Legendary one day?

There is not actually a waiting list to become a legendary member, you will become a legendary member when you have the random required amount of activity that is based on your UID and a secret hash.

Theymos has said that only two people have access to the code that contains the secret hash, and that he will never give it up himself. My best guess would be that either BadBear or grue is the other person who has access to the code with the secret hash, so in theory one of them could tell you when you will become legendary, however I would not personally hold my breath waiting for either of them to do so.

Pretty sure he meant it to join in on the "fun" speculation, not seriously.

Under the assumption that each activity point has the same probability to give you the rank legendary, that there are 256 such values from 775 and 1035 and that it was predetermined and as such grows linear.

The chance for you to reach legendary on the next activity increase are:

Interesting thanks for sharing.  I figure I will be one of the unlucky ones.   At first I was always checking day of change if I made it after posting that day.... but at some point I realized if I don't expect it each week it's much easier then wondering thinking each week will be the one.

Maybe I can one day be highest level hero that is not legendary... that is like captain of the B team not bad .   But one day it will happen... one day hopefully.

The random generator hates your seed was not that good when you made the account.
Had mine set around 800
That said there is not that many periods left till you hit the cap so at least their is a silver lining.

I have never seen this said or quoted on the forum. It does echo theymos' words "random and different for every member". So, the activity threshold is actually predetermined by a formula. Can any one confirm this?

I am one of the luckier ones. I forgot when I turned legendary, low to mid 800s I believe. It's not really important, just nice to have but no different after you got it.

Edit: Come to think about it, this is extremely important for account sellers.

Nah, that'd significantly complicate things. Currently this randomness is done with a single SQL query, which is very convenient.

Previously, I thought it was a lottery of some sort. A lucky draw of all hero members with a set quota every 2 weeks. This system is fairer than I thought.

You are right about that one. The rank is "Legendary"; there's no "member" in it. Staff legendary does not make much sense but it does come close. Legendary staff looks much better. However, I do not think that just any staff member should have it just because of their activity count either.

All you need to do is become a global moderator and you will be able to change your title to whatever you wish, including "legendary staff member" if that is what you wanted. You seem to be pretty active in handling newbie reports (at least in the sections that I frequent), so I would not be surprised to see you as a global mod several months in the future. Although moderation changes with the new forum may complicate this somewhat.
