It would just move underground, though I think it would be very hard to have a global ban on Bitcoin at its current level.
why should act underground? not a lot of other things that are banned, such as drugs and marijuana, but they do not worry and keep many uses, I think bitcoin even better than it was, and remains safe even banned.

Nobody can ban BTC ever in thousand years. Wink

Because BTC is an anonymous, P2P network and by banning government cannot stop us from doing anonymous transactions using TOR and VPNs.

So obviously this topic is meaningless.

The price of BTC would go down just to raise up again. It all depends if we could still use it legally or not. If some sites popped up and allowed us to buy stuff they would still be used legal or not.
Torrents are illegal in many places and is that stopping them?

I think it will happen a bit as with illegal downloads. They have been illegal for quite some time but everybody uses them.

There is no real basis to ban it, so it should go on.

For real it will be a major set back to the people who have invested there dollars in the trading. I am sure than millions of persons today are doing the bitcoin trade and therefore when the whole thing is shutdown, then it will be a bigger problem than expected. I am however optimistic that where the bitcoin has reached in terms of the economy, it is not likely to be shut down. I even think it will grow more and more.

Nothing HUGE would happen to the bitcoin community. The only problem is that everybody who uses bitcoins is going to be labeled as criminals... Kind of similar to what the general public perceives bitcoiners as. Weird, isn't it?

In many countries, Bitcoin is still illegal, so to them it would only allow more countries to feel the same connection Wink

The only problem is that everybody who uses bitcoins is going to be labeled as criminals...

They are the criminals, they are complicits in money counterfeiting schemes by using fiat.

They commit crimes against humanity and the enviroment by subsidizing big corporations and wreckless fiat ponzi schemes of the banks.

We are only trying to clean up their messes, so they should rethink their lives.

If everyone agrees to ban BTC it would impact BTC use but it's very difficult to see that happening. BTC itself can't be banned but if countries announce it illegal to be used then it would limit adoption and new incoming users.

What do you guys think it would happen if all the governments in the world declared bitcoin to be illegal?
How do you think the community would react? What could be the possible solutions?

* However unlikely and practically impossible that scenario is I will answer anyway - Nothing would happen that doesn't now just a move from centralized to decentralized. Not sure what would happen to the forum especially the trading and exchange! Guess it would be closed.

* We may lose a few community members a long the way but it would not be a big deal because we probaby would have lost them anyway. The rest would get smarter.

* The solution would be to continue as is but taking better precautions than we already do. Bitcoiners are not stupid (well the majority aren't) Also there are decentralized exchanges with smart contracts in the alt world that can be used for btc as the main exchange.

Saying that imo there will be no ban on bitcoin as they will see it is near impossible to enforce with decentralized exchanges popping up for trading coins and goods. In my mind they could only regulate and ban centralized exchanges and services.
I would probably hold the ones I already own and when it's comes to a point where Bitcoin is so much worth, that I don't have to work for the rest of my life, I would move to a country where it hasn't been made illegal and sell my bitcoins. At least some part of it and I would just live in that country.

I think it is impossible for them to ban the bitcoin however if it's gonna happen all the bitcoin users with money on it will loose everything and it so injustice we earn with legal way, we do no crime we don't sell drugs everything transaction we make here is almost legal we do it for living. So its so unfair to ban bitcoin. It help us is so many ways try to catch other people who launder money not people like us with minimal earnings. Tongue

Bitcoin can never get banned, and if it gets banned then people will use it more, I am from India, and porn is banned in India, but still people find new ways to watch it.

So...all governments come together on the agreement to ban Bitcoin?

Bitcoin, the great world unifier. Obama holding hands with Putin and Assad singing in harmony.

When you put it like that the idea kind of seems silly. lol

Not sure why lol. Most nations agree that bad things are bad, and join forces to fight them.
You don't really think that Obama is going to keep Bitcoin legal, or legalize child porn, just to spite Putin?

I think its impossible to happen but in my opinion if it will happen in the future maybe my solution is to show them a proof that bitcoin is not a scam.. just many people online are scammer but bitcoin is not scam many stores online are accepting bitcoin and some countries are accepting bitcoin as payment just like brazil..

in my country bitcoin hasn't banned but also not officially recognized and also using bitcoin is not violated the law but if bitcoin banned i think people will still using bitcoin because banned don't mean people will stop using it especially for those who can get benefit from bitcoin i think they won't stop using bitcoin

If all the government in the world declared bitcoin including illegal currency or another.
The community will ban bitcoin too only some people with a more knowledge about bitcoin can separate this. and think again to ban bitcoin from his life.

If it were declared illegal by all major governments, then it would die. I don't think this will happen since some governments are embracing it and the US seems to just want to regulate it some. In fact the US government auctioned off the seized silk road bitcoins and I don't think they would declare something illegal that they auctioned off to the public.

No government can ever ban Bitcoin, it will keep rising, the more you try to ban it the worse it will get for the governments trying to attack it: look at Russia. Rubble volume on BTC is blowing up.
