Take it as a learning experience and that there is a reason people like me become concerned when hashrates become centralized.

51% attacks are a real threat and this time Shift got lucky it wasn't someone who really wanted to cause harm.

They also become a threat anytime a single pool controls 51% of the hash if that pool were to become hacked.  I have expressed concerns in the past about the centralization of the hashrates in shift.

We'll walk away from this wiser, that's certain.

Sadly it's not up to us which pool people choose, we can only advertise solo mining as much as possible. But we'll keep an eye on it and try anything we can to inform people about a negative hash distribution so they can take the necessary measures.

Hi guys, I see that you have developed a difficult situation and decided to help you to distribute your 225 mh connected to allocate pools speed.

It's good to see you back in this thread Smiley I am glad everyone is coming together to strengthen the network when it needs some stabilizing. Hopefully after this debacle is settled we can back to focusing on the potential of phantom. In the most recent release being able to create a website and letting it propagate through the network allowing access to your website anywhere through phantom is quite powerful.

Haven't seen Richie online today yet but we're constantly keeping an eye on it.

Meanwhile we're using the downtime to go through possible solutions against the different attack vectors and we're incredibly thankful to everyone who is dedicating their rig(s) over the next days to help us take our mind off one of those vectors.

My node got "corrupted or incomplete meta file" notice when i run gshift. I saved my walletkey then deleted the whole gshift folder at appdata. I use windows 7 64bit by the way.

I ran 3.1.0 on --fast and took 26mins to completely resync. Previous chaindata was at 370MB but 297MB only with 3.1.0. Is this normal? I have mined several blocks already after synching.

Anyone wanting me to help them with attacks or any other shady activities , I am not interested so please stop sending me PM's.

Good luck with Shift and please be careful guys cause there seems to be a lot of shady people looking to screw over coins and it appears to me this team and coin have a lot going for it.

INTERIM UPDATE AUG 19 | BACK TO NORMAL

We are looking back at a few stressful, nerve-wracking and nonetheless very exciting days
with the recent incident and we are extremely glad to say everything is back to normal.
Pools are running on the correct chain, trading and wallets are back online on Bittrex.

What has been done?

We have been working tirelessly with users, pools, exchanges and the person responsible for
the trouble to bring everything back to normal, most importantly guaranteeing as much safety
as any way possible for users' funds. Pools and exchanges were quick to respond and updated
to the new release, users have been assisted in setting up their rigs for solo mining and we
are subsidizing the nethash until we can secure more hash from interested miners.

With great pleasure we can say that all funds obtained through the attack have been paid
back to Bittrex
, there are no missing balances.

We want to thank the person responsible for the immediate effort he took to inform everyone
about what had happened, expose the attack vector to us and go the extra mile to support us
with any knowledge he has on how to properly secure our network aside from attracting more
miners.

We also want to thank Bittrex's Richie for understanding our situation, taking as much time as
he did to solve the problems, the great communication and focus on security.

Most of all we want to say there are no words to express our gratitude to every person
from our community who has shown their support over the last days, either by declaring
their loyalty and keeping us motivated to move on or by donating hashpower. We feel
very blessed to have such an incredible community, keep it up!!

If you haven't yet updated, we urge you to do so, the new release of GShift for immediate
update is available
here.

I'm sure there are many questions left so don't hesitate to ask here or join us on Slack.

Hi,

download the latest gshift (3.1.0) from here https://github.com/shiftcurrency/shift/releases/tag/v3.1.0, then copy gshift.exe and replace the file in Phantom-bundle-windows\phantom folder.

We'll be updating the bundles soon.

I have a small problem with mining it started a few days ago and I can't start again mining.

I tried mining with ethmininer, claymores mining and none of them are working.Giving the same error: Authorization failed or even Jsonrpc can't connect...
Here is the screenshot:

ETH mines fine, but it fails mining SHIFT,but it worked before..

I think the blocktime should be lowered. It averages from 38-48 seconds.

New Shift Mining Pool:
shift.4miners.net

  • 0% fee until end of month

  • 1 Shift Minimum payout threshold. Payouts run every 4 hours.
  • Static difficulty for miners: 2,000 millions.
  • PROP system. When block is found, the reward is distributed among all workers proportionally to how much shares each of them has found.
