Have the people who were scammed by this guy formed a group yet? I'm not an expert in law, but would they be able to form a group and then have one case instead of several different ones? Nobody has sued probably because it's just low amounts from a lot of people and they don't feel like going through the hassle to get their money back.

Perhaps he had money in Bitcoin Savings and Trust and he thought he might be able to get some of it back if he gets Trendon off the hook? Tongue   haha

I didn't follow up too closely, but I believe the SEC is the only one who really works on getting Trendon's butt to jail. No lawyers or groups of victims are working against him. At least not in the open.

Does he have to return the BTC or cash to the people he scammed? If he has to return cash he's just a greedy bastard because BTC's risen so much since he scammed everyone out of their coins. Either way he should pay the full amount back. The worst punishment is living with this the rest of your life, someone should submit a story to the news so it goes viral so everyone knows who he is.

From at least September 2011 to September 2012 (“relevant period”), Shavers,
operating under the Internet name “pirateat40,” offered and sold BTCST investments over the
Internet, raising more than 700,000 BTC in principal investments from BTCST investors, or
more than $4.5 million based on the daily average price of BTC when the BTCST investors
purchased their BTCST investments.

http://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/2013/comp-pr2013-132.pdf

During the relevant period, Shavers obtained at least 700,467 BTC in principal
investments from BTCST investors, or $4,592,806 when converted to U.S. dollars based on the
daily average price of BTC when the BTCST investors purchased their BTCST investments.

During the relevant period, Shavers returned at least 507,148 BTC to BTCST
investors as withdrawals or purported interest payments.

During the relevant period, Shavers transferred at least 150,649 BTC to his
personal account at an online BTC currency exchange which, among other things, he then sold or
used to day-trade (converting BTC to U.S. dollars and vice versa). As a result of this activity,
Shavers suffered a net loss from his day-trading, but realized net proceeds of $164,758 from his
net sales of 86,202 BTC.

During the relevant period, Shavers transferred $147,102 from his personal
account at the online BTC currency exchange to accounts he controlled at an online payment
processor and his personal checking account, which he then used for, among other things, his
personal expenses, including rent, car-related expenses, utilities, retail purchases, casinos, and
meals.

If this is true, there's nothing left to take. Well, except the pleasure of seeing him in jail, of course.

Doesn't it hurt to see 200k BTC wasted? I wonder what Trendon mumbles in his sleep: "I'm the greatest", "I fucked up", "I wasted 0.6 billion USD wort of BTC"? :-)

My god. He only got 150k out that whole mess? Even as a scammer he's a massive failure.

We were all thinking he walked away with millions. I don't understand how he only cashed out so little. 86,202 btc is much more than 150k. How much did the lose day trading? He used to brag on IRC all the time about moving the market and controlling bitcoin. He constantly implied that he was making all these returns to trading and selling big amount of btc to the secret customers.

Ponzis have far less reserves than outstanding balances Wink

Or he managed to hide the rest from the authorities and is very very rich now.

They seem to have some pretty exact numbers going for them there. And they all line up with the amounts we knew about before the SEC was involved.

But for him to have paid back 500k out of 700k and only end up with 150k usd is pretty bad. That's $0.75 per btc.

I can't get my head around someone just taking property or currency from other people. What has to be broken in your head to do this sort of thing?

I am not sure if you all understand this but the S.E.C does not have the power to jail someone. So even if the S.E.C finds him guilty all the can do is fine him.

Madoff was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on December 11, 2008, on a criminal charge of securities fraud.[152] According to the criminal complaint, the previous day[156] he had told his sons that his business was "a giant Ponzi scheme".[157][158] They called a friend for advice, Martin Flumenbaum, a lawyer, who called federal prosecutors and the SEC on their behalf. FBI Agent Theodore Cacioppi made a house call. "We are here to find out if there is an innocent explanation," Cacioppi said quietly. The 70-year-old financier paused, then said: "There is no innocent explanation."[17][153] He had "paid investors with money that was not there".[159] Madoff was released on the same day of his arrest after posting $10 million bail.[157] Madoff and his wife surrendered their passports, and he was subject to travel restrictions, a 7 p.m. curfew at his co-op, and electronic monitoring as a condition of bail. Although Madoff only had two co-signers for his $10 million bail, his wife and his brother Peter, rather than the four required, a judge allowed him free on bail but ordered him confined to his apartment.[160] Madoff has reportedly received death threats that have been referred to the FBI, and the SEC referred to fears of "harm or flight" in its request for Madoff to be confined to his Upper East Side apartment.[160][161] Cameras monitored his apartment's doors, its communication devices sent signals to the FBI, and his wife was required to pay for additional security.[161]

Doubtful... want to know why?
I tried to put action groups in place to get back property or prosecute people that scammed people and live in the USA.
The majority of bitcoiners say "Its not worth the time or effort" WE THE Bitcoin population allow this shit to continue due to the lack of action by the community.

Unfortunately many have this mindset. But i believe its changing. People start to call lawyers pretty fast now. The Labcoin Scammer gets investigated by italian police and so on. But with trendon youre right. The losers that lost their coins dont have an interest in "throwing good coins after bad coins". I didnt lose there so i wont take part but i would if i was a victim.

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.
