...
Can we talk about what type of smart contracts Ring CT and multi sig will help facilitate for CryptoNote users?
...

Sure it is worth a try, but I doubt we will explore a minuscule fraction of the possibilities. It could be like trying to figure out what the possible applications of the Internet would be when the first contracts for ARPANET were awarded over half a century ago.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Smart contracts have endless applications. Annuities, escrow arrangements, settlement agreements and much more. CryptoNote and CT can both make the resulting payments untraceable and keep the amounts hidden.

I think e5 loses a pawn. White would be attacking it twice and we are only defending it once. Am I wrong?

7.dxe5 dxe5 8.Qxd8 Rxd8 9.Nxe5 does not win a pawn because of Nxe4 attacking the knight on e5 with the bishop on g7.

If we are going to play d5 I would rather wait until after black has played Nc6. We should not be worried about exd4.

Teamwork and plenty of time to think about each move really helps. Obviously black has a large advantage in this game if letsplayagame keeps participating but we still have a chance. After a poor performance in game 1 the bitcointalk team appears to be reasonably close to holding a draw vs letsplayagame in game 2! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1148538.0

There are a lot of things I like about CryptoNote and not all of them are related to cryptography.  Unlike other projects that keep many things closed source, everything here is out in the open.  Difficult questions are not immediately labeled as FUD and instead are addressed. Monero Research Lab raised some important concerns that were addressed well by the 0.9 release. The recent attack on Monero proved the competence of the development team in the professional manner they addressed it while quickly rolling out the fix in 0.9.1

I also like the way that most of the active CryptoNote communities (XMR, BBR and AEON) seem to get along and learn from each others development ideas instead of focusing on attacking each other. In contrast to bitcoin right now we are a shining example of how open source development should work! Lets hope we still get along as we scale our community closer to the size of bitcoins.

Looks like we have different styles of play for this next move. With white I typically like control of the center with pawns and do not bring in majors too soon. The castle is an option that can wait for a defensive black move.

Not chess related but besides anonymity I think it is worth reminding people of another technical reason that makes CryptoNote coins much different than bitcoin.

CryptoNote uses the Schnorr signatures algorithm instead of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm used by bitcoin

https://twitter.com/aeoncurrency/status/688726908188643328

It is open for debate which one is better than the other but hedging your bets may make sense to some.

I think an elliptic curve discussion would be on topic if we have enough volunteers both willing and competent enough to discuss it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliptic_curve_cryptography
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliptic_Curve_Digital_Signature_Algorithm
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Secp256k1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnorr_signature
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curve25519

This site offers some interesting comparisons although some of the conclusions (such as those on Secp256k1) may be controversial:
http://safecurves.cr.yp.to/

This should make bitcoin users feel better:

I believe that the ECC/NSA thread you referenced did eventually nail down every parameter used to create secp256k1 and answers most if not all concerns.
Yes, There is a python script that produces every parameter for secp256k1 from first principles, except the generator— and both myself and D. J. Bernstein have given the proof that in-advance choice of the generator is harmless outside of restricted conditions that aren't relevant to normal Bitcoin usage.

Here is a reminder of the tiebreaker rule, which of course would be avoided if a 5th person comes along to vote in the next few hours.

Ties will be decided based on the recommendation from ArticMine:
We need a tie breaking mechanism. For example one can look at the result before the vote that led to the tie and use that instead.
