After my current game is over I will likely take a break before starting another
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1148538.0

I care a great deal about bitcoin (and have interest in CryptoNote and other privacy focused blockchain development) but my schedule will be busy for several months. I may occasionally come back to post a chess problem in my thread but don't have time for a greater commitment.

Please do start another chess game here. I will join the Monero team and will try to refer you more chess players once my current game has ended. Do not count on me to return and vote for every move. My presence will primarily serve to promote chess and to further my understanding of CryptoNote.

There are several very well known chess players who are interested in bitcoin. As development here continues I think it will become easier for me to interest them in CryptoNote. Please continue the technical discussions, particularly about new research papers and commits of importance.

Thank you very much for championing bitcoin to the chess community and for your interest in CryptoNote.

I titled the thread Monero vs Boolberry Chess Challenge and CryptoNote technical discussion because Monero was white in the first game.

Should I change the title to Boolberry vs Monero Chess Challenge and CryptoNote technical discussion now that colors are reversed or leave it alone?

I want to avoid confusion about who is what color but am not sure if changing the title would help or hinder that goal.

Yes, changing the order makes sense to me now that Boolberry is white and Monero is black.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Updated. If this thread becomes more popular and we play a third game I will put it back. So far I am happy with the thread but would like to see more CryptoNote technical discussion. Since it interests letsplayagame it may also interest some of the chess players from outside of our community who follow him here.

That would be great Smiley

What exactly is CryptoNote?
It's a technology to provide full anonymity isn't it?

Is there smth like a whitepaper for it?

This is the main CN whitepaper https://cryptonote.org/whitepaper.pdf

GM letsplayagame tweets refer to the whitepapers published by Monero academics/researchers here https://lab.getmonero.org/

I previously thought letsplayagme could be GM Aronian, but I cannot find any ties to his interests in CryptoGraphy/Math.

I have been following this thread from the beginning but have not contributed to the game as I am not at that level.

The following is part of what was just posted in the main Monero thread and I am posting it here as there has been requests for more info.

Shen's comment regarding ring multi-signature:

Quote
Yes - there are a couple of ways to go with the multisig - once the MG sigs are there, the method detailed in section 4.4 here https://www.overleaf.com/read/qzgytbyyxvyf is available (probably even without the CT part of, but then you have to be more careful with amounts).

All updates, whitepapers etc. regarding Ring Confidential Transactions (CT) can be found here ->  https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3pw30d/ringct_for_monero_updated_versions/

Only two votes this move. For those that are new here, I have yet to moderate any votes. The winning vote before the tying vote was made wins by tiebreaker (rule suggestion from a community member that was adopted without objection). The only reason I made the thread moderated was to save the game from a troll attract where newcomers appear and purposely vote for a losing move in attempt to sabotage the game. This has not happened.

I also have not moderated any negative comments about CryptoNote. If you have objections or questions about the technology we are discussing please share them here. You have no reason to fear censorship. In fact we welcome constructive criticism.  Reading the Monero Research Lab papers proves that the CryptoNote community prefers to address weaknesses and limitations head on rather than hide them.

We need a tie breaking mechanism. For example one can look at the result before the vote that led to the tie and use that instead.

Thank you for posting this here. Combining multisig with CryptoNote (particularly with CT) opens up a lot of possibilities for much better security when doing business with unknown parties without the need for 3rd party escrow.  In fact it is hard to imagine how bitcoin could compete in that context for transactions where privacy is important. Multisig will help tremendously.

Right now bitcoin still has the advantage in liquidity, network hash rate, adoption, acceptance (xmr.to neutralizes the adoption advantage for small transaction sizes. Hopefully xmr.to will allow larger transactions as liquidity improves) and multisig.

9 hours? Well done! I am looking forward to tracking the milestone progress for this!

If you are looking for a community that is at the cutting edge of innovation in a proof of work crypto currency, Then I would suggest Monero. For example: We just funded a project towards the implementation of confidential transactions and multi signature transactions with Cryptonote ring signature anonymity. Not only is this extremely cutting edge but the project was funded by the community in approximately 9 hours indicating the strength and dedication of the community. https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/2450/ring-ct-c-crypto. The paper on which this work is based is available here https://www.overleaf.com/read/qzgytbyyxvyf. This is a community focused on building a cutting edge fungible and private crypto currency that also addresses the blocksize scaling issues in Bitcoin. The emphasis is on doing things right where mathematical rigor and peer review, take precedence over marketing.

Whichever coin and community you chose I do urge you to spend some time beforehand by doing you own research. This is what I chose to do before becoming a part of the Monero community.
