34-year-old Gordon Hayward announced his retirement.
Gordon Hayward played for the Jazz, Celtics, Hornets and OKC teams in his 14-year career in the NBA.
I remember he had his best seasons with the Utah Jazz. After the Utah Jazz, his career started to decline.
Just when his career was on a good run and about to ascend to its peak, that injury in Boston changed his career completely, and he never came back. I remember Boston was a favorite ring contender with Irving during that time. Another 'what if' player whose career was ruined by injury. His career became quiet after that; it seems like he hadn't overcome what happened mentally.

I remember he had his best seasons with the Utah Jazz. After the Utah Jazz, his career started to decline.

He felt he wasn't valued anymore. He played with the OKC but was not used. Things really changed after the injury for him; it was huge and affected his role. I see him in a similar situation with Deron Williams, who was also one of the best players for the Jazz before he got injured and traded, and after that, his career started to decline. So those players who have the skills have to be careful, as injury is a hard battle to win. Only a few win against it; to name one, it's PG, who recently secured a huge contract with the 76ers.
He was benched by OKC during his stint last season. But we can't blame the coach, they have a lot of young and athletic players and the only thing that Gordon can offer in his experience although as you can see, he become gun shy as well. Not sure if this is due to his body declining through the years of injury or he doesn't have it anymore in him. Sometimes we see players who have been mentally affected by injuries that he had. But as you have said, PG or Klay Thompson or even KD had injuries that take seasons to recover. And they are still playing, so it's more of the psychology of not playing or contributing in a team that could have hurried Gordon's decision to retire after 14 years in NBA.

Indeed, more on how the player's determination to work on his injury with the technology nowadays it's possible to still be competitive same deal with how PG and Klay did, they rest and use that time to recover same deal with how KD works on his own injury when they comeback to the league they still show how good they are.

The value still good unlike with how Hayward, after his injury he didn't push his way just contented with a supporting role and just like what happened to his career last season where he mostly sit and being bench by OKC because of so many young talents.

I was quiet surprised to see Julius Randle's name in my feed, I thought he was traded or something. Then there was his image of him fully jack after not playing for the past 6 months. And then this tweet,

https://x.com/TheDunkCentral/status/1819000212523810952

So for the Knicks fans, do you think that Randle deserves this huge contract? And isn't it the Knicks could be over the salary cap in the next coming years as they have Brunson as well being paid handsomely and I think he is now the new leader of the Knicks?

They played so great in the playoffs without Randle, of course it will be good if he was there, but not sure what will be the outcome of that series.

IMO, they could've played even greater with Randle on the floor. The Knicks were on a 6 game winning streak and was 12-2 the month before Randle got injured. But even before the arrival of Jalen, the team were starting to flourish under Randle and they became better with the much needed addition. So I guess the Knicks' management will give him that contract. Maybe there will be some movements or trades or they'll just pay the luxury tax in order to keep Randle. But we'll see, maybe Randle is willing to receive less in order to avoid higher luxury taxes.

I want to say that Hayward is the 2nd version of Brandon Roy, but Roy was way better on his career before he got injured.
Still, that very first game was the career changer and it went the other way which is a bit unfortunate. After that injury, he tried to come back, but he wasn't the same anymore. Anyway, best wishes with him, but who knows. He might still play overseas and play with other teams there. I mean if he still feels that he can still play professional basketball then going overseas might be his best option.

HELL NO!!!

I'm not a hater of the Knicks nor Randle, but he isn't worth of giving a max contract. He's a high-volume shooter which is either a bad or good for them depending on his performance, but I see it as a bad thing. Also, when times that they need him, he fumbles and he can't step up in the crucial minutes and at times when they needed him. Like you said, the Knicks will be over the salary cap if they will do this so if Randle wants to stay with the Knicks, he has no choice but to take a paycut like what Brunson did for the sake of the team. Randle has 2 options. It's either take a paycut or request a trade.

The Knicks played better in the playoffs even without Randle because of Brunson, and now, he's the main guy on the team and not Randle anymore.

Sadly that’s the risk of being an Athlete that’s why they need to protect their body at all cost so that they can play long term like what Lebron keep doing using his flops trick on his defense to avoid physical contact.

It’s very hard to recover on Hayward fractured since it can be felt even it’s healed due to the impact when he is playing. I remember his very promising game when he is on Jazz with Gobert. He should just stick to Jazz in able to capitalize being the main man instead of being trade on Celtics for contending the ring.

I guess they really value him after all. It's such a huge contract, but if he hadn't been injured, maybe he would've received a bigger offer. However, Julius should accept that as the Knicks have now become a championship team. Just imagine if he'll play, and next season he will be more motivated and the team wins the championship. Now the speculation is over because we have been discussing his future contract, which might be affected by his injury. It turned out it's nothing for the management.

LeBron will be remembered for many things, holding the record for most points scored, playing the most games, being a dominant force in the league, and the flop. There won't be many players that will play the game as long as he has. Likely he has 1 more season in him and will give it up, just wants to be remembered for playing with his son.

These players get paid obscene amounts of money and can afford the doctors, so if they choose to play a long period of time they should probably take care of their bodies while playing. Lots of exercise, eating healthy, and staying away from all the bad that society offers.

Jarrett Allen signed a 3-year, $91 million maximum contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

There is talk that Jerami Grant will go to the Los Angeles Lakers. It could be a good transfer for the Lakers, but I am not sure.
Lakers have been very quiet in the transfer window this year.
Jarrett Allen getting 30 million dollars per year seems a bit crazy to me, but I guess that's a sign of the times.  Still, a below average center that is just there to block shots getting almost 100 million in three years is hard to digest.  Salaries in the NBA are about to get absolutely nuts once they sign their new TV deals and the money flows to the players.  It won't be too much longer before someone is getting a million dollars per game to play in the NBA.
It is definitely about the times we are in, MJ made 25 million a year while Pippen was making like 3 million a year, so in theory Jarret Allen is making more than MJ per year, and ten times more than Pippen as well, obviously times have changed and inflation is showing itself in NBA as well. However, this isn't really a terrible contract neither, it's just for 3 seasons, so not a way too long contract, I have seen worse, and they are happy with him too, he isn't a star but he is good enough to keep him in the team.

You are not going to give him the max, he will not be making 50+ million, but if you offer 10 million or something then he will reject too. He may look like he is not great, but there aren't 30+ better centres in the league than him, meaning that he will be starter for one team at least, and Cleveland decided that they want to keep him as theirs, and a starter level centre should be getting 30 million this age.

I was quiet surprised to see Julius Randle's name in my feed, I thought he was traded or something. Then there was his image of him fully jack after not playing for the past 6 months. And then this tweet,

~

https://x.com/TheDunkCentral/status/1819000212523810952

So for the Knicks fans, do you think that Randle deserves this huge contract? And isn't it the Knicks could be over the salary cap in the next coming years as they have Brunson as well being paid handsomely and I think he is now the new leader of the Knicks?

They played so great in the playoffs without Randle, of course it will be good if he was there, but not sure what will be the outcome of that series.

Randle performs well when healthy and can be very useful to the team, considering he averages 24 points. However, that doesn't change the fact that he's injured, and I'm also surprised that news of his contract extension is coming out now. At least it's a risky move for the Knicks' management, as it isn't clear at this point if Randle can perform as well as he did before his injury.

He was injured, but he probably isn't injured now. The fact that he is getting a huge contract means the organization has a lot of confidence in him. Remember Kevin Durant's contract with the Nets? He was injured when he was with the Warriors, but the Nets still signed him with a good contract, even if he wouldn't play for one season just to recover. That's how they gamble on a player they believe would help them get a championship.

Imagine being screened by this guy.
https://www.talkimg.com/images/2024/07/31/5AbgW.png https://www.talkimg.com/images/2024/07/31/5ADuJ.png
What will you feel? Cheesy It's hilarious and amazing whoever took that photo.
A real-life David vs Goliath! 7ft 3in NBA star Victor Wembanyama goes viral as France center towers over his 5ft 6in Japanese opponent during Paris Olympics match
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/olympics/article-13691591/wembanyama-victor-japan-france-olympics-tower.html

All Wemby needs to do is put the ball as high as he can and I doubt someone could reach it. But still, I am amazed at how Japan handled France by taking the game to overtime although they are a super underdog in that match. They fought well but fell short and France won the game by 4 points only.

If you ask me, if I were in that situation where I'm only 5'7" and I have to guard players who are 7 feet tall, of course, I would be nervous. You'd think that if they set a screen on you like that, you'd immediately worry about getting injured. What Japan's Basketball team is doing here is all about heart. It's just unfortunate that it looks like they were cheated by France's home court. Japan Team could have won if the last shot by the French player wasn't counted as a foul. Hopefully, Japan Basketball can at least get one win in their group so that they still have a chance to make it to the quarterfinals.
What about me? I am just 5'4. Cheesy It will be like a wall hit me and I cannot even budge it.
Truly, Wemby is a force that will be hard to surpass especially in this screen and pop plays and I think Coach Pops will have the same strategy when he is using him. He is too tall and can even dunk the ball without even jumping but I guess it's the speed that will have the problem in the future.
He cannot be like Bradley or Yao. He needs more speed although he is also a threat in outside shots.

I didn't expect Greece to win against Australia. But I did expect Canada to win against Spain although not that close. Paris Olympics is getting more fun in the men's basketball section. USA will be a tough opponent but I can see some teams getting better as they play.

Honestly, with the amount of injuries that he has, and the fact that they are doing fine without him, I do not think that Randle should be signed that much. He can be offered a one year deal, just one year, and show that he can stay healthy and help this team, if he does that and he can play that one year and do fine, then he can be offered a new contract, but that one year must be done. If he helps the team this year and not get injured then he is going to be fine and could get contract either here or anywhere else he wants.

But if he ends up with injury yet again, then it is not going to be good for Knicks to sign him, nor would it make sense for any other team. Some players are just too injury prone and just like how Hayward retired early, some others are forced to do that too.

What do you mean?  Last year yes that was a freak accident not a knee or anything.  The other years he played 70+ games for them?  Everyone seems to forget in the last 4 years the dude has made 3 all star teams and 2 all nba teams.  Before his injury he was posting 25pt/10rb/5asst averages and is a matchup nightmare.  These guys that post that aremt cheap, randle isn't playing on a 1 year deal for anyone.  Dude is only 29.  Paul george on a bum knee at 34 got 4 years and 200+mil.  Why would randle get less than that??

So for the Knicks fans, do you think that Randle deserves this huge contract? And isn't it the Knicks could be over the salary cap in the next coming years as they have Brunson as well being paid handsomely and I think he is now the new leader of the Knicks?

They played so great in the playoffs without Randle, of course it will be good if he was there, but not sure what will be the outcome of that series.
It's up for the Knicks to answer that and evaluate him if ever he's going to be worth with the team. And what if he's there during the playoffs, maybe they'll be able to reach farther than what they've made.

A huge contract with a four years tied on him is going to be securing for Randle but that's the question that only Knicks will answer.

Let's see what happens this Saturday if there will be another contract or offer for him or they'd stick to that amount.

Yeah, but based on numbers, he is putting solid since he become a Knicks and so that could be the management is looking, on how they think Randle will play after his injuries. Still solid NYK team if he is back, we have Jalen Brunson and the rest knows how to contributed although they have lost Isaiah Hartenstein. But I still see the when Randle is healthy, he is going to lead the team in the playoffs again. He is a All star if I'm not mistaken, but we all know that if a players is injured and nursing some injuries, their performance are going to be affected. So let's give Randle another run in the Knicks uniform and take back his leadership or at least the alpha of the team.

Randle is not an injury-prone player, so it's just right that they gave him a chance to earn a good contract so he could play better. In fact, his numbers are already good enough to justify the contract he received, so there's no debate on that. The only problem is our fear that he will be injured again and all the money they invested in him will be wasted since they could not utilize him. However, I know they are smart enough to understand what they are doing. They know better than us, so they gave a good contract to a player they believe in and his capability.

I didn't expect Greece to win against Australia. But I did expect Canada to win against Spain although not that close.
Canada was expected to win against Spain. The Spain roster was full of bunch of oldies and they've got lesser better players on the pool.
And with their lost against Canada, they were sent back to their country.

Paris Olympics is getting more fun in the men's basketball section. USA will be a tough opponent but I can see some teams getting better as they play.
USA is the crowd favorite. And they're the most expected to get the gold medal for this year's Olympics.

I agree that he played really well before he was injured and he will probably come back stronger. The problem is, that videos that are spread all over social media are his mistakes, and most who will believe it are those who don't really watch basketball. He has an attitude and that is not a problem, a basketball player must have confidence to be a better player. I can say it's just his competitive nature.
But he must also accept that the NYK's new leader now is Brunson and it's filled with Villanova players. Adjusting is the hard part in a team but he ain't a guard so I guess it should not be that hard for them. He and OG will do a great job at their position especially if they need rebounds and defense in the painted area.

However, I know they are smart enough to understand what they are doing. They know better than us, so they gave a good contract to a player they believe in and his capability.

Now discussions float up regarding on new contract eligibility what Randle can get and now Knicks is thinking about this matter since maybe as you said they are careful giving huge contract to him since they are afraid that they might just waste their money he get injured again. There's article about this here will share the link https://nypost.com/2024/08/02/sports/knicks-julius-randle-on-the-clock-for-tricky-contract-decision/

And if Randle maybe could give a good assurance to his team that he can give help his team next season provably next will erase their doubt and agree to that current extension what Randle is eligible to get.

Embiid is absolutely embarrassing himself in the Olympics. Today he taunted the crowd and then airballed a shot. This after showing an incredible lack of effort so far. Paul George has got to be watching this and getting a littler nervous about whether or not he made the right decision in the offseason for next year.
