SA would definitely be unhappy inspite of having 8 wickets in hand they did not end up even 300 runs in 50 overs. They would have wanted their batsman to after bowling even if they would have lost wicket it was fine. But credit goes to Pak bowlers who helped them to keep SA under 300 and won the match by 5 wickets and 5 balls remaining.

300+ score was easier but South Africa did not played well that is the truth. No team would stuck at below 300 while losing only 2 wickets. I do not know what was the thought of their batsman lol. Hope to see a good comeback by South Africa in next ODI.

It is a fact and dropping catches can cost you the match and that is what happened, Dhoni gave three chances, first dropped catch when he was on zero and then after crossing fifty it was a hard chance because it was a powerful shot and then a run out chance, it was the day for MSD to get India this historic win and he made it till the end.

Pakistan, with a very nice comeback after the Test series, won the first ODI match by 5 wickets. Interestingly, today's pitch looked like totally in batsmen favor, with almost no extra bounce. IMO, Hashim Amla's century really ruined the match for South Africa; at pitches like these, the strike rate of at least 100+ should be maintained. OTOH, Mohammad Hafeez's batting performance looked awesome as he maintained the strike rate of 110+.

Media criticizing Hashim Amla for this and they are right. in last 5 overs, they managed to make only 30-35 runs. its a crime in this era plus when you have wickets in hand.
At one stage Pakistani fan were nervous when wickets fell quickly I was like here you go another facepalm moment for Pakistani batting line up but Hafeez and Shadab did the job beautifully for Pak.

It will be interesting to see what happens once Warner is back, that's if he gets back into the Australian team.

Are you implying that finch will lose his place in ODI squad if Warner comes back? if yes then I don't think Finch place is in danger right now he's doing an okay- (not bad) job as a captain. batting is concern surely but still, he is a very valuable asset in top order. I am sure he will pass this bad phase soon.

IMO, Hashim Amla's century really ruined the match for South Africa; at pitches like these, the strike rate of at least 100+ should be maintained. OTOH, Mohammad Hafeez's batting performance looked awesome as he maintained the strike rate of 110+.

Yeah, he and the another batsman, made 93, both made a good partnership and they both played slow. Amla played the whole innings, so, he could play little aggressive and made some more run which will give them big score. Still, Pakistan made a great knock inded. Great come back after the test series.

They were too slow to did not complete the 300 run mark. Maybe after playing the test, there were not fully prepared for the one days and this approach went wrong for them.

This was the first match and I think they will learn a good lot from it and come back strongly in the next ODI. Even if they had bowl a little well, they would have grab the match as Pakistani batting line is never been strong through out the series.

I agree with you.
If you ask me , in one way , Warner not playing has affected finch . They both used to open and Warner used to take all the pressure off finch . Now finch will try unnecessary things if he eats up balls. If Warner comes back , it will be beneficial for Finch not a threat.

Sorry I mean for the test team, so if Warner is back and playing in the test team it will ease the pressure on Finch knowing that he most likely won't get called up to the test team and he can then concentrate on the shorter form of the game. I think that is a rumour my friend as I can't see Maxwell being the captain at the World Cup. We never know Smith could be captain as the ban would be over by this time.

On some other news, Australia has been dealt with a major blow with one of their strike bowlers Josh Hazlewood ruled out of the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka with a back injury. Jhye Richardson has been called up to take his place in the team.

Okay, in that case, he should be a drop from test squad or move down in middle order if necessary because I don't think he's equipped to face new ball in red cricket. that's what I thought when I saw him facing the first new ball. the second new ball is a different scenario due to pitch behavior or some runs on the board.

Shorter format is a different task. one good inning can do magic for him be it with David Warner, Alex Carey or Arcy short.

Proteas did well here and should be an easy win for them if no surprises play a part in this match but the pitch is very slow its flat but still very slow wicket.

Fakhar Zaman was playing well and was looking really good but... anyways Sohaib Malik still batting so they can fancy at least 150 runs from here if lower order can stay on the crease. We still have 20+ overs to go.

Well, the match was quite interesting, special thanks to Hassan Ali for that (though I think that all of the batting tired him up and resultantly, he looked bad in fast bowling). Andile Phehlukwayo had some extremely good luck with him today; even after playing for hours, it looked like he wasn't able to create any sort of good momentum in his batting style. Behind the wickets, regarding Andile's luck, Sarfaraz did comment in Urdu:

"Abey kaale, teri ammi aaj kahaan baitheen hain? Kya parwa ke aaye hai aaj?" which can be translated in English as: “Hey black guy, where's your mother sitting today? What have you asked her to pray for you?"

However, Rassie van der Dussen played an extremely stable batting inning and looked calm from the very start. IMO, he's going to be very big for South Africa in upcoming years. IMO, he can be the next Graeme Smith or AB de Villiers for South African team.

It's sae how NewZealand lost their 5 wickets within 50 run possibly. I had seen 128/5 wickets but now they are all out for 157. I didn't expect this kind match. It will be a easier win for India, I think. No pressure on batsman. It will be completed within 30 overs.

NZ really messed their inning and got all out at 157 in their home ground. Things does not really look good from NZ point of view as India are already 41/0 in 9 overs and now require 117 more runs to win the match. India will continue their good performance from OZ tour to this tour as well.

Indian spinners duo continue to restrict the opposition and taking wickets in the middle order just like they used to. bowlers did their job once again for Team India. The first player to bag all the awards and being selected as the captain in both formats, never heard anyone getting this much accolade in the history of ICC awards and he truly deserves as India is playing incredibly well under his captaincy.
An easy win for India in their first match. There was a time when India used to struggle in New Zealand and i clearly remember one series where the famed Indian batting line failed miserably and only Sehwag played some good innings in the entire series, that was the time when Bond was terrorizing every batsmen, but at present they look like world beaters and defeating every team in their own home ground which is truly incredible.
