Nope. I very doubt government will want to relinquish control... As a sub currency it could gain mainstream use but i think there will be much blood before BTC replace the Dollar.

I honestly don't think it'll happen, certainly not in 15 years... In 100 years maybe?

I don't think "soon" but I do think after 15 years or so it is a definite possibility. "soon" i guess is a relative term.

Claims like this are fun to talk about but little more than good marketing for Coinbase. (Don't get me wrong, I like Coinbase). But no one can say for sure whether bitcoin will have staying power and significance to be considered the world's reserve currency ever let alone 15 years.
What I think is a better discussion to have about this is why would we want Bitcoin to be the world's reserve currency. Existing fiat currencies are controlled and manipulated by Governments and Banks. Do you think these people are going to just let Bitcoin exist without their involvement or blessing? Do you think these people aren't going to want to have control and option to manipulate Bitcoin as they have fiat?
I think the answer is No!
If Bitcoin becomes the world's reserve currency, Bitcoin will be destroyed as we know it. I can't see a way that it wouldn't, but if you all think differently I'd love to hear it!

Impossible with this volatiliy.
I mean, alright dollar is volalite too i know but; everyone in the world measures everything's value in dollars. Not anything else, not in gold, not in Euro's, not in gas... Only U.S. Dollars. USA rules the world.
Am I clear?

It's not going to happen. More likely, the dollar will replace itself with 'Digital Dollar 2.0' that will somehow "solve" all the traditional dollars problems and make it more convenient for use (but still fiat.)
Coinbase really knows how to wave that banner though.

I don't think so. Us dollar is an international and very established money. To many countries (to not tell almost all) have their reserves in their Central Banks mostly in us dollar. Has almost the status of gold. Bitcoin has the qualities of being reserve money (is uninflationable) but I think that it is insufficient to fulfill the requests of all the countries.

It is an courageous prediction and maybe know what he tell. But I don't think so. A very long story of us dollar cannot end so easy. Bitcoin is an wonderful tool and has a very precious quality. It is not manipulable. As such it would be a very welcomed currency in replacing every kind of money. Maybe as a money of the money. This is the picture of bitcoin for me. The money which will measure the strength of every money. The change of every fiat money with bitcoin will show how strong is that fiat money.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend. We already see banks in the process of developing, what they call "Private Blockchains" These Private Blockchains is the experimental phase for the "private tokens" backed by the governments, behind those banks. We can say what we want... If these banks are successfull with their "Private Blockchains"... and it can be scaled to replace fiat, it will be enforced by the governments. We will see Fiat being replaced by it's digital twin version in the form of "Private Blockchains" How ironic is that... Bitcoin being disrupted by it's own technology.... The Blockchain.

absolutely not. there is no point in thinking it ever will replace any major fiat currency. just stop thinking/hoping that it will happen. it will not.

Do you think it will be true?
even I fully realize, that 15 years is a lot of time in this world, it sounds like bullish madness. We had working mail for 2 decades now and people still sending letters and postcards, even they can sent mails and whatsapp messages with own photos. I will consider, that bitcoin suceed, once we reach 2-3% of world population actively using it. no, is more or less completely unknown (and those, which knew anything only reminds silkroad and mt.gox, nothing else, at least here..)

Never going to happen. Governments are run by controlling things. If you want to replace dollar with bitcoin, you need to hand over the control of BTC to government. How a country's economy can be based be on such volatile thing.
If you see it from other angle, BTC can replace if every online business starts accepting BTC for transactions. They will still need to convert it to dollar.

I don't think Bitcoin will ever replace the dollar or euro. One of the facts is that it's price is very volatile. But I do think that it will become mainstream one day.

I don't think Bitcoin will ever replace the dollar or euro. One of the facts is that it's price is very volatile. But I do think that it will become mainstream one day. It has a user base of like 250k people.. It won't be volatile when it has several billion

It's not going to do it anytime soon or likely even within 15 years, but it could in our lifetime I reckon. I think more economic instability in certain countries and maybe another financial collapse/crisis will happen soon rather than later and that could bring in many new people to bitcoin which could have a snowball effect. absolutely not. there is no point in thinking it ever will replace any major fiat currency. just stop thinking/hoping that it will happen. it will not.
Why will it not? If in the future bitcoin keeps going up and fiat keeps going down which is what happens when they print more of it on a whim people might wise up. Money should grow over time not devalue and bitcoin could solve this and that's what's great about a deflationary currency.
