Its not good news for Federer as he had to pull out of his match with Stefanos Tsitsipas as he has sustained a right leg injury in Thursday's match. We were so close to maybe seeing Federer v Nadal but it wasn't to be, now Tsitsipas will have to face a red hot Nadal however as we know Tsitsipas beat Nadal last week in Madrid so can he do it again?

I am thinking Nadal will have a much easier job of winning here than in Madrid. Madrid is on higher altitude and much faster surface which suited Tsitipas better. Furthermore, Nadal now knows what to expect and I am sure he prepared some tricks to break the game of his opponent. I am a bit afraid that this one will be very one sided but we shall see.

I am expecting a final between Djokovic  vs Nadal.

Other day I saw my man Theim D to lost :-( Felt bad for him.

Should be an easy match for djokovic with him beating theim in spain last weekend. If tsitsipas manages to beat nadal then we will have another rematch of the final in madrid.
Djokovic is looking to be coming back and playing like he used to and is looking comfortable as worlds number one again.

Nadal won his match now it's time for Djokovic. I hope he wins it too. A final between Nadal vs Djokovic will be exciting. If it goes Nadal vs Djokovic then my pick will be Djokovic in the final.

what happened with Nadal? he easily wins in matches with weak players but can't win in match with Tsitsipas or Thiem? is this the beginning of the end of Nadal's era?

Thiem and Tsitipas are great players and can beat anybody on their good day. Furthermore, they are young and have no respect for the big four three (I mean this in best possible way) and try to prove they are as good as them in every match. Lots of "older" players on tour have mental blockade when playing against Nadal or Djoko and loose their matches even when those two doesn't play their best tennis. Nadal is still the best clay player and I believe he will confirm it again this year by winning in Roland Garros. Best of 3 sets will go nicely with his consistent style of tennis. It gives him much more time to get into opponents head and force them to trying impossible shots and make errors.

You can not blame these players for not winning in straight sets and easily against lower ranked players. So many factors can be into play. Such as injury or even fatigue. But yes they should win when it comes looking it at paper but it is sports after all and anything can happen. Just look at djokovic.
He should of had an easy match today against diego schwartzman but he had difficulty in the second set and was behind 2 to 5 but in novak fashion came back to force a tiebreaker but lost. He didnt have one ace until the final frame and all his drop shots were not falling. He played a tough and long match against del porto just the night before so he must of been quite tired because it ended early into the morning.
But he came to prevail winning 6 - 3 just as the first set ended.
It will be hard to see who will win the match tomorrow since nadal has been resting while djokovic had another long match including a tiebreaker to drag it out.

Ok, so we are looking for a dream match for the Italian Open. Djovokic lately has been hot and on a winning streak, but this is Nadal's specialty so it's hard to predict who is going to win the tournament. Nadal has an easy route though and I'm sure he has enough gas on his tank, while Djokovic has been extended in his last 2 matches to three sets. But I will go with Djovokic here, he has all the momentum and those 3 setter match is good for him in end. I'm expecting a back and forth high level of tennis but I'm leaning towards Djokovic to prevail.

I lost some money in the Djovokic match lol. It was Djovokic to win the 2nd set but unfortunately he lost it. It was a tight set.

Anyway, as I expected it's Djovokic vs Nadal now. One of the best server against the most cleaver tennis player. I will take Djovokic's side but Nadal is not a man who will give up.

Who do you consider as the best server and who as the most clever tennis player? Neither Djoko or Nadal fit either category for me, especially as the best server. They are nowhere near best servers like Karlovic, Isner, Kyrgios.... And for most clever tennis player for me will always be Andy Murray. For me they are the most complete tennis players today. They have all the shots at extremely high level (including serve) but nowhere near the "best in game level". Their consistency and all around play is what makes them best in the world.

Anyway this performance from Nadal in 1st and 3rd set today was on level of his best performances ever. Djokovic played some really good tennis in those sets and lost them easily. We saw some great tennis and Nadal sure sent a message to show who is number one favorite in Roland Garros.

Djokovic must of been too tired to meet an already rested nadal because as mentioned before he played a grueling three set match with del porto into the early morning hours then about 16 hours later faced schwartzman which should of been easy for him. But he struggled and it showed in the second set with it going into a tiebreaker. But he managed to close out the match with a win. But it took a toll on him and you can see it after the match.
Good for nadal on winning a finals in italy because he deserves it after losing in spain for both the barcelona and madrid open. On his home court and in a stadium named after him.

At this point, I don't know who can stop Nadal at clay, he looks very healthy and for sure he will be the favorites to win another French Open. The question is, who will be the runner up?

Yes I agree that Djokovic looked tired and wasn't at his best when facing Nadal, rain delays in tournaments can take their toll on players who unfortunately need to play matches in a row to make up for the time lost from the rain delays. Well at least all the players now have a few days to rest up ready for the French Open, my money is already on Thiem as an outsider however I do think it will be out of Nadal and Djokovic.

@vella85  - based on the performance of Thiem on Italian open, what do you think of his chances here? You got me thinking here, perhaps Thiem could be a live underdog here. Although Nadal really looks dominant against Djokovic. I'm seeing that Thiem, might pull some upsets. Haven't check the odds though, but if it looks enticing then I might throw some money on him.

Anybody think Andy murray will get anywhere in his last appearance at Roland garros? He announced his retirement last year and he wanted to end his career at one of these big tournaments. I think he wanted to end at wimbeldon but from the news this morning he is looking to play doubles so this one could be his last singles match.

@vella85  - based on the performance of Thiem on Italian open, what do you think of his chances here? You got me thinking here, perhaps Thiem could be a live underdog here. Although Nadal really looks dominant against Djokovic. I'm seeing that Thiem, might pull some upsets. Haven't check the odds though, but if it looks enticing then I might throw some money on him. 

I already put a bet on Thiem a few weeks ago when he was paying $11 to win the French Open, he then shorted into $6 after winning the Barcelona Open and that's where the current odds have stayed. What do you think about Tsitsipas of winning as he is at $19 to win which is very good odds for a player that has shown that he can match it with the top players. The only thing that worries me with him is that when he gets to the finals, he doesn't have the mentality to win but maybe that will change in the French Open. I'm actually thinking of having $20 on him at these odds.

Oh that's my boy, Tsitsipas  , I will definitely put some money on that kid. He needed a break out tournament and this could be it. (I'm a little bias obviously).

I will definitely look at Thiem, yes, $20 is not that bad assuming that the odds are that good as well. Hope though that this young prospect would wilted out of the pressure of big events such as French Open and show that they can handle it like a veteran.
