Looks like Nole is taking over the match, I just glanced on the live score, so he already took the first 2 sets against Nadal. As I have said, I will go for Nole, but I didn't expect him to be up 2-0. Anyways, Nadal still had a lot of chance in the 3rd set, but he seems to be getting tired or started to tire out. Let's go for a 5 set classic thriller.
It's over Nadal could not make it. Djokovic won the third set and own the match. Nadal lost because Djokovic was too cleaver and fast for him. I was looking forward to a marathon match though.

Congrats Djokovic for the title.

Right, I was expecting Nadal to at least make a comeback run and force a 4th or even a 5th and deciding game but it looks like Nole is really unstoppable at this point. He seems to be very nervous as well, I don't know maybe he is really tired and didn't offer more resistance to Nole.

Congrats to both Osaka and Djokovic for winning the 2019 trophy both of them deserves to win and a good start for them as well.
I was certain Djokovic was going to win but in straight sets the odds werent that great either. Think they were just over 3.5x and to risk any amount on a finals would of been careless to do since their opponent would be putting up a fight to even win one of the sets. But Nadal didnt have any solution in doing this for some reason.
As the announcer said "There are no excuses!" for Nadal this time.
He was simply out matched and out played. Well done Nole! Wink
Now Djokovic is 2 championships away from Nadals all time of 17 major final wins and 20 for Federer.

Well after Federer and Nadal currently if there is anyone who deserves to win over 20 major titles then it's Djokovic. He is the quickest and smartest player around.

What a game. I mean it was not very exciting to watch, but nole just showed everyone how it's done. Let's see if he can match Nadal's 17 GC this year!

What a game. I mean it was not very exciting to watch, but nole just showed everyone how it's done. Let's see if he can match Nadal's 17 GC this year!

I first mentioned this last year that Djokovic could be the player to surpass Nadal and Federer in Grand Slam titles won and right now my prediction is looking very good. If Nadal doesn't win the French Open this year then yes I believe Djokovic can match Nadal's 17 GS titles this year as if Djokovic can stay fit and healthy then he will be hard to beat at Wimbledon and the US Open. He may even win the French Open with the form he is in right now.

@Kemarit and I have been saying this for a while now about Djokovic as his form in the back end of last season looked like the Djokovic of old. He now becomes the outright Australia Open winner on 7 titles and also surpasses Pete Sampras on the all time GS winners. We are all very lucky to see the top 3 players all of time play at the same time and I'm not sure if we'll see this again.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Nole has all the tools and it seems he is peaking even at age 31. Nadal is just one year older but it looks like Nadal body doesn't seems to hold for a long time and could caught at him anytime.

There is no doubt that Nole will overtake Nadal and even Federer's record if he keeps with this high level of tennis for the next 2 years and can retire with the records under his belt.

Age isn't everything. The time spent on the course is also very important. Nole had a late start compared to Nadal. No wonder he has more stamina left Smiley

Age isn't everything.

It is very important for games that last so many hours. Hopefully, Tennis is a sport that can be played by people of all ages. Djokovic didn't disappoint us. He played at his best and he deserved the title. Nadal could play much better (he played better in the previous rounds) but his injury shows that he can't endure a whole tournament at his max performance.

In sports age is every important with combination of body stamina and yes any age capable to play tennis but the younger age is advantage because their movements is faster than to older.

Specially in Tennis because it's a one man show. Fitness is the key. Nadal is 32 and Djokovic is 31. Comparing with Federer who is 37 currently, they can easily play the next five years if there are no major injury.

Federer had already enough in tennis for me I guess this is good reason to retire while he is in good rank, and don’t let the age bring him down before retirement .

I’ll put my bet still on Nadal with a little prayer of luck with skills and abilities

I always found it difficult to pick one in between Nadal, Federer, Djokovic. All three have the highest quality in their game. Yes, soon we may see to say goodbye to Federer but I hope Nadal and Djokovic should continues for more few years.

By the way Federer the most aged No one player in Tennis history.

You are welcome. My opinion is if he feels fit then there are no harm to keep going. He is a legend and he knows well when to tap things. I am also a big fan of Federer.

The tennis world owes him a lot.

Djokovic is feeling very confident after his GS win over Nadal. He said he feels very good and that he feels he can win the other three GS tournaments this year. He has held all 4 GS titles in a year before and he said well why not again, if Djokovic can achieve this then he will surpass Nadal with GS title wins and be only two behind Federer. Time will tell if this becomes a reality but right now I can't see anyone stopping him unless he gets an injury of some sorts during the year.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Exactly, some players age overnight as well. Kudos to Nadal as well, he has a lot of tennis in him, but as I have said, it might be a case of players getting old overnight. His injury is another thing as well, he needs to get a rest and heal that's body who has a lot of wear and tear and just comeback when he feels great again.

The guy is a beast , damn I wasn't expecting that . The backhand of Djoker on that night is the best I have ever seen , his defense was amazing .
Kudos to Nadal for holding his head up , he reached the finals which is good for him and I am sure he will be back .

Exactly, we have been agreeing that Djokovic is that man that can match or even surpassed Federer in Grand Slam titles, and him winning the Australian Open is a step closer. Maybe this year he can tie Rafa's titles and then chase after Roger's in the next couple of years.

We should not forget what happened to him last year. It was tough for him, physically and mentality. However, Djokovic overcame everything and we have may witnessed out of the greatest comeback in Tennis as well. We wouldn't have thought that we can overcome everything and win titles at the end of 2018 and continue to be dominant? A lot has been discounting him already, but he rise to the occasion  and even surpasses everyone's expectation.

Keep it coming guys, it looks like this thread really did come alive as of late, and lot of tennis fans who are really knowledgeable and very well-informed.

If Djokovic continues this pace and play the next 5 years then he will be the highest grand slam winner without any doubt. Right now he is only 5 behind Federer.

I hope he continue and always stay safe from any injury or sort of things.

I agree, but he needs to get past Nadal first and maybe when he is about the age of Federer in the coming years, then its possible that he will surpass or even bested the records of Roger.

That is if he continue to play elite tennis and be lucky that there will be no injuries on his part or at least learn to pick what tournaments to join then I won't be surprised if he retires at the top of tennis and be better than Roger Federer.

If I am not wrong then out of 53 head to head occurrence Nadal won 25 matches and Djokovic won 28 which shows both payer is capable to outcome Federe in having the highest number of GS.

If both players can keep their fitness and can continue the next 5 years then we are going to see a good competition in between these two.

I wish them good health.
