

You are right, I will probably go with a mixture between popularity and (technical) exceptionality.

E.g. I am adding LTC / DOGE because of the AUX-POW relationship (merge-mining) they have, which is highly interesting to dissect and visualize (which LTC blocks have provided POW for which DOGE blocks, etc...)

(Still, my offer still stands, if one of my patrons wants a specific altcoin listed, just tell me about it.)

There are hardly ever many sell walls up since miners usually just dump on the market, so even tiny amounts of BTC push the price way up. Fun to watch  Grin

One of the really great things about the current video and future videos is that they will be able to be used as marketing materials.

Minerpage mentioned a while back that this was an area of focus that Spreadcoin could use some improvement in. With videos, some of the community members can take it upon themselves to let people know about the project - with evidence of stuff going on. We might even be able to put together an unofficial PR team in the near future with all of the new materials.  Smiley

If Servicenodes were available, I'm sure a lot of people around here would set-up a fair few and donate most of their profits (after hosting costs).

You would probably see donations in the region of $3,000 to $7,000 / month, mainly because it would end up being a self funding mechanism where more development would equal higher price, would generate higher value donations, would generate more Bittrex activity.

Servicenodes would become the main patrons.
